Can Datebk5 run off the MS? Either by using Powerun or MS Launcher?

It works using zlauncher... but if you only have powerun or ms launcher then that doesn't help much.

You can run Datebk5 off the MS, though if it is frequently used, you would often need to wait for the program to be copied to RAM and then executed (via PowerRun or from /Palm/Program/Launcher). This is due to the fact that Datebk5 is quite a large program (400kb+ in size)

A better solution is to move this into Flash.

As yorrick says: You can simply install it to Memory Stick and it will run. However, everytime I wanted to check for an appointment time, I had to wait quite a while for it to start up. It got to be quite a problem. I moved it to RAM, and it starts instantly now.

When I try to move it it always says that Datebk5 is handling alarms, if you move it to the MS the alarms will not go off. Is this true then, seeing as many of have done it.

That's a great question and to add, can I just move the app not the database so the alarms would go off properly

I had db5 on my ms but the alarms wouldn't work. I have meg alauncher on my 665. Is there a way to have db5 on the ms
and have the alarms work?

The alarms are copied to the datebook, so they should work IF you set the alarms to be handled by the default datebook. If you have db5 handling the alarms and it is residing on MS, then I'd doubt it would work since the program could get very confused where db5 is located!

In the end, keep db5 in flash or in ram, but not in MS if you want to exercise the full functionality of db5. Otherwise, set the default alarm handler to the native datebook.

If, perhaps, you put DB5 onto the MS using MSMount or PiDirect(?) (because the clie thinks it's accessing internal RAM), the alarms might work. Not a guarantee, just a thought.

But I subscribe to the general consensus, which seems to be to keep it in RAM or ROM where access is instantaneous. I just can't imagine waiting even 5 seconds everytime I open my datebook. I'd end up waste an hour a day.

This sounds right to me. I always keep it in RAM or ROM, never on the MS.

I would suggest to the original poster of this discussion to move something else into MS instead of db5.
If db5 (or whatever datebook app) is more important than another program (say, a game), then db5 should stay in RAM/Flash and the other app bumped into MS. :)
