Wow, is the 3-month parts and labor warranty the original warranty from Sony? Back when they were in the market? Seems so little time... Is the warranty online activated when the form is filled? Do you need the receipt with the date of purchase on it?

I'm at the verge of purchasing one from BestOptionDirect and I'm trying to find all the information I can...

Thanks a lot guys!

The original warranty was 3 months, but was extended to 12 months if/when you filled out the online registration. As far as I know, Sony is honoring those extended warranties as well as the 3 month warranty on newly purchased UX50's. What I do not know is if Sony is still extending the 3 month warranty on new UX50's now that they are no longer in the Clie market. You should check with Sony directly on this (get it in writing) unless someone else knows the answer to this for sure. Either way, having your receipt with the date of purchase is always a good idea.

Sony requires a copy of your receipt for proof of the warranty period.

If you are buying a refurbished model, you get only 3 months (unless you buy from some vendors who offer extended warranties--for a fee of course.)

Sony is continuing to register "new" Clie's on their website, though having a copy of the receipt is always a good idea. :-) The 12 month warranty is a good incentive for registering as well. And, as an aside, you may still be able to find Sony-sanctioned extended warranties up to a total of 3 years parts+labor, including one LCD replacement, from some vendors. The corresponding one for the TH55 and other Clies costing from $301-500 is the PEGA-2YSP2, retail $90. The one for the UX-50 and other Clies costing from $501-800 would be the PEGA-2YSP3, retail $110. There are other extended warranties out there as well. Sony's are for new products only, not refurbished. However, as an alternative example affording additional cost savings, Overstock.com sells an inexpensive extended warranty for their refurbished TH55's and UX-50's. FYI....

If you buy a device, even in a sealed new box, from a 3rd party on ebay or the forums without a retail receipt you get NO warranty. I am living with a loud display, but the device has too many other good features to let it go.
