Same question of Why Fi? and strider_mt2k (june 2004):
"Is it possible to send audio wirelessly from the mic on the clie, over a wireless network, to a PC? So you can monitor another room, kinda like SpyStillCam by CliePet, but instead of pictures, it sends audio. The upload speeds I've been getting with SMBmate tells me that an audio stream shoud be no problem. so can it be done?"

I think this would be even cooler and more useful than SpyStillCam. An application where you could pick video, audio, or both together would be ideal!
However, I haven't seen a SINGLE program that successfully uses the built-in mic except VoiceRec and MovieRec. If anyone knows of one, please let us know.

Sure, like a lot of things with the CLIE it *can* be done.
We only need people (ie. developers) with the interest to create such a thing.
There will be some small audio latency, but the WiFi bandwidth is more than capable of handling it.
IMHO: an inexpensive 'baby monitor' radio does the same thing ;->

Some of the WAV recording/editing apps can be made to work with the built-in mic.
The UX and TH are very particular to the recording format (try 44100 Hz, 16 bit recording settings)
Another possible problem is the mic sensitivity (lo/high) that is a non-standard API. Usually if you run VoiceRec first and pick the right sensitivity it will stick for the next app as well.

So if I select the low sensitivity in VoiceRec it will stay like that with MovieRecorder?

Try it and see.
I was taking about apps that don't set the "mic sensitivity" value (ie. apps not written by Sony or with CLIE specific code)
Sony apps know about the CLIE proprietary "mic sensitivity". I don't know if MovieRecorder sets the sensitivity or not.

In Wave Edit Pro, no matter what settings I choose, it says "Your system hardware doesn't seem to support this sample rate! Please select another one."
Same thing in Personal Audio Recorder, I get "Error creating the stream. Error code: 0801"
(It does say it's compatible with "Any Palm® OS 5.0 and higher with Extended Sound Manager such as Palm® Tungsten series, Zire®72, SonyClie® with PalmOS® 5.2.1" in the .pdf manual, but the website says only the Treo600)
Are there any others?
