What kind of interent connection do you have now for your desktop PC?
Examples are: DSL. Dial-up, cable modem, etc.
Who is your ISP and what PC operating system are you using?
The info you supply will help me and others give you recommendations.

You sound like you are in the same place I was. I was using Earthlink. I found that reading through all the wireless info on this forum and a few wonderful folks who helped (mainly Larry) that I could get on the net at the local hotspot (a coffee house).
However I still can not get my email....
I am not finished yet. I will keep trying but earthlink is not at all helpful saying they do not support sony...so if you get on with another ISP let me know I would change in a flash.

This is copied from another thread. Intenet Explorer is not an ISP, it's a web browser. I am also not familar with satellite hookups.
How I surf with my clie using adhoc, a wifi laptop, and AOL dialup
First off many thanks to all the users of this forums for their help with this subject. And second I would like to say I am in no way an expert in networks or configuring computers!! This method was found through trial and error and lots of long frustrating nights.
I finally got this to work with my AOL dialup, a Sony laptop with built in wifi, and my clie.
You will need a copy of PPPshar lite http://www.pppindia.com/intl/pppshar. download, install and follow the instructions to setup your ip address.
Clie Settings:
IP: 192.168.0.3
Sub:255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.2
DNS: 192.161.0.2
I found that if I don't enter a dns I was unable to connect to anything.
Laptop Settings:
Internet Sharing was enabled on the wifi adapter.
You can find your ip settings for your computer using the run command in the start bar of xp by typing in cmd /k ipconfig
wifi card;
IP: 192.168.0.2
Sub: 255.255.255.0
Make sure that in your wifi network settings under TCP/IP you select properties and assign the ip and sub. listed above this sentence. Now you need to click advanced on the wifi adapter screen, and press the settings button at the bottom right corner and select web server from the list, then press edit and enter your gate way IP listed under the PPP adapter with the cmd /k ipconfig command.
I use Pocket Link II, so this may vary depending on what you use. Under options/network select UseProxy and enter in 192.168.0.2 and use port 81.
If you have done all of this correctly and enabled PPPshar Lite you should be able to browse the internet with your Clie!!

Hi and thanks, although this is great info, I don't have a laptop and I did wonder if i needed to have one but he mentioned in the What you need section and he mentions lap top, I wish I had one but, oh well. If you find anything else out it is appreciated and hopefully I wont need a lap top. :) thanks Druss

the laptop can be replaced with a desktop ;) i just use my laptop because its quicker... All you need is a computer with wifi, dialup or broadband.. and pppshar lite and your good to go. So you can replace laptop, with desktop. download that file and follow the steps.

But......
can you do away with not having any computer? What I mean is can you have a broadband line and a router connected directly to the broadband socket (not through any PC) and go online with Clie and W/card?
I was told by one local PC store that this was possible; another said it was not with the clie, but that you could go wireless this way with a laptop! If yes with the laptop then why not with the Clie?
Cheers for any info or pointers on this answer.

well you need a computer to first setup the router, after that you can just use your clie and router for access
