I need some help as I am constantly running dry on the batteries and loose the data.

On Friday I fully charged my new NX-70V (100%). On Sunday wanted to use it and the batteries were completely dry. I had to re-sync it as all the data was gone too. I have not used it in-between.
I suspect that some application ‘wakes-up’ the Clie meanwhile and dries the battery. I use the leather casing that I noticed touches the screen when I fold it

Does anybody experience the same problem?

Sorry, but I haven't had this problem.

Do you engage the "Hold" button when you're not using it? I do this since I keep my NX in my pocket to avoid inadvertently hitting the camera or power button and turning it on.

It is strange that your battery would die in such a short amount of time without use. Even if you accidentally pressed a button, it'll auto shut off in 3 minutes. Do you carry it in clamshell or tablet mode?

I do engage 'Hold'

My suspicion is that some application ‘wakes up’ the Clie and because the leather casing is pressing on the screen it does not allow to ‘Auto off’
The thing is I use all standard Clie applications only.

Do you have any alarms set? How long will the battery last after it was just charged and you are using it(not letting it sit)?

It is entirely possible that the battery went bad. You could back up your Clie, do a hard reset. Do not reload your apps and just let it sit for a day or so and see if the battery runs down after a full charge. It can lose 3% a day of full charge just sitting. Remove any CF cards or memory sticks too!

He does bring up an interesting question, if the battery goes dead, or, you change the battery, (as you can do with the NZ, and soon will be able to do with the NX) is all the memory wiped out?

If you change the battery, yes you will lose your memory. Now one possibility is if you attach power to the HotSync connector while changing the battery, you might lose the contents in RAM. I have not tried this to confirm that'll work. I have done it with other devices, even including changing my car battery. All I had to do was place a plug into the cigarette ligher socket hooked to a small battery charger.

Sony does sell an external battery pack that can be plugged in to HotSync connector for the NX and maybe others.

Hmmm. I hope not all of these Clies last a short while on a charge! I am looking forward to improved batt. over my PPC (which Thaddeus Computing (www.usedhandhelds.com)). They are buying my perfect condition Toshiba E740 for $300. I am pretty impressed.

My brother and I have had our NX's going strong now for 4 months! This can happen to any PDA, no matter who makes it. In fact the battery I had in an HP PPC went bad on me in no time. Since the unit was recalled via a class action suit, it was just as well. Then we entered the World of Palm and haven't looked back since.

BTW, my NR70 is 10 months old now and the battery is fine. The reason I know the number of months was that yesterday I got a  flyer from Circuit City trying to sell me an extended warranty:).

Hmmm. Thanx for the feedback.

I am so nervous-The day is almost here to part with all of my money and get the NX. I just need to sell my Keyboard for my Toshiba.

Check to make sure Clie has Auto-off enabled. Even if an alarm goes off, it'll turn the screen off.

There's no reason your clie should die on you in a day. Something is really wrong.

As for short battery life, thus is the life of a faster processor. My Clie lasts me a little less than 2 days before it goes below 10%. This is after full days of meetings and such when I have it on and working on it. Pretty crappy but I love my NX.

You might also check to see that the fit of your leather case is not pressing on anything to keep you NX in the "ON" state, because if it is, the screen itself is a big draw of power.

Cheers

All things considered, battery life is pretty good. Larger batteries create more bulk and weight. Thus there are trade offs, balance size to weight ratio. The question then becomes how big and heavy do you want the clie?

Well, Sony now produces a brick, how about a concrete block?

Try doing a complete drain then charging it for 10 or more hours. I have heard this makes NZ-90 batteries stronger.

PS make sure u have a backup first!!
I know u are talking NX but its worth a try!:D

The NZ90 is using some modified technology and is not the same battery.
