It seems everyone is calling for Hi-Res+ in a Sony device. How is Sony going to know we want this so bad unless we tell them? I'm sure they have an idea, but just to make sure-- it's time to tell them.

I've written up a sample petition that I want people to read over and approve. I'll write up a little script so people can choose the device they currently own/don't own, how long and maybe some other things and the petition script will modify itself. Then we can collect them and send them off (mail or email, user's choice) to Sony.

Here's the script in the original, sparse draft. It's not the best writting in the world, but it hits the main points. Please feel free to submit any changes/modifications/additions as you see fit...

Good/bad idea?

I think ill go for the Ique because of this,
I begged Garmin for a BT implementation for the European version of the Ique 3600, they would consider it they said. But i dont count on it, it involves licenses and lots of additional testing and designing. Its too late, but oh well a Ique 3600 Plus a 128mb SD/BT combo card does the trick too.
These combo cards will be launched soon by Sandisk if i am not mistaken.

Well the TG50 isn't even out in the US yet. And meanwhile we're not sure this is THE update to the T-series but rather an offshoot. So maybe it's a good idea, but just not yet.

okay, so we wait to see if the TG50 comes to the States or if some offshoot comes... and, maybe you're right, the American TG50 might not be designed to replace the T665...

Yeah, wait and see. I noticed there are only a handful of Clie models now available on SonyStyle USA. Nothing bearing a "T" designation. Guess that's coming up soon. TG50 most likely, but maybe a T665 successor with VG will follow. That seems like a logical progression--I doubt they want to alienate their customers who prefer a non-thumb board option on an OS 5 machine.

And even if for some reason they would just expect clunky-fingered folks to adapt to thumb-boards...well I bet they're probably dying to show off yet another 320x480 color screen. Surely they know that screen is the envy even of PocketPC users. Being "on the fence" as I am, I follow Pocket PC forums, too, and see the NX and NZ screens mentioned all the time when PPC users start ranting why can't Pocket PC's have higher resolutions. And have you ever known Sony to turn down a chance to show off? Really--2 Megapixel camera in a PDA! :D Man, if I were at Sony I'd be dying to throw another 320x480 screen on the market. Especially now with more apps coming out to do it justice.

Heh heh...but I'm no expert, so hang onto that petition just in case! :D

show off is right-- that's why i'm hanging on to my hope they are not introducing a Hi-Res+ T-series now so they can show-up the iQue a few days before it launches. they have the fanbase and they have done it before.

fairly good letter, but I don't think that there are millions of clie users that want to upgrade :)

Sony will believe what we tell them... maybe...

Hey Guys the wait is over, Sony just put on Sony Stile the PG-50 in the US, it's ready for sale this week!!, This is very strange for Sony...maybe there's another Clie coming out soon, like everybody's talking about, hopefully a new version of the T-Series. Does anyone have an idea why Sony made this radical move so fast?

No Clue why. But they did remove the other older models fairly recently so I figured they were going to fill the gap with the TG50 soon. But wow, that was fast! :D

I hope to see it at a local retailer soon. I just can't make up my mind about this device so far. A thumbboard or a virtual stylus-input keyboard (either QWERTY or FITALY) are my only options as I can't and won't use graffiti, being a PocketPC person at the moment. The TG-50 thumb board is probably going to be one of the nicer ones out there on such a tiny form factor. But on the other hand, being a PocketPC user, I am kind of spoiled by a bit more screen real estate than the TG-50 offers. I like the dimensions of the NX and NZ screens. Sweet!

Oh and I don't think I am going to like built-in flip covers. The one on the SJ33 that I tried recently got on my nerves a wee bit. I currently have a leather slipper case on my PDA that I flip all the way flat against the back of the PDA.

It's weird, when I first got wind of this device I thought oh boy, that is THE ONE for me. But as time goes by I grow to understand more why others here clamored for a device like Quiller describes in his petition. Now I'm stuck in wait-and-see mode.

my main complaint is the flip-cover because it can't be turned to the back of the device. there is an obvious need for it though, the thumboard would constantly be pressed and wasting the battery if it was in your pocket unprotected.

it wasn't *that* radical of a move by Sony. the predictions were late March, early April for a stateside release. right now, the TG50 is only on pre-order, giving them at the least a week and at the most three weeks-- it seems they are still on their original schedule.

i think i'll like the thumboard, but i'm tempted to wait it out with my T665 until a T-series with true VG comes around...

Yeah, I have a pretty decent PDA to tide me over while I wait. I also don't have the money yet...so I more or less HAVE to wait. My hubby tells me this is going to be an exciting spring for handhelds of all kinds and patience should pay off. I'm hoping it will be a smorgasbord.

Hey, if you want, feel free to attach my mock up I did for the clieplanet contest at the beginning of the year...

BTW, I only won second place (though I got a LOT of e-mails saying I was robbed), so I won a Piel Frama T665 case...

antboy-- you should revamp that model to a more "realistic" model. take out the CF slot, add bluetooth or wifi and take out the little curve at the bottom of the device... otherwise, it is a very, very good representation of the device we all know and want.

I may, though finding the time to revamp the model would be difficult over the next couple of weeks. I know the CF slot is unrealistic, but hey, it WAS for a dream Clie contest originally :)

If I do find the time, I'll definitely post at least an image.

keep the CF slot, even if it is proprietary. I prefer the ability to choose my WiFi standard at least. Most importantly though. Integrate bluetooth. Keep it less than .5" thick and you have my dream machine. I need no camera or keyboard SONY. I NEED THIS!

the CF slot will never happen in a T-series because of the width and weight it will add. i want the device under .5" depth but, more importantly, under 6oz.
