I saw lots of pictures for TG50 and the virtual graffiti appears on the entire screen. I just wonder if it would be inconvenient for people (graffiti users) who need to open VG, write something, close VG... coz I personally may not like going to another VG screen to type something and return to my main screen.

I may be wrong, but I have not seen pictures that VG screen appears on 'part' of the screen instead of the entire screen.

Thanks for the comments!

First of all, Virtual Graffiti is what the NR, NX and NZ series have: a virtual graffiti similar to the real graffiti areas that the other Clie's have.

The TG50 has a 'popup' graffiti area, much like the popup keyboard that every Clie has. It can be turned on and of as you prefer.

And please, register. :)

Virtual or Popup Graffiti--why use either if you have a keyboard (unless the keyboard is a POS like on my NR70).

unless the keyboard is a POS like on my NR70
have faith. Sony has had both the NX and NZ series to improve upon the keyboard. they did pretty well with the NZ, and the buttons on the TG50 look quite raised. my first impression was very positive, but my thought of the thumboard now is through the roof. i think we'll all be pleasantly surprised when we hold the TG50 for the first time.

as for why VG over an effective thumboard? simply put: real estate. with an already small screen, adding half again the screen space is a big jump. Sony finally realized that VG doesn't lose any of the effectiveness of the traditional silkscreen area and at the same time adds quite a bit of customization.

the VG in NR, NX, or NZ series only appears in a very small portion on the bottom of the entire screen.

but from what I saw from TG50 pictures, the VG appears on the entire screen, I just wonder if the VG for TG60 can appear on a portion of the entire screen or not.

thanks!

eecow-- there is no VG on the TG50, it's just a pop-up graffiti area. if you look at the NX/NZ series, the silkscreen (Graffiti) area is skinnable and, by default, has a small 15px or so bar on the bottom of the screen. the TG50, however, doesn't have true Virtual Graffiti.

perhaps we should start referring to the NX/NZ style as Hi-Res+ and any sort of pop-up graffiti area Virtual Graffiti, that would clear up some confusions.

thanks quiller for clearing things up :)

so do you know if the pop-up graffiti can appear in a small portion of the screen instead of the entire screen

say, if a graffiti user would like to store some info in the contacts, he/she has to
1. go to contacts
2. pop-up graffiti
3. type something
4. close the pop-up graffiti to return to contacts
it would be better to do everything on one screen instead of going back and forth :)

of course, using a keyboard is another choice, but graffiti users may prefer pop-up graffiti...

thanks for your comments!

the photos of it in use show it to be about the same size as the pop-up keyboard on the T-series: a little less than half of the screen. with OS5 giving even more support to a Hi-Res screen, this gives you about four or five lines visible above the VG area.

oh really?
do you have the links to those pictures?
coz the pictures in sony japan website only shows the pop-up graffiti appearing on the entire screen...

thanks!

this is straight from the Sony Hong Kong site:

http://www.sonystyle.com.hk:28611/clie/tg50/popup/image/hard06_pic2.gif

it shows four lines visible above the (extremely boring) Graffiti area.

The pop-up Garffiti area works just like the pop-up keyboard on your current Clie. It takes over your entire screen. The bottom half is the Graffiti area, the top is three lines where the text you are writting appears.

No, it isn't as efficient as regular Graffiti... but regular Graffiti isn't as efficient as using the keyboard built into the TG50.

If you are absolutely opposed to using the keyboard and intend to use this pop-up Graffiti area all the time, don't buy a TG50. It isn't right for you.

Here is another page from HK site that displays available writing methods for TG-50. Using "software keyboard" on any Clie with 320x320 screen provides a good example of TG-50 screen real estate.

The keyboard on my TG-50 is just fine. I'd gladly give up graffiti for good to use it. The buttons are sold and seperate as opposed to the "chinsy" keyboard on the NX70, etc. that seemed to be almost an afterthought. The keys are also transparent and light up amber when a keyboard buttom is pressed (if anyone is interested). numbers are kinda a pain in the *** so far as you have to hold the "black" key with one hand and hit the top row keys (QWERTYUIOP) as 1-0.

so, essentially, we have yet to hear someone get the TG50 and not like it... a few complaints that there is no "insert name here" button or another, but in terms of actually typing, it seems fine.

now we just wait for the Hi-Res+ TG75 and then compare the two...

what is TG75?
I just did a quick search and I cannot find any info for TG75...

So has anyone tried Graffiti Anywhere or Jot or something similar on one of these TGs?
That would overcome your popup Graffiti problems?
