I´d like to be able to turn off the LED light at will.
Is there a hack for that, or any other way?
Tried a search; nothing came up...

Mine only comes on while it is charging in the cradle.

Does yours operate continuously?

Yes, it´s on all the time.
I guess you have a 675C, Euro-model, like mine.
So maybe there´s something wrong with mine...?

I have a US t665c and mine lights green when the clie is turned on and shuts off when i turn the clie off. The only other time it lights up is when i put it in the charger which makes it light up orange until it is done charging, then it turns off.

If not a solution, then maybe a suggestion? :-)

you cold always open up your clie and clip the wires supplying power to the LED

Yes, it does.

I wonder why there´s a difference within the same Clié model.
Is yours a 665, or a 675 -
and how old is it?

Mine is a 675C - less than a month old, bought in the UK.

It goes off when battery is fully loaded in the cradle; a nice touch
when you´re used to Palm V.
But it comes on again when you start it, and keeps on shining
throughout any operation, only way to shut down LED is to
push the off button, shutting down the whole thing.

It only bothers me when reading late at night, and then of course I
think about battery life, but with Energy Dimmer my battery works longer
than I expected ( also got a SJ30, which BTW don´t have LED on,
except when in cradle; works just like yours, which is the way I´d prefer..:-)

The T615 (or 625) has a LED that only comes on durring an alarm and while charging.

The T665 (675) has a LED that stays on while the unit is powered on. When the unit is charging it turns another color. This is because of the MP3 player built in. The LED stays on when the unit is on so that if you are using the Hold switch and the screen is off, you can still tell that the power is on.

The T615 doesn't do this because it doesn't have a hold switch. There is no way to turn the screen off without turning the unit off.

Have you looked in "Preferences" to see if there is a way to turn the LED off?

OK, that makes a lot of sense..

But how come some 665/675 owners says their LED is only on
when the PDA is in the cradle ( like the SJ30 ) ?

Still puzzled..

The only person I saw that said that the LED only comes on in the cradle was nsingleton, and he never said what type of unit he has. I'm guessing he must have a T615/625.

You´re probably right - sort of settles it, right?
Since the LED doesn´t seem to draw much power anyway,
especially with Energy Dimmer active;
- I might just put a little piece of tape over it...,
just enough to ease my eyes, I always was oversensitive for
peripheral lights...:-)
- rather than clip the leads inside (!).

Thanks for clearing it up.

It´s a bit of waste for me, I don´t use my AudioPlayer, never
intended to, I´ve had an iPod for a long time now, but maybe I should
put some of my favorite songs in the 675 so I could feel I was "using" the
LED for its purpose...:-)

Haha... It will only count if you use the hold switch while listening to an mp3! ;-)

How about this... instead of turning your unit off, just put it on hold. That way your T675 will be "instant on". Oh wait... looks like PalmOS has already accomplished this. :D
