Hello everyone, this is my first post at 1SRC. I have learned a lot here so far, but I have yet to find anything about modifications to the NX70 or NX60 batteries.

Has anyone modified the battery compartment and/or battery so that one could easily swap in a new battery while on the go? Here are some of my thoughts on how this could possibly work:

1. move and mount the connector to the back of compartment so that when the battery is inserted it is simply pushed into the connector. This assumes that the battery will fit when turned around 180 degrees. This may be tough - I have heard that it is already a very snug fit in the compartment.

2. modify the compartment door so it no longer needs a screw to hold it on. Perhaps a hing of some sort (perhaps with fabric tape) could be made and a magnetic connection be placed where the screw connection was previously.

3. then there is the issue of charging. I assume that one could charge the battery only while it is in the PDA. At what rate does a battery discharge on its own from no usage?

Or perhaps someone knows of a manufacturer that makes higher capacity batterys of the same size as the stock battery for the NX70/60, but this seems like an impossible task without increasing the physical size of the battery.

I would like to hear from anyone who has had similar thoughts, researched the matter, and/or has attempted to do what I have outlined.

Thanks and I'm glad to become part of the community.

You're probably better off just getting something which plugs into the bottom and allows your to use 9V or AA batteries. My brother paid about $15 for a charger for his Clie which will charge it from the wall, from the cigarette lighter, or from a 9V.

Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64368&item=5716047576&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) a spot where you can get the 9V adaptor.

Edit: Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48668&item=5715981032&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW) another one for cheaper.

Well, if you unplug the battery for a certain period of time, really short, all your data will be lost, so no way to still use your PDA if you lose everything you had there and have to sync again to get it back.

May be will work, and i think they could make a battery the same size and higher capacity, but i dont know of any already made.

The best idea, as phoenix said, is charging your clie with an external charger.

thanks for your thoughts guys. I realized the NX70V gets a much better battery life during audio playback that what Sony tells us. This is probably because I'm using Aeroplayer and Pocket Tunes instead of Audio Player.

FYI, the standard OEM battery is 1000mAh - - there are some aftermarket ones that are 1100mAh. I know, it doesn't seem like much, but 10% is still an improvement. One of the aftermarket manufacturers (http://www.batterybiz.com) - has discontinued offering an NX60 battery, but I was still able to find one from someone else (can't remember offhand who, and the info is at home) just a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you need the name and I'll look it up for you.
