It is possible -- I think. I installed it to internal memory a long time ago by mounting the internal media and transferring the file, then used ZL to get it to main memory. I think that's how I did it anyway.

Hi, do you have NetFront 3.1 installed on your memory stick pro? If yes, can you give me some instructions on how to transfer it to MS. I am not familiar with the use of alias extension folders, so any step by step instruction is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
U don't have to use AliasExt for NF 3.1. You can just place in the Launcher folder in your IM and with ZL make a shortcut to it.

You could also copy it over to RAM with SmbMate via Wi-Fi or BT

Havent tried this exactly, but I think the easiest might be:
Hook up your UX with USB cable.
Establish a connection to your PC (you now have an F drive or something similar as your internal memory).
Copy the NetFront31.prc file to the internal memory of the UX.
Use McFile or your program of choice to copy the NetFront31.prc file to the handheld memory (RAM).
Reset unit, and you now have Net Front 3.1 (although you now have about 2 megs less of RAM ) :(
Let me know if this works

Every time I move the NetFront3.prc (this is the 3.1 patch) to the Handheld, it says there isn't enough memory, even though I have 6MB free. I try to use ExFTP to download it and it won't let me. Please help :(

i had this problem before too. quite simply i just leave netfront3.1 in handheld memory. did you move anything onto aliasExt folder? if you did you should make subfolders. go to this link (last thread of UX page)
http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64064
there should be a link that i posted. it'll tell you step by step instructions how to install.

Okay, I know I'm dense, but . . .
I've followed the step by stap directions (did it the first time and got frustrated so, myMcFile free trial expired). I even bought a McFile (yes 2.2 beta3) license to be able to do this. I've been dinkin' with it almost all danged day. What am I doing wrong?
So far, I haven't seen a clear answer to this question (like Jamerican's). Why would it say the Palm is out of memory, when it clearly has more than enough to take care of the 719K file?
Can anyone tell I'm frustrated?
NOTE: The exact error is: "Database: Out of memory. Delete old data or unneeded applications. (0x0201)

I've the same problem as yours b4. The problem is some program I've/You've install prevent netfront from overwriting. So what you need to do is overwright Netfront first then reinstall other APPS(but I don't think you want to do this all over again, right?) ^_^
in your case(no MS), try this,
1.Try the other post above to copy the netfront3.prc(or netfront31.prc) to your IM.
2.Backup everything to IM(I use McFile to backup to MS, not sure can backup to IM or not, so you'll have to figure out which program you'll use for backup). Then hotsync to backup everything to your PC----This step is neccessary, not just precaution, you'll know why later on----
***Becareful!!! I don't truse Palm's hotsync for backup since they sometime ignore some file/program during backup, so backup to IM or PC with other 3th party apps!!!***
3.Hard-Reset to erase everything in your UX50.
here comes your choices....
Plan A.
A1).Try the method from other post above to copy the netfront3.prc(or netfront31.prc) from your IM to your palm's RAM with McFile etc.(it should work this time). ;-)
A2).Restore everything from the backup you've make(I use McFile's restore from MS).If McFile's restore ask whether u want to overwrite netfront3.prc, u should click "NO"...
A3),pray....
If still doesn't work, Try......
Plan B.
B1).in your computer, locate Palm desktop/hotsync's installation folder(under C:\program Files\.... name Palm or Sonyxxx etc.) look for folder name "backup" or "archive"(I forgot the exact name) under your "user folder" inside the Palm desktop installation folder(user folder's name is same as your user name you use in Palm desktop). you'll find every program/Database you've install (and backup) in there.
B2).Copy the "netfront3.prc"(or netfront31.prc) into the "backup" AND "archive" folder, the reason for this is because one of the folder is use to store program you've uninstall/deleted. Palm keep a copy of the PRC file in one of the above folder. so copy the netfront file to both of them just to make sure.
B3).Now...Pray and start "Hotsync" to restore everything from your PC back to your UX50.(Palm desktop will restore from the backup/archive folder, so now you know why I ask you to backup to PC at the beginning) hotsync should be able to "restore " the updated netfront program with your backup from the backup/archive folder back to your palm.
NOW, reply to tell us how it goes......... hopefully by using your UX50 with netfront 3.1... ^_^
GOODLUCK!!!!!!!

Calvin,
Thank you for the reply. And, you're right, I'm not eager to dump everything just to be able to upgrade Netfront. Guess I'll suffer through the version I have. I just hate not being able to check my e-mail at aol.com (I know, I know, don't give me any grief :p ), and hate to think I'd have to pay another 20 bucks (after their extravogant pricing) for "AOL for Palm OS."

Hi Aredubjay.
I'll say it's worth the risk. to me, 3.1 feel much faster(although still not fast enought) but it actually respond to my click/tab etc.
so, when you feel you're ready, I would suggest you give it a try. 3.1 makes my UX50 much more useful at web surfing.
GoodLuck ^_^

ok could you tell me exactly whats wrong with your ux?. if im not mistaken the thread says 'installing nf3.1 without MS'. correct? if thats the case, just change MS to IM in data import on ux.
you'll need mcfile beta or filez if im not mistaken, or any other file manager other than the ux's (in-capable). data export nf3.1 to IM/or MS. to retrieve nf3.1.prc, you'll have to search as follow (using mcfile/filez/zlauncher/resco Explorer)- IM/or MS>palm>programs>msfiles. move to handheld then soft reset. it should work.
i would suggest also not to use the aliasExt for nf3.1. just too complicated. believe me nf3.1 is worth the space and time. try it out.. :)

i've come across this error before but can't remember what it was. sorry :D. all i know for sure is that its fixable. be patient. you should backup your data first. incase you don't know how. under prefs/powersave option/ctrl+R/backup/hard reset/install nf3.1/should work. if it does, it may be a sw conflict. sorry honestly i dont remember what the problem was, but i'll post again once i've figured it out.
cheers :D

Okay . . . did a backup . . . hard reset . . . went to install NF3.1. <Scratched Head -- said to self:> "Hmmmm. Now there's no McFiles." So, do you have to re-install McFiles and Zfiles before attempting to intsall NF3.1? Okay, I'll admit, I weakened and tried the install with Clie Files, and guess what -- I got the same stoopid message I've been getting from trying to install with McFiles (Memory's full). Gollygeewhillikers, it shouldn't be THIS hard.    :D

ahah...you cant use cliefiles. you have to use either filez, or mcfile. and for one reason only...it is capable of doing so. me thinks you should change the properties, to lets say archives only. or uncheck all. give that a try. im pretty sure thats probably it. :D

I'm impressed by your level of certainty. Okay, so, I'll have to do the hard reset, re-install FileZ and McFiles, install NF3.1, THEN, when I restore my back-up, is it going to overwrite NF3.1? Or, am I just gonna have to forget about restoring back-up and re-install any add-ons and start from scratch? Jiminy! I'm gonna go back to using an abacus. :D

well im not THAT sure :D.. but what i do know is apps like filez, mcfile, etc have the ability to change properties of other apps and if use wrongly can result..well disastrously (i once tried to delete a BT pref once ). which is why clie files don't have the ability because sony designed it not to.
to answer your question. no, if you restore your backup files, it wont overwrite nf 3.1. reason for hard reset was to make sure there was no software conflict. its just a means of testing. once you've installed nf3.1 after hard reset, you can do it once again along with your restored backed up files. just make sure you have enough space. mind you nf3.1 IS quite large.
