View Full Version : Can you beam a 200 mb movie to another TH55?

I was wondering if you can directly beam large movie, about 200 mb in size, to another clie, like the TH55, and it will go straight to the memory stick (because the internal RAM does not have enough space)?

Nope. You need to have at least the same amount of RAM free as the file size of the app you're beaming.

what if you compressed it? would that work? can you even beam a compressed file?

it would take so long, it wouldnt be worth it.

Doesn't matter. The rules stated in post #2 still apply. Compressed, not compressed...all that matters is if the size of the app is less that the free RAM on your Clie.

There are some apps that allow you to recieve it to the stick go to palmgear.com and search receiveit.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Here is the direct link to this nice piece of software called ReceiveIt 2.0

The beaming will eat the battery alive, considering you'll have to do it probably overnight. As we TH-55-ers know, the IR sucks on our models... So even if you figure normal IrDA speeds of 115.2Kbps.. let's see that would be:

115.2/8 = 14.4 KBps (ha! 14.4 modem speed!)
200MB = 200,000KB
200,000/14.4 = 13889 sec. (rounded)
13889/60 = 231.5 mins
231.5/60 = ~4 hours of transfer...

And that's IF you don't get the "connection lost" or "connection interrupted" messages... ...ouch.

I have an idea...its called a 'card reader'..you know it makes sense!!

if you have th55 or some other clie where is data import you don't even need card reader !

just use data import and computer and then it is done !

Why do you have to divide it by 8?

1 byte = 8 bits

If you do it overnight you would put it on the charger, Duh!!!!

Assuming you both had sync cables. It would be hard to get the IR ports of two PDAs side-by-side if they were both in cradles.

I must say that this is one of the crazier ideas I have seen on these boards...

Well, most companies sell cables and some models only come with cables so I don't see how it would be hard to align the IR pots.

well 115kBps. But a modem has got 14.4kBps. And a faster one 56kBps. Byte. You musnt divide it.

200000kb / 115kB/s = ~ 28 Mins

In the first post he said the app was 200MB, not 200kb.

TRUST ME, beaming a 200MB file would take Forever!

I remember I beamed a 1MB app once long ago before I had any clue how long it would take. 10 minutes later it was finished. ;)

what about sending it via bluetooth wouldnt that be faster

zackepceo

Yeah, about 7 times faster and only if they both had TH-55/E clies.

This guy has to be joking. Why are people even considering the possibility? Even if you had a 128mb RAM Zodiac, you wouldn't be able to unless you split it up into parts (and with some mystery program?)

Plus, if you were sending larger files between 2 cliés then you would use Disk Manager (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=FEC9619A-CF18-AC2E-791F01643A07E81B&PartnerREF=&prodID=53334) so you could copy a large file from your memory stick to a RAMdisk, then to the other person's MS.
