How many times has your NX fallen to the harsh floor? Mine fell from a height of less than 2 feet and landed flat. No problems whatsoever :) How about you guys?

I voted, but this has been done a couple times before. Mine fell out of my jacket onto the hard concrete floor. It scraped it a little around the camera button, this happened in the first week and that was back in November and it's still working:).

I've dropped mine twice. The front is fine but some parts of the edges are a little scraped up. fortunately, it still works. thats all that matters to me.

Oh really, sorry didn't know that n2. I was just curious to see how durable these things really were :)

I wonder which case would avert the damages of a fall better hard or soft? It seems that a hard case could withstand impact but not absorb shock??? wondering which case to buy ?Francis

I dropped mine twice. A warning --> check to see if the MS popped out. I was getting out of my car and forgot I had left the clie in my lap earlier in trip and the clie hit the ground. I picked it up and to my relief it was fine so I went on my merry way. An hour later I realized the MS was gone but I had since gotten back in my car and went to work. I went back 8 hours later and there in the street was my ms. It might have been run over (im not sure but it *was* dirtier). Dusted it off and it worked fine!!!

Once (first time) just tonight! Landed on carpet, but bounced and sent the MS flying elsewhere.... Seems to be ok. (phew!)

in these falls...how did the paint hold up...did it scratch easy or dent?...seems my nx70 is pretty sturdy

Once, at the supermarket check out. Luckily it was in a neoprene camera case at the time. Absolutely no damage.

I thought the paint was messed up....but I decided to try a gum eraser & all the marks came off.  I was happy.  The memory stick can eject pretty far tho....can't it?  LOL!

I am SO fumble-fingered! It's my major worry with so expensive an investment as a NX series. In fact, I've considered stepping down to a SJ series for that very reason.

I am most likely to drop it while trying to open the clamshell.

I keep my NX60 on a home-made bungie cord: a coiled cord attached to a belt loop with an alligator clip.

None yet. But dropping my T665 is why I now have an NX.

None yet. Well, I don't have one yet, but once I have it, I am sure it will fall once. It just happens. Can't wait to get it though.

Interested thread. Seems the NX is pretty sturdy!

One time from six feet high...scratched the paint off of my wall (which it scraped on the way down) but did no damag/scratching to the clie. I was mortified, but it still works like a charm.

I've dropped mine twice, once from about 4 ft onto thin (indoor/outdoor) carpet and once from about 2 ft on a ceramic tile floor. No damage in either instance, but I also have a Covertec case on my NX.

If you haven't seen the Covertec's up close, they have one drawback (in my opinion). The interior of the case is lined in plastic and not leather. My previous unit was a Clie N710 and I had a VAJA case for it. That is a very nice case (leather inside and out). It was pretty disappointing opening the Covertec and seeing the plastic lining. A case very similar to the Covertech is the Bellagio. It also has the magnetic closure like the Covertec, but supposedly comes with a leather lining. Several people have also commented on the Bellagio cases elsewhere at ClieSource. You may want to look at the Bellagio before you buy the Covertec. I think the Bellagio cases are a couple of bucks cheaper too. Here's the Bellagio site: www.bellagiodesigns.com

I had a true torture test drop while talking on the phone, looking up a memo, and walking into the restroom.

NX slipped, bounced off edge of counter, landed in toilet. *plunk*

The NX cannot swim. :P

Thank you Best Buy service plan.

My NX has hit the floor several times, I've stopped counting. Once, the bezel around the record button popped off. I couldn't get it to fit right until the second time it popped off (after hitting the floor again). I had to reset it the last time it hit the floor. This is why I paid Best Buy for the service plan.

I dropped mine the day I bought it. It Fell off of the desk while sitting in the cradle and cracked next to the power button. I took it back to the store and they replaced it. I am being very carefull now.

dropped mine last night at home when i was trying to place in my inside jacket pocket. thought it was in there, but i guess not cause it slid out and splat on the ground. fell about 4 feet onto very thin carpet. no damage that i can tell. guess i shouldn't be operating my nx while under the influence of wine.

when i place my NX on the floor or a table top, and angle the body such that the MS has a 45 degree trajectory angle, i can get it to launch up to 18 inches.
we all have an MS launching contest to see who can get the most distance!

I don't remember dropping my NX, but I got the NX by dropping my NR. :( I've kept a firmer grip on the NX.

Dropped it 4 times, fell on it 5 times, darn ice, and ran into a table a couple of time while in my pocket. I love my metal case!! Not a scratch on my NX and no apparent problems yet, although the case is certainly a little weathered.

I was attacked by terrorists once with the clie - the keyboard stopped all the shots from hurting me but I then had to reset it (shame on Sony) but the shop didn’t want to replace the barely bent unit cause they said the plan didn’t include bio/chemical/atomic weapons and stupid users that save on heavy metal cases. I owe the clie my life!

By the way - when talking about falling clies don’t talk about the ones that had a case (cause they are surely protected) what happens when they fall victim when you are working with it - screen wide open to face the terror...

by the way - my old 710 fell off once 2 feet and broke the jog button.
my 615 never fell
any my coming NX wont - I hope

Well, it never leaves the case and I use the provided wrist strap to make sure it will not fall when I am using it. So it has never fallen when in use.

05-04-2003, 06:10 PM
u mean a slipper case? not a boxing case....
and whats that wrist thing?

Alistar
05-04-2003, 06:16 PM
I use the metal case that flips to the right, it takes a little getting used to to hold and use the keyboard, but it works. The wrist thing came in the box with everything else. It goes on the opposite side of the camera button. It loops through that little hole and provides a wrist strap lifeline to the Clie should it slip out of your hand.

I've had mine for half a week and I've already dropped it twice....though both times were over a table while sitting down *phew*.

I dropped my old Treo 90 multiple times (including once when I had it in my bed sheets and I decided to air them out...hee...went flying across the room, flip cover came off but thankfully it still worked).
