Hello folks, I am new to the CLIE family. I know very little about PDA'S, but I purchased a PEG-NX70V/U two weeks ago And today I was loading "Marc SaltZman's TOP 250 Games" to the memory Stick when I received A "Fatal Alert" notice on the PDA screen, the message read,"MemoryMgr,cLine:3583,Free handle" the bottom of the screen Has a reset button.
I tried the reset button but nothing happened, I tried to turn the PDA off bit nothing seems to work. Can somebody help me please? Will A soft reset help?

Yes, a soft reset should do the trick!

Sometimes you just get error messages and never discover why (like on a desktop pc). I would try the soft reset and if that works, see if you can "recreate" the error. If so, I would do another soft reset and immediately remove whatever program you think might have been causing the problem (at least until you can research it further). If a soft reset won't work, try a warm reset. If that doesn't work, you could always go with a hard reset (which hopefully wouldn't be too traumatic given the age of your NX). Good luck!

I want to thank you for your quick and helpful response. I am not very computer or PDA knowledgable so I feel very lucky in having access to you folks who are very helpful and willing to share your knowledge. Again thank you very much

Hi,

For those of you who peridiocally experience the "MemoryMgr,cLine:3583,Free handle" fatal error, I have noticed something about it... It typically happens when an application's database file or another supporting file gets corrupted some how. The simple fix is to delete the corrupted file. For instance, I have gotten this error with Wordsmith on occasion - such that everything I try to load Wordsmith, I get the error. When this happens, I go into McFile and I find that there is a new file called "WordsmithOpen" on my handheld. As soon as I delete this file, Wordsmith works again.

do a warm reset. Hold the up button when you hit the reset pin.
This will prevent the OS from telling the program it had to reset. Then delete the files you think are the problem and soft reset again.

Oh yea and hit ctl-H on the keyboard to get to the launcher.

Yea know, now that I think about it. If you had VG on a T-series type Clie how would you get back to the laucher on a warm reset. Since it always opens in the prefs.

I have irregular fatal errors seemingly for no reason, more often than not after I have been playing with a new proggie.

I would just remind everyone about backing up files to the MS. I had to hard reset the other day and was most relieved that I had advanced backup installed, which backs up automatically every day :D

i don't think so b/c most of the times its the apps that cause the problems

Most of the time it's the apps, and yes fatal errors seem to be a fact of life. The Palm OS platform doesn't handle errors very well, neither does PPC.

I have crashed my memory stick by popping it out while MS Import was still connected, oh boy, what a mess that made:D!
