Just revisiting a topic and asking people for their opinions on MP3 players.
I am looking at three possible players to get and some of the pros and cons:

MMPlayer (http://www.mmplayer.com/)
Pros
+ Can play some AVIs
+ Lifetime registration for $14.95

Cons
- Average user interface
- Very rough on the edges.
- A lot of development to be implemented before it can match Pocket Tunes or AeroPlayer.
- Less stable - resulting in resets

Pocket Tunes (http://www.pocket-tunes.com/)
Pros
+ Polished product.
+ Good user intrface
+ lots of features

Cons
- Expensive one year upgrades/renewals for technical support.
$14.95 for basic and $29.95 for the deluxe for 1 year updates/renewals.

AeroPlayer (http://www.aerodrome.us/aeroplayer/)
Pros
+ Polished product.
+ Good user intrface
+ lots of features
+ option of yearly renewals or lifetime renewals.
$14.95 a year or $29.95 for lifetime.

Cons
- Less stable than Pocket Tunes (got it to crash on my T3 a few times - doesn't cope with switches between 320x320 to 320x480.

What are other peoples impression and value for money for just an MP3 player?

You're right. The UI on MMPlayer is HORRIBLE. PocketTunes is simply the best in my opinion. The feature I love and use most on it is the ability to listen to streaming internet radio stations. Soo cool. I have a very good friend who works for PocketTunes yorrick, so if you want a special discount on the software PM me. ;)
