Hi.. I created my first Status Bar!! I always wanted to create my own status bar but I didnt know to do it. the_iceman told me about festus skinnermaker program and thanks to them now I have my status bar.
Hope you like it.. Check the pictures to see some buttons that are cool!
Believe me, it looks way better in the Clie. I might create a VG for this status bar in the future.
Best of all... it is free!!!
WinSB (http://www.geocities.com/mrnako/WinSB.zip)
(To download right click and then "save target as")
http://www.1src.com/gallery/data/500/30634WinSB1.PNG
I called it WinSB... I put a white memory stick, since my ms duo pro is white :)
http://www.1src.com/gallery/data/500/30634WinSB2.PNG
The Wireless info little window with a personalized icon when offline. Also when you press the icon for wifi you will see the computers blink!!
http://www.1src.com/gallery/data/500/30634WinSB3.PNG
The WiFi connected and some windowze touch (Check out the little computers in the status bar they have now changed to the wifi indicator which is green)
http://www.1src.com/gallery/data/500/30634WinSB4.PNG
And finally my screen shot showing hi-launcher. Now you understand why the silk plug-in button is like the windowze button, I use it to launch my start menu. Also check the sound button, it is muted and looks like the windowze button ;)
Update!!
I just finished WinVG. You need pruss's Skinner in order to use it. I made it using festus440 VG Factory program.
You can download WinVG from here:

Very nice MrNako. I'm not sure if this is normal, but after soft resetting my TH55 and then seeing the SB for the first time, it's very nice and clear, but after pressing the home icon in the vg to go to the home screen, the SB gets grainy and blurry looking.

Yes I noticed that also but in the simulator, I assume you are using Clie Launcher right? Because in the simulator it looked grainy when using Clie Launcher but in everything else it looked normal.
Im using appshelf and I dont have that problem. I noticed though that when using the Data Import app it also turns grainy, so I guess it is only in some Clie apps, like it switches to a lower resolution. I will still be testing it.
Maybe those SB and VG experts can explain this to us.

Yes, so far, it only looks grainy in CLIE Launcher and Data Import. Looks fine with AppShelf. I haven't tried it yet with ZLauncher.

Generally, the VG and SB will follow the launched application. If it is 256K color based, the VG/SB will revert to that level of color also. If the app is 16bit (16 million colors) then the 16bit VG/SB will look sharp! ;)

Hmmm. The behavior of this SB verifies that. So CLIE Launcher and Data Import are less than 16 bit? They look 16 bit, well at least CLIE Launcher does.

The original one will always be in your clie since it is in ROM memory. Check out some other threads, there are programs available to change through skins easily.

Clie Launcher is always 8-bit. That annoys me. Most apps, however, follow the system default, and you can use Skinner to set system default to 16-bits. I use the standard Palm launcher myself, and that works fine in 16-bit mode.

So if I go to options then "Standard View", that goes to the standard palm launcher which is 16 bits? Also, AppShelf and ZLauncher are 16 bits. So if I make either of those my default launcher, MrNako's WinSB will always look good (not grainy), and be in 16 bits? Will all SB's work like this? Be grainy when you go into an app that is less than 16 bits? Thanks.

Superb! Thanks a lot for sharing your work!

I would have loved the wireless icon to be an active version of the little monitors! I know there are only two lights whereas the original icon has three states... maybe the monitors could be grey for the "off" state??
It'd also be nice to have a different battery icon as well (without the plug tho' ;) lol ):

I also thought about the little monitors to be the signal indicator, I guess I can make another version. And the battery it would be nice too bit it is more difficult since I have to create every single battery level, but I can try.
I would do it next week because this weeks I have my summer finals!! :(
Coo! :)
I know the battery is a big job - looking at them both now [battery icon and wireless indicator] I do like what you've done with them. The blue battery sits quite well and the wireless icon is nice in that green colour.
Top job! more more :):):)
I'm just trying to set up Hi-Launcher to look like yours [...I'm a bit of a completeist] Is that a ZLauncher skin? - which one?? :)
Thanks

But my question is why does everybody always make Windows & XP skins? The last thing I want to see after working with XP on my laptop all day is then XP all over my Clie. :D
How 'bout a Mac OSX skin? The Mac OS is MUCH nicer visually IMO. ;)

Be grainy when you go into an app that is less than 16 bits? Thanks.
Sort of. It'll be either grainy or sharp but with the colors a bit off, depending on whether dithering is enabled for the bitmap. Skinner 1.10 will let you control the dithering flag. Right now, it's up to the skin developer to decide how to set it in the .rcp file. Every skin I know of has dithering on.

Thanks for the info. Dr. Pruss. I don't know some of these words though. What is dithering? Does dithering control the sharpness of a picture? Is dithering off in MrNako's WinSB and that's what is causing it to become grainy in CLIE Launcher? Thanks again.

Mrnako how did you get the tabs on the side?
Those are the tabs of Clie ORganizer... do you have a Th55? if so, then go to menu, Frame > CLIE Organizer. There you have to enable "CLIE ORganizer mode" If you want to asign AppShelf to home disable "CLIE Organizer assigned to home" and also in Menu>Basic enable Appshelf is asigned to home.
Enabling Clie Organizer mode will ask you to soft reset so, you probably want to assign first appshelf to home and then enable clie organizer mode or viceversa.

Here is the Sb Skin MrNako made. I did like it a lot. However when it was 11 i'clock or 12 or 10 or any other 2 digit the time was overlaping the expand arrow. Thus I moved it to the left a little. In consequence I had to edit the sound I con a littles bit. I added the Battery state and it looks great! I also redesigned the MS icon. I is now a HiRes black MS.
Here is a Screen:

BumpThat,
The Screen-shot looks GREAT!!!!!!!!!
You may run into a little issue with the battery and TH handhelds. If you are using the SB16.bat skinner SB Generator as it currently is... I think you will not have the results as expected.
The SB16.bat file takes the coordinates of the battery and basically generates the battery 'states' based on a 24x24 pixel battery. It takes the FULL battery pic(from one graphic) and the EMPTY battery pic (from a different graphic) and generates the battery pics from those two graphics. I believe, and PRUSS can confirm or clarify here, the batch program uses a 'verticle' method for determining how much battery is 'available'. With your battery on the side and not using a battery 24px tall the battery levels might not be 'accurate' to the end-user. I'm just letting you know.
I believe you can copy the SB16.BAT and/or the DOBATTERY.bat and make the necessary changes in order to effectively show the battery status of a horizontal battery.
:)

if you are using Festus440's Th55 Skinner ... you might be in luck. If you are required to put in say 10 graphics for each battery state ... then you should be fine. If you are only putting in 2 (Empty and Full) then the program is probably making the battery levels 'vertically'. Just depends on the number of graphics you supplying the program. (There is always one more state .... the battery charging state ... but not really talking about that one).
I'm not using the Th55 SB Skinner. Not that I don't want to, but it only compiles SBs for the th55. Using the skin generation programs, which pruss has out on PalmGear, I'm able to generate a SB which will work on the NX/NZ/TH55 and whatever else is compatible (Not used for NR nor UX). This gives me some flexability to only generate one skin and it works on multiple handhelds, including the th55.
You have to install imagemagik on your computer in order for his programs to work.
Basically you create 6 image files which his programs 'cut-up' into the graphics it needs. The images are full status bars ... Image 1 might be without a battery, and with a disabled down arrow. Image 2 might be a disabled UP arrow with a charging battery and the speaker ON... etc. You place the graphics where they should be on the status bar... then generate the 6 images (in .bmp format) in accordance to what the program expects.... save off those images and then run his program which will compile them. It might sound more 'difficult' than it really is. Once you compile 1 or 2 skins ..... it becomes easy. There are even 'default' graphics like for the MS and things like that which can be 'changed' for skins that are going to be compiled.
Each way has its advantages. :)

I drew all the states of the battery level. I tried the program pruss put out on palmgear. But I coulcnt figure out how to make it compile. Now that you explaned it to me, I understand a littles. But the TH55 Skinner from festus seems really easy to me. If I gave someonr the bitmaps, then they could recompile it for all the devices.
Thanx for the Information Doc

Well it's some awesome Status Bar!!! :) [The VG's there too just not displayed].
Yes it's ZLauncher. I've done the same with Appshelf and having a lot of fun with that, but was stunned at the invisible look here. I have fast access to everything I need with this setup, thanks to Hi Launcher mainly. I have 6 categories and ZL set to cycle with a button press.

MrNako, I really like WinSB with the black / dark gray MS and with the expand arrow moved a little bit so as not to get in the way of the time display. I also like the regular battery state icon, but if you like BUMP THAT's version of the battery and can make it work properly in you WinSB, then that would be awesome too. That's right there's only one Status Bar (with the first version of wireless icons included in the zip file), one virtual grafitti and the second version of wireless icons. I add everything new to the first post.
About the expaned arrow I think it is what makes it look more like windows, but if you think it interferes it can be moved to the right as BUMP THAT said, or can be shrinked down, or removed if you dont like it for another version.

Hey BUMP THAT and MrNako. Have you guys exchanged files and such? MrNako, I really like WinSB with the black / dark gray MS and with the expand arrow moved a little bit so as not to get in the way of the time display. I also like the regular battery state icon, but if you like BUMP THAT's version of the battery and can make it work properly in you WinSB, then that would be awesome too. I don't mind either battery state icons, but only if they work properly! :p Man, I gotta figure out how to use these skin programs so I can make some SB's too!
No, we have not exchanged anything yet. I would like him to send me the battery and ms icons so I can add them to WinSB.

Quick question about the TH55 Skin Maker from Festus' site. When making a SB skin, I'm supposed to edit all 119 bitmaps in the "SB_Bitmaps" folder right?

Of course not, all your comments are important. You said the expanded arrow interferes, so there must be done something. I was only saying that it is what makes it look more similar to the windows bar. But if you and more people dont like it I can do another version of the status bar without the expanded arrow. :D

Very cool MrNako! Thanks.
I agree, I think the expand arrow makes the bar destinct. Smaller would be ok I suppose. It doesn't interfere on my TH55 but if yo're talking cross compatability with other devices....

OK:. [sorry I've changed the background slightly] It's just the same as MrNako's first post, only with ZLauncher instead of AppShelf. Hope that's what you thought...

Yes, the expand arrow is nice. It would be even nicer if it were a little bit smaller. Also, I really like the dark gray MS icon. Everything else in WinSB is cool and fine. The horizontal battery status is nice, but only if it will work properly. If it won't work, the original WinSB battery status is good.
Edit:
The horizontal battery status takes up more space in the SB so the original vertical WinSB battery status is better.

I'm not doing a VG. That SB is MrNako's. I just changed one button. Man, just that one button took me a couple of hours to do. It was my first time using Festus' TH55 SkinMaker program. Easy to figure out, but it just took a long time to get the button to look just how I wanted it to.
I don't know why the screenshot I took looks so grainy. It's as clear and nice looking as the picture of the updated SB MrNako posted in post #86.

You can download the windows icon for wifi in MrNako's first post. If it still won't show, try using Dr. Pruss's Skinner program.

I am using Skinner and I already had the WirelessSB2.prc file in the Skinner folder on my MS, but it doesn't show up in the Skinner SB list. I had a bad experience Hot Sync'ing a skin to my handheld with Skinner running so I assumed that the right way to do this was to copy the file to my MS.

Thanks m8rk and MrNako. It took me awhile to get that icon to look right with the resizing I had to do. Thanks also to Festus for helping me out with the VG. I kept compiling it with the TH55 SkinMaker, but Festus pointed me to his VG Factory program. The VG came out great with that one.

Hi... Well I dont have a UX50 to be able to create one. You can send me a UX and maybe I can create a SB and VG for it :D :D :D
Can you teach me how to make skins and what programs to use? Also, how do I use your icons?
MrNako, can you at least do the VG please? And if any kind soul have a UX50 and know how to make SBs, please convert the WinSB to be in landscape. Please adn thank yous.
IsLNdbOi
08-27-2004, 10:17 PM
For someone to convert MrNako's SB's, they would need the TH55 SkinMaker program from Festus440's site (Does that program also make SB's for the UX series?). For the VG's VG Factory from Festus's site is also needed. You would also need the source bitmaps for the VG and SB from MrNako.
Ok, I know how to make the VG but may need a walk on the SB. Can I have the source bitmaps for the VG? (Basically those two up/down images right?)
I can use Photoshop to adjust so the icons face the right way.
IsLNdbOi

You'll have to ask MrNako for the SB bitmaps.
I need VG only since I dont know any program to make SB. If anyone, please tell me or better yet, convert it for me =).

When I am using WinVG and WinSB then I go into some of my games or apps.. They (WinVG and WinSB) become very ugly. The colors just get weird like there are other colors bleeding into the VG and SB from behind. It's hard to explain it. I tried using the Force 16 bit system depth in Skinner, but WinVG and WinSB still do that weird color thing.

IsLndboi-
Maybe i can offer an explanation... Some applications only support a certain amount of colors. Two examples that come to mind are Scrolliez and Lemmings on the CLIE. There's nothing you can do about it except hope that there are compatible color/density bitmaps in the sb/vg you are using.

Where can I get a VG like MrNako's above? The one with the date/time/calendar in the first screenshot....that is way cool! The quick launch icons on the right of the screen...how do you write numbers without launching an app?
I use ZL, not AppShelf...is that an AppShelf thing?
Can one of you VG masters make a similar VG with the quicklaunch icons on the left and right borders? Such that letters are written over the date/time and numbers are written over the calendar? Of course, one would want to change icons as preferences change. Is sucha thing possible?

Too bad.... ZZTechs is usually so quick to integrate new fetures! Overall, I have been very impressed with ZL.

I mean, you can enter text and not accidentally launch anything...the calendar and date/time just stay there as you enter text.
Any problems with the switch? I have an NX80V. Can you use ZL themes/VG's/SB's?
The calender is not the VG, it can just be placed in the same location, and hides undeneath the VG when expanded. (it can also be moved to the top of the screen, and be any colour and level of transparency too)

Applications that use the regular color palette will work fine when forced to 16bit color (as with the force16 hack, used with YAMH). The problem arises when the program uses a non standard palette. When forced to 16bit, these programs will display incorrectly. To know if a program uses a non standard palette, load a 16bit VG skin, and if the colors are very strange, then it is probably a strange palette. The original Bejeweled and Insaniquarium are examples of apps with non standard palettes.
