I can't get my NX70 to power on with the switch, it will only power on by doing a soft reset. The switch works fine for turning the unit off. Any suggestions.

Backup your unit and do a hard reset. If you still have a problem, then your unit has a hardware malfunction.

My NX does that sometimes after charging from a cig lighter and then switching to the cradle for some reason. It stops doing it after I give it a soft reset on a failed start.
Is that indicitive of a problem or just a deal with it phenomina?

Make sure you didn't put the HOLD button on. The HOLD button is on the lower left side of the NX70V. If this button is on, the unit will exhibit the same problem you're having.

He did say he did a soft reset. I don't think its the hold switch. One other item would that the backlight had been shutoff by holding the power button too long.

I went to the airport a week ago. I had my nx70 stuck in my pocket and took it out when i went through the check. I sat down at the gate and noticed that the power light would blink and it would not turn on.
If I did a soft reset, the thing would power on, but shut off after it got to the screen with the date set on it.
I then noticed that the hold button was on, after I went back and verified with the guy at security that passing the device through the xray machine would not cause a malfunction.

I just tried a backup and hard reset, still no luck. It's not the hold button or the backlight either. After a soft reset the unit comes on and seems to work fine, it just won't come on with the power switch or by pressing the capture button on the side for the camera will not turn it on either.

That then pretty much rules out a software problem. There is a lot of intricate stuff inside the clie, so anything is possible. It maybe small in size, but not in complexity, sorry:(.

Would you by chance have installed a program called PowerOn (http://www.palmblvd.com/software/pc/PowerOn-for-OS-5-2002-11-29-palm-pc.html) ?
I had exactly the same symptom after using PowerOn. The unit would not stay on after I switch it on. But I found that if you pressed the power switch and held it down for say a second or two, the unit would stay on until you next switch if off (and the problem will come back when you try to switch it on).
I disabled PowerOn and the problem went away.

Would PowerOn be active in the clie after a hard reset?

Thanks for your responses, but it look like I am going to have to send it in for repairs.

Just to keep you posted, Sony suggested the same things that were mentioned here then told me that I need to send it in for service.
