I got the zire today.
- Are scratches on the screen kinda inevitable?
- How do you change an application's category?
Yes, scratches are quite inevitable. I suggest getting a screen protector. ARM and Brando are the best ones out there.
To change Categories, tap the menu bar, tap Category and choose a category. You might also want to use a launcher to make the process easier.

·Scratches on the screen are kinda darn near impossible unless you make an effort do so. I've had a Palm of one sort or another for about 4 years. Never seen a scratch. Make sure you use a proper stylus to write on it. Don't use metal like ball points, or retracted pens with metal tips. If you use your fingernails or fingers, make sure they aren't gritty. Don't carry in a pocket with the case.
- How do you change an application's category?
·Select Menu/App/Category from the home screen.

Thanks.
I can't sync. This is a really terrible GUI, in my opinion. I installed palm desktop. I want to sync my palm with outlook (and voice memos and pictures to go to palm desktop). I don't know how to do it. When installing VersaMail it brought up a program saying plug your zire in, so i did, and i went to 'hotsync' and pressed the hotsync icon. It said it was waiting for a connection from the computer, and the computer said it was waiting for a connection from the handheld. I closed all that down, opened up hotsync manager from the start menu and i've got an icon in the bottom right corner (the taskbar bit), which when I click on gives me a menu with nothing helpful on. How do I sync???
[edit] it seems to be working now. i think i didn't push the cable in enough.

About the battery - Is it susceptible to the memory effect? Should i leave it to run down fully before recharging or just recharge say, every night, regardless of the battery level?

No need to run the battery down. For this type of battery it's better to keep it topped up. Also if you run the battery down to zero, you'll lose your info and have to re-sync to install it again.
As you're in the UK, I'd recommend you check Proporta's deluxe screen protector. They're high quality and Proporta are based in Brighton, so you should get quick, cheap shipping (www.proporta.com).

Hi Biddlesby,
Paul from palmOne here. Alsicole is correct, its not necessary to drain the battery. As a rule of thumb, if you use your Zire everyday, its doesn't hurt to recharge it every evening.
If the battery drains to the point where your handheld does not operate, it stores your data safely for about five days. In this case, there is enough residual energy in the battery to store the data, but not enough to turn on your handheld. If your handheld does not turn on when you press the power button, recharge it immediately.
If your battery drains and you have the handheld in an uncharged state for an extended period of time, you can lose all of the stored data.
Here are some other tips on how you can help conserve battery life.
1. Reduce the brightness of the display.
2. Reduce the Auto-off after interval
3. Use Keylock Preferences to prevent your handheld from being turned on accidentally.
4. Minimize use of the expansion card slot.
Information on all this can be found in the Zire 72 User Manual, which can be downloaded from palmOne's Zire 72 Community page: http://www.palmone.com/us/community/myhandheld/zire72/
There are also links there for registering your Zire and Tips & Tricks.
Enjoy :)
Best

Thanks all. I registered my zire when I got it :).
Concerning the camera. On images taken with the camera set to 320 x 240, there's a green bar across the top. On all images, there is a slight light-blue tint to the left. Is this normal?

Also:
- Can the infrared be used as a remote control for tvs etc?
- What should I clean the screen with?
- Is it possible to get a tv scheduler like digiguide?
- Can the 72 be set to 'wake up' to display a reminder for a task/calendar event - like the alarm?
- Is there a better program than expense for money? It doesn't keep track of the current amount of money you have, and you can't set up money going into your account, only out (expense).

If you want use usb, i recommend that you download softick PPP from here www.softick.com/ppp or if you want go internet using wireless connection, then there are two options : bluetooth and wi-fi, bluetooth is 10-15 meter wireless connection and it recuires that computer is on while your zire 72 is in internet and bluetooth sd card don't cost so much and zire 72 have build in bluetooth, but wi-fi recuires much money wi-fi card and wlan access point and very good battery life but is very fast and easy to setup to work and i forget tell that it can go thought walls and you can go to internet even up to 50 meters away....
