Hi everyone,
I'm searching for a picture viewer that is able to display large images like for example a map of my local metro stations.
Fireviewer was able to that just fine but it doens't support HIRES.
Splashphoto and AcidImage are ok for displaying 320x320 images but what about large ones ? Any suggestions are welcome (maybe a viewer that also supports native file formats)
thx chris
sry for my bad english, its not my native language as u already might noticed :)

Did you check out Handstory???
http://www.handstory.com/
It's a great multi-purpose app and one of Palm's best kept secrets. I have a map that is much like what your looking for and I can move the screen around with my stylus.
BTW, it's also HiRes+, too many features to list here...

AcidImage is also 320x480, and you can move the screen around with your stylus.

handstoty: doesn't support HIRES, made out of a 200kb gif, a 1.5 MB pdb :(
acidimage: yeah...BUT i can't read the names of my train stations if I zoom in, the picture just becomes very very blocky :(
thx anyways

HandStory does support hi res. You just have to check the hi res box during conversion. If you check the compression box, it will compress the image as well. The boxes are on the lower right of the conversion dialog. When converting images, be sure to select the size you wish on the handheld. For maps, I generally find 2x the screen size to work well for readability. Another nice feature in HandStory's conversion is the ability to crop the image before conversion. That's great for maps off the web that sometimes have funky, superfluous borders on them.
Another program that does a great job of converting maps and images larger than the screen is Fireviewer. That's what I used before HandStory. I also does a good job of compression.

To expand on tanker_bob's tip, also consider tweaking the color setting. I almost exclusivly use the 256 color setting. Unless you really need to view high-quality photos, this will yield excellent compression results. Also, if you are viewing basically black & white, then try "Grey Scale". It should yield even smaller files.
Another option with oversize pictures is to tweak the "resize" function. You can have HandStory retain the original size (letting you pan the image) or you can have it auto-fit to the screen.
That's the really cool thing about HandStory: You have quite a but of control and flexibility at the time of clipping/saving.
To me, there are only two things that HandStory lacks: zoom in or out, and View unconverted images (like .jpg or .gif) from the Memory Stick. I requested these features to their support, and I suggest you all do the same. The lack of these two features require me to use a program like AcidImage. If HandStory supported these two features, then I could dump AcidImage.
