I called J&R and asked why they had such a great price on their TH-55 (299.99) and the rep said that the model is being discontinued so they want to get rid of their supply, still the best Palm out there and still do not understand why Sony is leaving the PDA market in the US after finally making such a great model.

It was a discontinued item on the Sony Clie site a couple of weeks ago. If you click the Buy It button, it tells you the item you want is no longer available. :(

When you think about it, most models out there are discontinued, all Sony Models, Palm III, IIIxe, V, Tungsten T1, T2, etc, etc. The thing is there is enough software that currently works on the TH55 to make it very functional for the next few years and the unit is probably one of the nicest PDA's out there right now - so at $299 it is a very good deal (I mean steal). :D

At Sonystyle, all the CLIEs now come with instructional DVDs (They must have ran out of cases)

It's a shame that they're leaving the PDA market. I hope they come back. I'm glad that I bought my TH55/E when I did. It's the best PDA I've ever bought thus far. I would get my hands on one if I didn't have one and had the need for it.

Geee.....
I don't see what all excitement is...
I still think my Nx80v is the best model out there :)
It is a bummer to see Sony leave since they contributed SO MUCH to the development of the Platform by way of Formfactor, display, multimedia function ( Mp3s, video, onboard camera to take stills and small movies, voice recording) and last I LOVE WHAT THEY DID TO the standard apps on the TH55 with the tabs and drag and drop stuff... GOSH..IF only palmOS and PalmSource had one quater of the talent of the Clie Team.
I personally don't think they will return to the Palm OS market here in the US or in Asia. Sony seems to be dropping the Palm all together... I figure once the TH55 makes it to Overstocked.com the Clie site from sony will go away completely.
But I have made good on my word.. I no longer buy anymore Sony products. I just bought my wife a nice digital camera..and had considered a nice Sony in the past.. but instead went with an another brand all together.

I think a lot of people think in that way. The Memory stick held everything a little bit together. And while the Clie is gone there is no reason to buy SONY anymore. Another PDA means SD-Memory and no Sony camera - no need of projectors or DVD-player with MS-slots. Its not a trick - it was a SONY and its gone

Even if Sony comes back to the US and EU PDA market, I'm not going to buy a CLIE because I'm not spending any more money on MemorySticks, and I would have probably bought a PalmOne or another device that uses SD (Unless Sony realizes their destructive ways and includes an SD slot in a new CLIE).

I got my TH55, and I'm glad of it.
I just hope there is something better around by the time I want/have to upgrade again.
