Alarm 5 days earlier; contacts change to private

I am using the Tungsten T3 with HotSync Manager 4.1.0 There are two issues with which I need help:
1. When I sync with Outlook 2002 (with latest Conduits), my Contacts often get changed to Private and I can't see them; I choose Hide Private files to hide some documents. I have gone through my Contacts and removed the check under Private, but they come back. I believe it happens when I choose either "handheld over desktop" or vice versa. Anyone help?

2. Is there anyway to change the default alarm on tasks from "5 days earlier"? This default makes no sense to me, as I want alarms the same day as a task is due.

I know you said you are using the latest conduits, but just to be sure - have you downloaded the latest Palm Desktop (4.1.4)? That includes the latest Outlook conduits. I have no idea what would cause your contacts to be changed to private. Are you using any third party software for managing contacts?

Sorry - can't help on the default alarms on tasks as I don't use them.

tasks are just like things-to-do-eventually. if you want daily notices, use the calendar

I use the Calendar for appointments. My desire on Task Alarms is to alert me to work on this task, and not let it slip through without attention. I do use priority settings, but sometimes I have a bunch of High Importance tasks.
