Is there is an app to delete the bits of old programs you no longer use? Thanks!

Try Uninstall Hack
They have two versions . One for Palm OS4.1 and one for Palm OS 5.0

uninstall hack + filez.
for filez, you can sort the files by e.g creator or type and delete files which you think is out of place.
of course it's highly advisable to backup first before you try this out.

Whenever I check my files/preferences http://dev.palmos.com/creatorid/ in order to do a tidy-up, about 90% of the time I cannot find where they originate from. Strange that...

try systool, cleanup, or leftovers to remove "bits of old programs" from saved and unsaved preferences. Uninstall Manager is good to but works best if it has been installed before the program that has been deleted.

A little warning about deleting preferences. Some apps store their databases under a different creator ID (for some unknown reason) and the preferences for these databases show up as "Unknown" in SysTool and the like.
One example is DateBk5. Its database (datebkDB) has a creator ID of CESE, which is different from the app itself.

I think you can run Cleanup to search for the owner of CESE or apps that use it the most. I was able to find most of the "unknown" Creator IDs with Cleanup, assuming the apps are in RAM or MS. SysTool & LeftOver do help a little bit. FileZ, unfortunately, only find the ones in RAM, not in MS.

Alrighty, I'll give Cleanup a try.

Is there an app that does NOT require a hackmaster to delete the old fragments?? I always seem to get fatal errors and reset swith hackmasters.
FileZ, Cleanup, LeftOvers, and SysTool are not hacks. There is one DA called System Analyzer DA that can do the same thing but it won't identify those Saved and Unsaved Preferences of those apps in MS.
Why not use the included app: MSGate? I've found it works for me.

MSGate can identify and delete orphaned files like those "unknown" saved and unsaved preferences?
