All:
Sadly, I retired THeGo!Go! from my TH55 due to recent threads such as these:
http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62905
http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62031
I think the final straw was reading that people's capture button was no longer working because of the unintended "heavy usage" resulting from the remapping of the on/off function to the capture button.
Anyway, has anyone else found other programs/tips that they can recommend to "replace" THeGo!Go!?
In particular, I must admit that I'm not used to the on/off slider on the TH55 because I find it awkward to use. Maybe I'll get used to it. What else have others done to conveniently power on/off the TH55 without using the orignal slider?
How about the lens cover/shutter alarm? Should I not bother trying to replace that feature because it will "slow down" my TH55?
How about remapping the 4th button? I tried, but I never ever really could justify keeping a precious hard button mapped to "Data Assistance." I just never found a use for that feature.

I have put theGo!Go! away now too. Now all I need is a program to replace the shutter open warning alarm.
I don't see any problem (no slowdown and spread the power on/off buttons to 5-6 other hard buttons). The camera open shutter warning is too important not to have. I don't want dirt getting into the lens. So I'm keeping mine. ;)

I'm guessing those people have faulty buttons. Those buttons should be rated for hundreds of thousands or millions of presses. I doubt they are being "worn out." I've never heard of a camera's shutter button being worn out. Sure, it could happen, but the odds are against it, and it isn't from "over-use."

I believe in a previous thread someone said that if you used THe Go Go to remap the 4th button, then just deleted it, it would still be remapped. It changes a setting in the Palm OS that is still supportted on the Clie, they just didn't give you a way to change it in the prefs.
When I replaced my 615 with the 55, I just did a resync, and the 55 picked up my 4th button remap without having to do anything further.

Actually, the Clie range has always had a reputation for having crap buttons ;)
BTW, the button-setting from THGoGo is permenant - Once you set that 4th button you can erase THGoGo and the 4th button will still function as you have set it.

I'm currently in training for removing TheGoGo :) . Originally I used it to map the 4th button to the calculator, the capture button to power on, and the voice-rec button for hotsync. After the comments about performance I thought I'd better try to wean myself off TheGoGo. So far I've now got used to using the regular power-on button. I always powered it off with the stylus anyway so that was never an issue, and the 4th button mapping will survive an uninstall anyway so that's OK (plus I don't really use those front buttons anyway).
My only hold-out is the voice-rec button for hotsync, but I have a new sync cable on order from Brando that has a sync button on it so, as soon as that arrives, TheGoGo is history as far as I'm concerned. The other advantage of having a dedicated hotsync cable is that I have the power charger in a different place to my computer so I wont need to keep moving the little DC&Hotsync adapter between my charger and my hotsync cable.

Until you do a hard reset that is.
About CLIE buttons crapping out, I guess I was lucky with my N760C buttons for 2.5 years of abuse with games like Tetris. :p

I removed the THeGoGo! app, I didnt really use it, only for turning on or off the unit using the capture button but then I realized that I turn my th more frequently by pressing the 4th button, and turn it off by tapping on "turn off" in Hi-Launcher. I removed THeGoGo! and the 4th button still turns on my clie. Thats nice.

You can use Hi-Launcher which has customizable menus and toggles for items such as bluetooth, backlight, power on/off.
ZLauncher can do this too. I'm sure there are loads of software out there made just for turning of a palm.
I added the Lock & Off button in the ZLauncher Bottom Bar. The key button on the left end of Bottom Bar, above the Menu button in the screenshot below

That's Mythomania's "Sphinx" status bar skin. It comes with the VG skin of the same name. You can purchase it at Handango.

No other software is required to get the status bar and vg skins to work. You just install (through hotsync or transfer from memory stick) them and perform a soft reset after installation.
Right. Just install SphinxStatus_NX.prc and WirelessMgr_enUS.prc. The latter is to add TH55 WiFi button that NX does not have. If you want to add the Sphinx VG skin, then install the 3rd. file, SphinxGraffitiINT_NX.prc. I match it with BandiT's ZL theme Orange, as you see below. huh?

I use a third party application called Hi-Launcher (you can buy it on PalmGear). It allows you to set up a menu a bit like Microsoft Windows Start menu. One of the items on my menu is an "Off" button. Hi-Launcher provides all sorts of special items that you can add to your menu, an off button is just one of them.
