Tonight, when I put my Clié on its craddle, I realized that it was keeping on
resetting! I thought maybe I left my "prefs" parameter set to always
on yesterday...
When I removed it from the craddle, I was not able to power it on anymore.
I put it back on the craddle and it was hard resetted!! Whenever I remove
it from the craddle now, I'm not able to power it on and it soft-resets when
I put it back on the craddle.
I think that the internal charging mechanism is broken because when it is
off in the craddle the power light is orange-flashing. When it is on and in
the battery information panel, the state changes from external (charging
from the craddle) to internal (discharging)... That's what the blinking light
tell me too...
My problem is:
+ I'm in Canada where this model has never been sold (I bought it through
a friend in USA)
+ Sony gave up Clié PDA
+ It has been said that repair of Sony PDA in Canada is a pain in the *ss
even for the NX73V that's supposed to be supported here (at least
sold)!!
My baby is dying!! Is there a doctor in the room??

FOR A MOMENT IT WAS BLINKING GREEN IN THE CRADDLE AND IT STAYED
OFF ALL THE TIME!!

I tried to hold the power button and it then asked me to press "up" key to
hard-reset. If I cancel, it keep on green-blinking and stay off. If I agree,
it return to the orange-blinking state from my first post!
Can it be that the reset internal switch is stuck! Holding power switch
would produce a hard-reset! But it is not soft-resetting all the time...

I had the problem with a blinking orange light on my '80V and found it to be a malfunctioning power supply. Evidently, the Sony supply was not delivering the correct voltage or current (not sure which). I swapped the supplies and the problem was solved.
Now, as for your problem with crashing...maybe that will clear it up, too!

I ordered another battery from a web company from USA. It has been
sent to my office (but I'm on vacations, I will do an exception going to
the office tomorrow...)
I think I shook my Palm too much because now the digitizer is not working
well. I'm not even able to set it in the initial screen after hard-reset...
I don't think the new battery will solve this problem...

I received my new battery and installed it.
I had the same problem. No charging but now even with the old battery
the flash power led has disappeared. No more flashin light!
I shook my Clié very hard and now no more display. Just garbage lines...
I've been too hard...
I'm thinking about changing to another PDA with no moving parts!! But:
1. I have many Clié specific items: Wi-fi CF Card
MS Pro 256
MS Pro 512
CF 256
CF 1 GB
2. No other model at PalmOne has: Digital Camera with 1.3 Mpixels
AND 320x480
But I can live without Wi-fi and keyboard.
Maybe a T3 but it has a moving part, the slider!!

TH55 sounds like the model for you. I'm sure you are used to that nice HighRes+ screen on the NX80V, so the TH will be familiar territory. :D

Just like babies, Clies don't take well to being shaken.
Your NX80V now has 'Shaken Clie Syndrome'. :p

If Sony was still on the road, maybe a TH55 would be a good solution even
if the camera is only 0.3 MPixels.
But Sony doesn't sell it anymore and the service will be progressively stopped.
I know that many accessories will still be usable but is it a good idea to pay
another $450 to get a PDA that soon will not be supported?
Another thing: in Quebec (Canada) if a device is not bilingual (french &
english) it cannot be sell directly in stores. I don't know if I will be able to
get a TH55 here... And no more buying without support this time!

My understanding of the 'blinking orange light in the cradle' is that the power connector where it plugs into the back of the cradle or plug adapter is not making good contact. I remember a thread where Sony had admitted it was a chronic problem. I have this problem too and I'm thinking of sending it back for warranty service.
