I really want to get AvantGo into Internal Memory and free up the RAM. But it seems I can't sync no matter where I put the .prc. So my question is as above, but with question marks. Flaming humbly endured! Xcpt frm u, mik p!

Are you asking whether you can put Avantgo onto the expansion flash card instead of internet memory (RAM) so that you can free up precious RAM? With Avantgo, you must install the main program in internal memory (RAM) but can opt to have most of the data (offline web pages) on the SD card. But, when you do the Hotsync, it can take forever to update. If you want to try, go into the Avantgo program menu options, server preferences, settings. Check the "Use card".
I've tried using LauncherX to run Avantgo off the SD card with the shortcut but couldn't get it to work, even when bundling so I gave up.
I have personally given up on this and have stopped using Avantgo. Instead, I use Plucker and convert all the web pages I want to view offline and transfer them to my Palm. And JPluckX for converting rss/xml feeds. They work great and are free.
I think iSilo does similar converstions but it's not free.
I have AvantGo.prc stored in InternalMedia under /Palm/Launcher/ folder. (This file alone saves 949K from RAM)
But inorder to HotSync, AGConnect file has to remain in RAM.
If you want to save further RAM, then try the Save to Card method as mentioned above.
Hope this helps.

??? The AvantGo.prc file can be stored in Internal Media? I thought it wasn't possible, even with AG Connect in RAM.

See, that's what I'm asking! I tried /AliasExt w/ and w/o folder, root directory and other things. I think I tried /Palm/Launcher/, too, but will try again. I knew you had to keep Connect in RAM, but the .prc is close to an MB I'd like to have free...

Thank you Eddy! I have no idea why I never tried, or even thought of doing this until now. I just freed up 953K from RAM by putting AvantGo.prc into Internal Media.
Works perfectly! Syncs no problem. :D
yeah, glad to be of help Winexprt! Hope this resolves the RAM problem with mamut also. :)
It's good to know that winexprt actually got it working, so I'm not the only one here. :D
Having Avantgo file in InternalMedia is a big plus, since there're many other tiny applications that must reside in RAM.(eg. KeyQuick, WiFile, pTunes, these files takes up lot of RAM space.)
I'm only left with a remainning of 6MB RAM at the moment. But that's fair enough for me. I also have many other huge file games stored in InternalMedia, which is really useful when trying to free up space. :p

Have you tried PowerRUN Eddy? I use it to launch PTunes (& other large apps) from my MS. Saves a TON of RAM space that way! :D

ya, go for the powerrun option.
it moves not only the main avantgo.prc, but also related files such as: agdocmq.prc (697kb), dbpodfuad.prc (33kb) and about 10 more small files.
it hotsync perfectly.

I already have all my AvantGo docs on the card via AvantGo itself. :)
I checked the 'Use Card' option in AG.

I remember now. I did try /Palm/Launcher/ option, it syncs fine, but I lost the icon, even with a soft reset. If I recall correctly, it did not work for me 'PowerRunned' to Int Mem.

If you moved AvantGo.prc to Internal Media...the icon will be in Internal Media. :D
There's no need to 'PowerRun' it to internal media. Just use ClieFiles to move the AvantGo.prc into IM. Simple as that. No soft reset needed either. Just 'move & use'. ;)

Dude, I did that, no icon in Appshelf, not in any folder. Just a solid blue circle in the Mini Pad where the icon was before I moved it to Int. Med. What ARE you talking about?

You never mentioned you were using appshelf until now. I don't use any launchers. When I tap on the category in the PalmOS launcher in the upper-right of the screen, and select 'Internal Media', I see AvantGo in there...exactly where I moved it.
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! :p

I got PTunes 3.02 in IM using AliasExt. works a charm. I put everything in there including the skins......just did it yesterday. I love PTunes...people say quality isnt as good as Aeroplayer, I disagree
Thanks for the AvantGo Tip

I am having problems syncing.....I usually update my Avantgo wirelessly so I leave the "sync this server" box unchecked when I hotsync. Now, whenever I try to hotsync, it says on my PC that the version of Avantgo on my device is incompatible with the version I have on my computer..........I remember having these problems a long time ago when I experimented moving Avantgo.prc to Int Media.....how do you guys do it?

Ok....I had it in my Alias Ext Folder.....I am trying in the Palm Launcher folder now....it hotsynced fine after soft reset...now updating Avantgo wirelessly and then I will try hotsync again.
I really thought there wasnt much of a difference between the two (AliasExt folder and Palm Folder in Int Memory)...some have even reported that Alias Ext works better (more stable for some apps)

Great to know you got it working at last! :)
I'll try moving Ptunes as you've suggested, that would save around 300K+ ;)

Maybe it's just me, but I cannot find a place in Int. Med on my UX (using AppShelf as launcher) to put the AvantGo.prc that allows me both to sync and have an icon in launcher. I suppose I could just assign a hotkey to AvantGo, but that's not what I want!
Want that 953kb of RAM back AND functioning AG!!!

I guess you can find the folder.....it's just that appshelf isn't showing the icon huh? Why don't you try zlauncher. I know it's a pain to change launchers completely....but have you tried zlauncher?

I haven't gotten it to work with internal memory, but I use Advantage which allows you to sync channels and Advantgo to the memory card. It only uses 29k and frees up a lot of memory. If you're interested it's at www.toysoft.ca

All you do is move AvantGo.prc (around 950K) into the Palm Launcher folder in Internal Media. Couldn't be simpler. Unless you wanted to plug your product. :p ;) ...because AvantGo itself can put all the files onto the memory card for you...for free. :D
To have AvantGo put all the your Channels onto the Memory Stick, go to Options > Server Preferences > Settings > Use Card. End of story.
Sorry to ruin your sales pitch bdhu2001! :p :D

I gotta agree with winexprt......I have always saved data to MS......just to add to the info, those preferences can be found in AG Connect and not Avantgo itself.
Move AvantGo.prc to Int media in Palm, Launcher folder and then go to "AG connect" app and in settings, go to setings and tick "use card" to save info to card.

I'm also using AppShelf as a launcher, but still have AvantGo.prc places in InternalMedia. Use simple file manager (eg. ClieFiles, McFile) to move the file from RAM to InternalMedia's /Palm/Launcher/ folder.
Once the file is moved, go back into AppShelf & choose "Card" catagory, Avantgo icon is there. You can make a direct shortcut by dragging the Avantgo icon to the mini-pad of AppShelf. Should work.

Eddy - You rock. I didn't even think to look ifor the icon n the Card category, because I wasn't putting the .prc on MS! That's it, you nailed it. Thanks!

No sales pitch, I found advantage before the internal media. When Avantgo first came up with putting the it on the MS it was only for the channels, you still had to have the program on the palm in order for it to sync. How are you getting it to sync from the card? Also Netfront 3.1 takes about 2mgs how are you runing that on RAM or Rom?
