Okay. So you know how PalmOne's T3 update has you check the ROM date on your handheld by opening a new memo, drawing (all on the number side of the screen) the shortcut symbol, followed by a quick period and the number 9?

I accidently typed shortcut, period, 3 and got an entirely different date. Then I thought . . .

I wonder what you get from shortcut, period, and the other digits?

So here's the list, and what each digit returned:

0 - nothing happens
1 - T3 locks completely up; must do a soft reset (ouch! you play with fire...)
2 - Nothing happens
3 - "[no auto off]"
4 - "[steve 1648]" steve is my user name; no idea what the number is
5 - nothing happens
6 - "[9/3/03 10:28 am]" This is the one I mistook for my ROM date
7 - "[lithium ion]" Must be battery type
8 - Nothing happens
9 - Yep. The ROM date that started it all

I imagine this is old news to many. It makes me curious, though. I wonder what other little back-room shortcuts are built in?

There's a few sites out there that list some. The ones I found in casual searching were generally used in pre-OS5 units, so some of them may differ substantially on OS5 devices. I haven't tested. You might also look for Easter Eggs. There's some fun stuff.

I had the same problem on my C. After several attempts and doing the same thing, it finally gave me the information I needed to check the ROM version.

Anotrher thing that I have noticed is once in a while the icons just change The other day the icon for my DVD list program changed from the normal icon to the one with the blue circle and pen in it. I also noticed that about five other icons were the same. I have no clue as to why or how they changed or if I can get them to change back, let alone if there are any stops in between!

This is the only problem I am having with my C which I dearly love.

Former Clie NZ90 user (daen Sony anyway!!)

When I do the :shortcut: . 7, I get [LithiumIon] every time. I thought it was suposeed to flip-flop it between Lithium Ion and the other kind (alkaline or NiCd?)

That shortcut only works with the old Dragonball and earlier Palms with AA batteries so you could change the bat indicator for rechargeable AA's.
