I have caught the dreaded Invalid Network Settings disease...Whenever I try and load Netfront I see it before my eyes. Two months ago, it was working perfectly now, nothing. I can sync wirelessly, the Clie can log on to the Network without trouble. However, when I try and use Clie Mail, or Aileron it goes on, and then freezes. I have to do a soft re-set to get it to go again. Does that mean I have a defective UX-50? I have tried every possible suggestion, turned off the firewall, disable power saving, etc. Played around with all the preferences. If it had not worked in the beginning, I wouldn't be so frustrated. The Mobile Manager is up and working...any suggestions before I throw it out the window???
Hmmm, I had that problem but your's seems to be a little different... Mine would not connect to the network, it was while it was searching for the network that it would freeze... Have you added any new software lately or made any other changes to your settings? Also, when mine used to freeze a soft reset would not work, only hard resets...
Use Preferences > Network > Service: Wireless LAN
Tap <Connect>
...after the connection is established...
Use Menu > Options > View Log
Scroll down, see if the Clie is showing a "DNS address", which will likely be the same as the "Gateway address".
Then, TYPE (for example)...
ping sony.com
...and press <Enter>, to see if the DNS server can resolve sony.com to a valid IP address [160.33.26.10], and communicate with this address.

I am connected to the gateway. My DNS addresses are showing, and are correct. The router software has been upgraded. Its been shut off and re-started. The problems seems to be between the Clie, the router, and the outside. I can easily sync wirelessly, so the Clie is talking to the router but there seems to be a breakdown going any farther. Anything that remotely involves the WiFi causes the UX-50 to freeze. That makes me think there's something wrong with the Clie, or perhaps the linksys system. Any other thoughts?

did you somehow change your WEP settings?

No, the WEP settings are the same. However, two months ago, I didn't need a WEP setting, the network I was using was unsecured. My present one, does have a WEP setting to keep the neighbors out...However, how will that effect things? The Clie can connect and can wireless sync without a hitch. It just seems as though it can't go beyond this point to the outside.

I mean are you prolifant in this particular area? where you setup the WEP and tell it some other firewall settings and security stuff and the like?
While the UX50 is connected to the wireless network, can you use a PC to look at the router's settings to verify that it has assigned a valid IP address to the Clie? My Motorola router displays this information in a "DHCP Lease table", other hardware brands will use other terminology.
The IP address in the table should match what's shown in the Clie Network Log as the "Local IP address".

I have checked the DHCP Lease Table and the router has assigned the correct local IP address to what is in the Clie. However, I did find from my local laptop that when I ping the Clie address, all four packets are lost. Any ideas why that might be happening?

Well, that might be one avenue to pursue, but I haven't put anything new on. I have done several hard resets to see if I could just get back to the original out of the box Clie, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I prefer not doing any again, as it gets tiring resetting the wireless sync., etc. At least I have never had the whining sound everyone else seems to have!!
