Hello everyone,

I have 5 megs of available space on my clie but when I try to start an application from a memory stick it tells me that there is not enought space on the clie to run it. I wonder if I need to defragment the memory so that all the memory is clustered together.

Anyone knows a good application to do this ?

Thanks,
Damian

Update:

Just solved my problem. I was getting these errors on only two apps: NetFront and PicselViewer.

I moved them temporarily to MS (using ZLauncher) this did move them but must have did something that prevented the two applications from being copied back into RAM.

I deleted (uninstalled) both and then reinstalled them from scratch directly into RAM. This fixed the problem. No need to defrag anything.

I got this idea after noticing that I was able to launch an application from MS that larger than NetFront (yes there are apps that are larger :)

So to summarize,
its not a good idea to move NetFront or Picsel to MS :(

From what many have said, PowerRun will launch NetFront from the MS, once it's installed into RAM. PowerRun should help with some of your other big apps too. I don't have the NZ90, but it should be similar to the NX.

That's great. I never thought of using it since Zlauncher has this MS to RAM thing build right in, but now that you mention it, i might give it a try.

Thanks for the info.

I too tried copying NetFront to MS once, and it wouldn't copy back, same exact error. I ended up doing a hard reset with full erase and restore/sync, but turns out it's just NetFront.

I did however mount the MS with MSImport and run a defrag on the drive letter. Ok, I was bored, but it worked.

NetFront is terrible in my book:D!

Don't do too much defraging on the MS, it's possible to shorten the life span. Sony also mentions this on the data sheet I think that comes with the MS. Since the MS is an all solid state device, there is really advantage doing it. I do use Norton Disk Doctor from time to time checking for errors, especially after a crash.

I love netfront.. versus any of the others. The formatting remains the most stable, ti works with JavaScript so I can connect to my home webcams and view the video. I can get on several of my fave porn sites, our local city newspaper site. Sure the footprint is big, and it won't launch (natively) from the MS, but it's still the best for me resolution and formatting wise. Now if it just supported ActiveX.. :)

Powerrun not only copies the app, but by default copies the data and other files associated with the application...which means instead of just the 3-400k of the application PRC. For Netfront, this is almost 2.5mb!!! :)

Lot of space saving.

For those of you trying to maximize your free RAM...Move only the App to RAM and most of your conduits will still work...:)

n2ifp and kkerruish

Thanks for the suggestions on PowerRun I downloaded it yesterday and will probably register it today.
I have 64MB MS full of apps and 6Megs of avail. space on the clie WOW...

Some questions:
I know that applications that are used by other applications (for example the SUN JAVA HQ compiler) has to stay in RAM in order for other apps to find them. Is there a way to create some sort of shortcuts that would point the app to where the main app has been moved to ?

Second Problem:
If you move an app that has alarms enabled (for example Agendus) it will no longer start when the alarm expires. These apps I guess also have to stay in RAM.

Thanks

True - any app that has an alarm must stay in RAM...although I don't know if Agendus utilizes the datebk app to store its alarms in, or if has its own database....Datebk5 I believe works fine, because it does store in the datebk database...try to see what works...

As for the apps used by other apps - well, this all depends on how different things work...

Try tapping on edit and then move app only....which leaves all of it's associated stuff in RAM...including a stub pointing to the MS location of the app. Some work, some don't...

Just try the method....But I still have memory full problem when running 1M ppt file on Piscel viewer even with 8.3M RAM free space............
