View Full Version : Status Bar with Hardware buttons!!
I don't know if anybody discovered this before:
You need to get OKey. This hack supports the JogDial in every application AND now here it comes, if you activate Scroll up/down it makes also the four hardware buttons available in the status bar!! In combination with WonderSilk it is perfect. Calendar is on the battery, contacts next to the vol.control, tasks on hours and memos on minutes. This is really great.
Greetz kai!

Right and enjoy it;)!
Personally I don't use the hard buttons, I just use ZLauncher with JogPage Hack.
Everyone has a different system:).

Also, be sure to check out the status bar skins section here at ClieSource. There are some skins that can be used with Okey that place those "invisable" buttons on the status bar.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I now have Okey. But I downloaded some status bar skins but they don't display. Do I have to have an app installed to make them display. I'd appreciate help.
Thanks,
John

jdonalds,
I think you have to do a warm reset after loading a virtual grafitti skin or status bar. Do this by holding the power button while you push the reset button on the back. Your new status bar should be there.

Actually, You need to use a program called Photoskin to install status bars and new virtual grafitti's.

Thanks . Now I have another problem. When I tried PhotoSkin it loads on the NX but hangs after I hit the reset button to activate the status skin. It just sits at the sony screen and doesn't complete the reset. When I do a soft reset the status skin isn't displayed (just the normal NX version).
Can you help?
jdonalds - don't beleive everything you read.
Art126 isn't quite correct in his statement.
If you visit cbulocks homepage (see above) you will find a very useful page on creating and installing VG skins (it also applies to SB skins). To quote his page (hope you don't mind Cameron...)
There is also a free way to do this for the geeks and power users out there. All you need to do to run the VG and Status Bar skins is to install them like any other application you would install. Then perform a soft reset. To do this, unscrew the back end of your stylus and poke that into the reset button on the back of your Clie. It gets tricky when you want to switch or remove skins.
I use this method, as it doesn't rewuire the install of *another* app. Once you do it for the first, it's not difficult after that.....

T800 is correct jdonalds. I don't use photoskin or wondersilk and I have a star trek status bar and virtual grafitti area. Good luck!

Thanks folks for all your help. It sure is great to have these forums and be able to tap into the emense wealth of information out there.
I was finally able to get a new status bar installed. What I learned along the way is not all status bars will work on any given Clie. The skin I really wanted doesn't work. I did find an acceptable skin and got it working with your help.
Next I will try installing it without Photoskin just to save memory.
Thanks again all.

Jdonalds,
FYI, I use ZLauncher, it allows you to change themes of your Clie. The downside is there aren't a lot of themes for it yet. It is a nice utility and it allows you to change backgrounds easily.. Look into it, maybe it will suit your needs..

This is meant for Palm OS 4.x users right?
Does OS5 support hacks?

I used OKey for a while, but I kept running into problems entering certain characters. Sometimes I could not enter Fn or Ctrl key combinations. Wich is unfortunate beacuse I really liked the Sticky Keys functionality (press shift once and it stays on until you type another key, so no need to keep shift pressed)

Redmond: Yes I am on an NX70 and with all the help from this forum I have the hack running on OS5.
