Me:
Nicks and cuts on the flip cover, a scratch at the up scroll button (IT WAS THERE WHEN I BOUGHT IT), and 3 on the back (1/4" each).
This thing isn't standing up pretty well to everyday use...

Nothing wrong with mine so far. I've had it for about 3 days and I'm pretty rough on PDAs. I just throw it in one of my pockets where it often gets a little banged up.
Looking at it so far, all I've got on it is fingerprints.
I didn't think I would like the new look and the plastic case, but it does have a certain sleek, gloss-black, death-star-conference-room sort of charm.

I have the habit of washing my hands with soap now. That's how I prevented the problem. The SJ33 is a grease magnet.

3 weeks, and not a single scratch on mine. in fact, it's holding up better than my SJ30 did.
i do get fingerprints galore, but i just buff it with my shirt every now and then, no problem.
i'm actually using the lanyard for the first time ever. i always hated lanyards, but this one comes in quite handy, especially listening to mp3's.

One of the ways I protected my IPAQ cover was to put a couple of the screen savers (left over from an old PDA that didn't cover the new screen size) on the cover lid. It has protected my cover from those scratches and fingerprints quite nicely. Had had them on for almost a year and still looks good.
Just my two cents!

I was concerned about the durability of the case when the SJ33 was first announced. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me to produce a handheld that featured an integrated hard cover with a easily scratched shiny plastic finish. I think Sony would have done better to copy the textured plastic similar to that found on the back of Palm's m130 ... that's one tough looking surface.
Sony does produce some really nice toys but it's a shame that they often seem to put form ahead of function.
I've got mine in an old Palm leather 'slipper' slide-in; no scratches and provides room for the earbuds as well.

i just ripped off the black slimy cover and went with an old palm 100 case myself fits just ok defeats whole purpose of cover though notice sony frequently can screw up just one little thing that can really just bug you
I just slip it into the soft (nylon?) pouch that came with my Oakley sunglasses. Fits like a glove! Also, the pouch is good for removing fingerprints without scratching as its made for cleaning the delicate lenses of the sunglasses ;)

Hey, why not put one of the Write Rights and put them on the SJ33? Would that not help with the smudging on the case?

Eeek..I shudder to think what the SJ33 looks like with a screen protector slapped on the protective cover.
Just think of it this way, if it gets scratched, you can buy a new cover at Sony.

That is why I love the best buy warranty, when mine gets to banged up I will return it for a new one.
I DROPPED my Clie, and the cover BROKE. :(
I thought about replacing it, but I superglued it instead. Now it looks like something the Road Warrior would use!!!
Maybe I should have used, Duct Tape!!!:D

I have a fair amount of little scratches on the cover, but it doesn't bother me. After all, it's a cover! I can always buy a replacement in a few months if it gets really bad.
I imagine some 3rd party might make a replacement cover made from metal or different plastic. As well as the full hard cases, etc.

Get a G2 screen protector. They work very well and I have not had a digitizer problem at all. Also, get a wallet style case to protect the entire unit.

After a couple of more weeks, how has everyone's SJ33s fared as far as scratches go?
jimroad - I'm assuming that the SJ-series G2 fits the SJ33?

My sj33 looked bad about 1 week after having it. The smudges and scratches on the outside made it look like I've had if for a couple of years or something. The screen still looks good. I don't use the screen protectors on the screen, but so far no scratches. Still a good little unit.

Still no scratches yet. I have had mine for around one month now. Wow, it seems like yesterday ... Quite pleased with the unit.
