Hi,
I recently purphased an used T665C from eBay. It is a great unit except I couldn't get the mp3 working. When I tapped on the button, I could see the song title scolling. But the time counter stays no change.
I tried a few fixes but still didn't help much; including reformatted the MS, uninstall and reinstall all Sony softwares, use an external card reader to load the MS and more.
I am fully exhasusted and hope some one out there can give me some help.
Thanks in advacen.
William.

Are you sure you have the MP3 recorded in the correct format? Do a search here on MP3 bitrates. I don't recall the bitrate limitiations offhand but, if it's recorded at the wrong bitrate, the MP3 either will cause an error or just sit there and not play.

T665 claims it can play anything from 32kbps upwards.
Realistically it works best from 56kbps to about 256kbps.
The files have to be 44.1kHz, but it does not mind Mono/Stereo/JointStereo or CBR/VBR files.
If the format is wrong it will complain by saying the files is copy protected or corrupt.
Need more NFO on what you have to be able to fix 'tho.
So what, when you load AudioPlayer it starts up and the song title scrolls, but when you hit Play nothing happens? Is the Clie still responsive? What is the volume level set to?

Hi,
Thanks so much for all the inputs. I checked my mp3 files, they are recorded in 44.1.kHz and in either 112kbps or 128kbps. From what I have read in other posts, these 2 bitrates should work.
Might be I didn't explain my problem in detail in my first post. What happens is when I tap on the play button. The title and the artist's name both scrolling. But there is no sound comes out at all. The song time display stays at 0:00.
I read some posts saying this might be the filename or the artist name is too long. So, I rename them to just 1 character. Also, I just load one song into the MS. But it still doesn't play. Of course, the volumn is at high and the hold button is off.
I also reformatted the MS back to FAT standard a few times. Tried to import song with both MSIMPORT and a 6-in-1 card reader. These all seems not to work.
Is there a way to reinstall the audio player? I just can't find this program anywhere, no even in Sony's web site.
Thanks.
William.

The Clie Audio Player in in ROM so there's nothing to install. At this point, you should try a soft reset and see if this fixes things. If not, take a good backup and then do a hard reset. It's possible that the Palm OS has gotten corrupted and a hard reset should fix it.

I have seen this problem on my unit too some times and a soft reset fixes it. Also make sure you do not have a variable rate song.

Hi,
I finally get the audio player working with a hard reset; soft reset doesn't work. But it failed again after I did a resync from my backup. So, there must be some conflict between audio player and one of my installed applications. But at least, I know the player work. All I have to do now is to zero down the one that causes the problem.
Is there any 3rd party installer/uninstaller program that I could use that will install the program directly without doing a re-sync. It could be much faster.
Thanks again for all the help.
William. :-)

Interesting... I have heard (and experienced) a semi-similar problem with Sound Util but never heard of it before with AudioPlayer...
Oh well, anyway, try this:
1) Sync up your PDA to the state you want it (Presumably with the non-working AudioPlayer)
2) Get a program that can edit Preferences; Filez (http://nosleepsoftware.sourceforge.net/download.html) seems very popular
3) Install and Load Filez, then click on View Preferences.
4) Find all the preferences for AudioPlayer (MSAp) and delete them (Should only be one, but see if there are more and delete them too)
5) Soft Reset your T665 then try AudioPlayer again...
If it still don't work, give us a list of all stuff you have installed!
Also, did it arrive from eBay pre-loaded with software? If so, what softwares?

Hi Cyker,
Thanks for your post. I downloaded Filez and it is a wonderful software. I am able to pinpoint the program that caused the problem. It is the Chinese software that displays the Chinese characters. Furthermore, I also find out that audio player can't detect audio file with a long filename. All I have to do is to rename them and it works fine.
But anyway, I have my T665C running smoothly now.
Thanks again for all.
