View Full Version : Crash During Hotsync When SD Card Inserted

Hi all,

I am having a very strange and frustrating problem on my T3. This morning when I attempted to hotsync, it crashed midway through. I restarted everything, then tried again. This time it worked up until the hotsync manager was closing. After a long period of troubleshooting, what I have figured out is it only crashes when my SD card is inserted. When the card is out, everything syncs fine. I have:
1. Shut down and restarted the hotsync mgr
2. Shut down and restarted my PC
3. Hard reset and restored all data from last sucessful hotsync
4. Reformatted my SD card

Every time it crashes. It gives me one of those crash screens that has nothing but the (nonfunctioning) reset button. And, the hotsync manager continues to hang until I pull the handeld off the cradle, then it will close.

I'm stumped. Does anyone have an idea for me?

I found the culprit--AppLock. When I set a password for the app, even if it was not enabled, the hotsync error would occur. If no password is set, then it will hotsync fine. Of course, not setting a password would defeat the purpose of the software, so that is not really a solution :D.

I am sure there are more than a few of you that downloaded that app this week (considering it was one of the freebies PalmGear was giving away :) ). Is anyone else experiencing this problem? And...why it would occur only when a card is inserted it beyond me as well.

Is anyone using this software? The documentation on it is sparse-to-none, so I'd be interested to hear if others have gotten it to work on a T3.

I had the same symptom. My T3 crashed with the non-function reset button on screen when I would insert it into the cradle, before I could even press the hotsync button. If I did manage a hotsync the unit would crash as soon as I pulled it out of the cradle.

I am not using Applock. I do have multiple SD cards, but don't recall if the same one was installed. I could only get around it with a hard reset. Even 1 by 1 reinstall of apps seemed to go well but the issue would come back regardless of last app installed. Each time I thought I had a culprit the problem returned without that app installed.

I've been ok for a few weeks now. All the same apps are installed but I am not frequently changing the T3 DIA. All my trouble seemed to start with the introduction of a new DIA skin. Probably coincidence since I had used many in the past without issue, but I'm playing it safe for now.

Thanks for the replies.

Actually, several of the free apps I downloaded from PalmGear's promotional have been pretty unstable (Robot Panic comes to mind...every time I lost it crashed).

I have a T/E. When I swap SD cards to backup, and then re-insert the non-backup card, I get the same nonfunctioning reset (WHAT is the purpose of that?!) crash screen, and have to soft reset. Every time. I've tried reinserting with the T/E off, with it on - doesn't matter.

Though I downloaded applock, I think I'm going to hold off on installing it - sounds like it could be more trouble than it's worth.

wildcelt: I have the exact same problem as you and have, like you, determined that it is applock. I think that it might have something to do with the enhanced security that the T3 has. I received a reply from the developer saying that they are investigating the problem. I like the funtionality of the app and hope they get it worked out.

Yeah, ... I've run into this one also (AppLock crashing during HotSync touching the SD card while inserted). For a while I thought it was the PalmaryClock Screensaver that I had installed and deactivated that app. Turns out that as good as AppLock is, constantly causing SoftResets during HotSyncs is more than just a LITTLE disconcerting.

I just sent an email this morning for exact same problem, but i never thought its from SD card. my T3 hangs right after i start the hotsync, so i don't know if it access the SD.

But sure it is from AppLock. uninstall it and everythings back to normal.

I hope they get a handle on the problem. It's actually a neat program, so I'd like to be able to use it!

OK, everyone cross their fingers!!! There is an Applock update that was released today. I installed and enabled it. I have hotsynced a couple of time with no problems. Let's see what happens! :)

I wish I had found this thread two days ago. I downloaded/bought AppLock and never put 2 and 2 together that it was the cause of my T3 hotsync nightmares. After giving up and doing a hard reset, it still occured because of course the backup reinstalled it. So I had to do a full Hard Reset and reinstall all my programs, set up preferences, enter Serial Numbers, what a MAJOR pain. I know there is an update but it appears a lot of T3 customers experienced this issue, how could this get through Alpha testing let a lone Beta testing. I am going to wait and see what people say before going forward.

Hooray! 1.02 is working for me as well. I have not had a crash since it was installed.
