i checked out the TJ37 and the TJ27. I like everything about the TJ27 except for the fact that it cant play real sound so i took a look at the 37. Everything is perfect, except that it has wi-fi, something that i will not use frequently sicne i dont have a wireless network or know of a public hotspot. So which one should i get so i can get the most of my money and still be happy. Or is there another soloution?

You can always turn the WiFi off if you don't need it.

I can sell you my 37 for about the same price as the 27. The 37 can play music via Areoplayer and pocket tune, WMA, MP3 and OGG. You can also play movies. The 37 has a headphone jack so that you can actually listen to the audio in great quality. The TJ27 has no audio headphone jack, so that means listening to audio through a crumby speaker on the back. Plus 37 comes with picsel veiwer.
So basically if you get a 27 you are missing out on WIFI and MP3 player functionality and movies with good audio becuase of the use if the headphonejack.
It's only a couple of dollars more. A TJ37 goes for about $240+, a TJ27 goes for $170+, $199 MSRP. Think about it, buying a TJ27 and a MP3 player will cost you more than $240, plus you'd have to carry around 2 devices. If you buy the TJ37, you save money PLUS you get the option to surf wirelessly when you come across a HotSpot as a bonus. It's a completely new experience I tell you that, the first time I used my TJ wirelessly, I couldn't believe that I could connect to the internet, go to PalmGear's site, download VeriChat, and connect to talk to my friends on MSN, all done right in the palm of my hand! I was baffled, and you would be too. Besides, wireless routers are cheap (802.11b's that is) when its the right time, I got mine at CC for $4.99!
TJ37's Bottom Line: Go with the TJ37, you won't be disappointed.
PS - You should always buy a case and screen protectors with your PDA and slip everything on once you get it, you should do this with all the new PDA's because PDA's now tend to get scratched easily. You also need a Memory Stick in order to listen to music, as with all PDA's. A typical 128MB memory stick goes for $35+ and Bump is offering a 512MB MS for a VERY low price. E-Mail him if your interested!

oh yea, one more question. one main thing that is preventing me from getting the tj37 is the movie player and its supported formats. i heard that it requires kinoma producer 2 (30 bucks) so i can view my own movies/videos. is this true, or can i just use my encoders and encode it to mpg-1 video or to the proper settings (320x320 resolutions, 15 or 30 fps, etc)?

Hey guys,
Doesn't the Image Convertor that the 37 comes with convert mpeg-1,-2 files into a format that Kinoma Player 2 can read? I haven't tried it yet, but that's what i've heard.
Also, in my opinion, if you want to play MP3s and have a good battery life, i suggest you get the TJ27 and a decent MP3 player. I don't understand why people buy a PDA only for the music and MP3 playback features. It's such a waste of money. For $250, you could get yourself an iPOD Mini, and that's a helluva lot cheaper than getting a TJ37 and a 512 MB or 1 GB MS just for music alone. honestly, it's hard to find people with PDAs who only use it for office work and the like. the only game i have is Yo's Texas HOld'Em which i bought from my cousin for $5, and i haven't even put it on my 37 yet.

I have tried converting with the Image converter and I could never get it to work with Kinoma. And I use my CLIE as a Multimedia device. Music, Video, Images, Games, Camera, Data storage so that I can always connect to a PC w/Data import, Wtach and a Calculator and oh yeah to type out Essays when I am at school. All I did was email myself all the drivers for DATA import. Just install them in the drivers folders. Its great. Being able to play MP#'s and surf the web is a nice extra little feature. Even though I have never tried the WIFI yet. I need to get a wireless router.
I am serious though I can give you a Killer DEAL on a Highly protected, Cared and lightly used 37. I have used a screen protector ever since i got it. I have everything that it came with, even the graffiti card. I am very desperate to sell it.
DUDE YOU'RE GETTING A DEAL!

The only complain I have for my TJ37 is it consumes a lot of battery life when using the WIFI. I think I have used every advanced features this handheld has, WIFI (at home only), KINOMA, MP3 (aeroplayer) and others, including wireless sync with my pc and I am very satisfied so far. Even though the WIFI, uses a lot of battery life, I haven't been to a point where I totally, I think the worst I had was 40% battery life left. I don't know, but if your handheld is fully charge when you start using your WIFI and still drain it.....gosh I don't know what will happen to your vision after a year. Text are small on the NETFRONT browser. I love my CLIE TJ37.

I've had my TJ37 only a brief time, but I can compare it to the other 3 wifi capable handhelds that I've used in the past few years (Win CE/PPC). The TJ37 is the same or better on wifi caused power drain as the other units I've used.
The TJ37 price is around $250 now online. This is a bargain. If you do get a used one for less, even better.
You might not use wifi now or have plans to do so, but if you have a chance to use it at all, you will likely become very attached to the feature for times when you might be near a public access point. I travel and find wifi to be very handy.
You could look for a TJ-35, while not in ctalog, you can find it in some shops
It's simmilar to TJ-37 apart from having no Wi-Fi or cammera, but you have MP3 support. And is cheaper than TJ-27

Hi guys,
the only advanced feature i make use of is the integrated Wifi on my 37. It does seem to drain the battery big time, so that's why i keep it plugged in when i'm online at home. however, this battery drain is common throughout the entire handheld market. my brother recently bought a SDIO card for his HP iPAQ 1910. the iPAQ lasts easily a week and a half with heavy usage before a charge up. however, after 4 hours of Wifi usage, his battery dropped down from 100% (fully charged, right off the adaptor) to 27%,which is pretty similar to the 37 after a few hours of Wifi. i think that Wifi will drain almost any handheld battery just the same.
so IMP, having Wifi requires the owner to give up hopes for good battery life, and having good battery life means giving up hope for Wifi and other advanced features like that.

I HAVE to change that signature... I've recieved numerous PM's about it, basically I have a problem with Sony itself, not the TJ37. As you can see, the sentence is highlighted in red only up to Sony and if you took the time to click on the highlighted text, you'd see why I'm mad at Sony.
oh yea, one more question. one main thing that is preventing me from getting the tj37 is the movie player and its supported formats. i heard that it requires kinoma producer 2 (30 bucks) so i can view my own movies/videos. is this true, or can i just use my encoders and encode it to mpg-1 video or to the proper settings (320x320 resolutions, 15 or 30 fps, etc)?
Sony bundles the TJ37 with a modified version of Kinoma Viewer. It comes with a .MQV (QuickTime) codec that allows you to play movies converted with Image Converter (only converts from some formats though [*.QT, *.AVI, *.MPG, and *.MOV]) also bundled with the TJ37. Movies must be moved to the Memory Stick through the Image Converter though. Kinoma Producer converts movies to its own Kinoma format allowing users to transfer movie files to the Internal Memory. There aren't many movie players out there. If you feel like converting movies to your specified format, you should use a shareware program called MMPLAYER (http://www.mmplayer.com). It's still a bit buggy, but supports most of the formats. Theres also POCKET DVD (http://www.pqdvd.com/) for viewing ripped DVD files. Memory Stick required.
Also, in my opinion, if you want to play MP3s and have a good battery life, i suggest you get the TJ27 and a decent MP3 player. I don't understand why people buy a PDA only for the music and MP3 playback features. It's such a waste of money. Some people like the option to listen to music while organizing their day, or writing up their ToDo List, or surfing the web. The Jack also allows people to listen to sound in movies and stuff. People buy CLIEs and PDA's for a variety of reasons, in your case, you use it mainly for work. People don't want to carry arround a date book, a memo pad, a portable DVD player, MP3 player, pen and pencil, MP3 player, GameBoy Advanced SP, an Atari System, a NES system, etc. all at once, so they go with a PDA.
The only complain I have for my TJ37 is it consumes a lot of battery life when using the WIFI. First off, if you love it so much, why not register with 1src? :D To the issue: WiFi drains battery no matter what your using, a PDA or a Laptop. It's no surprise, considering your recieving and sending data wirelessly. I think battery life is actually pretty good. I get about 2 hours of WiFi, 2+ hours of music, and 1+ day with on and off gaming/PIM use.
