OK, bear with me because I am an extreme novice when it comes to computer technology. I heard that I can watch cartoons like the family guy and simpsons on my clie. How do I go about doing all of this. I have an NR70v, an HP laptop, and a 56K modem. What is the software and additional info that I need. If there is a good site that breaks it all down to lamens terms that would be great as well, Thanks for the support, this site and my clie take up most of my free time (I love it :D )

Well your biggest weakness is going to be your 56K modem. Unless you already have all the source files (MPG,AVI,MOV) that you want to convert, you're going to need to download them from somewhere. These are LARGE files in most cases, which means you're going to spend a lot of time downloading instead of converting.
Also, how old is your laptop? Older laptops are lacking in processing power, which is gonna slow down the conversion of larger files, such as full episodes. However, newer laptops are pretty much on par with desktops in terms of power.
Now, to the meat and potatoes...you'll need to purchase a program called Kinoma Producer. It can be found at www.kinoma.com, for $30. It's well worth it, trust me. You'll also need Kinoma Player, a free download from the same site. Mind you, you only need Producer if you want to "produce" your own videos. You can download videos that have already been converted for your NR70V, from sites such as www.mjpd.com (shameless plug). In which case you'll just need the Player installed on your Clie in order to view them.
Long story short: Producer will convert an MPG,AVI, or MOV into a Clie-formatted video. So find your source files first. Open up Producer, and add your source files to the list of files to be converted. Configure your settings (we can cover that later), and hit convert! Then you just drag and drop your converted movie onto your memory stick, open up Kinoma Player, and sit back with a very small bucket of popcorn and enjoy! That should get you started for now... Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

The clie-format is .moi correct. I have a NX-70v. The question I have is, "How do I take a video that I shot with my clie camera, and convert it into an .avi or some other format that can be viewed on my computer. Basically, I want to be able to shoot a little video clip with my clie and then be able to E-mail it to friends who will want to be able to watch it in Windows.
Thanx in advance for any help.

Gordion Knot is a series of apps that convert from DVD to avi. Has anyone used these?
I spent about 4 hours today converting and loading it on my clie and it is stuck in a loop and won't start. The avi that I dropped into the Sony's Image Converter didn't have any sound even though I used virtualdub.
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I could try.

All you need is quicktime 6.0 which will permit you to view your videos after having changed their extensions to ".MOV". If you rather use .AVI then you must get Quicktime PRO 6.0 and export your file in .avi. You should of course rename them first as .MOV. Very simple actually...

Thanx. So I should just change them to .MOV before I e-mail them to friends and as long as they have quicktime then they should be able to view them...kewl.
