K, I figure instead of bothering other posts, I'll just let on here on whats being going on.  A quick recap:

1st unit: 5-10 shots battery drains way to fast.  by end of work day, and taking about 10 flash shots it was at 30%. exchanged.   Battery door doesn't seem to seal nicely but nothing wrong(kinda like a warped door)

2nd unit: WAY BETTER 20-30shots and end of day was around 50%.  But by the third day, it went down hill.  It would start draining for simple things like using the calculator and such.  in 5 mins I could loose like 3%.  So by the end of a work day (maybe total 30mins useage) I would be going home with 40-30% and that was with less pictures. Again, Battery door doesn't seem to seal nicely but nothing wrong(kinda like a warped door)

3rd unit: Problems so far :

A)battery door on this one has the same gap but also near the top so it doesn't close all the way.  when opened you can see one of the hinges bent a little.  I tried to unbend it but its solid.  Must've come from factory this way. And with the gap, the door can get snagged on clothes.

B) Battery cycles.  I'm up to 4.  But I only charged it twice.  Tonight while at work, I checked it and it was at 3.  Then it fliped and went to 4??

C) I took 2 pictures without flash. and Turned on the camera app once more for 30 seconds.  And used the unit at work for again around 30mins total time.  I'm at 60%.  I would not consider this a problem with the camera.  I really didn't use it? Am I going nuts already?  This is kinda low for something that wasn't taking any shots right? Oh and just now I took 7 flash shots before the flash warning came on.  Two minutes later battery is now 50% for those 7 shots. 10% loss.

As it is now, battery seems to be weaker than the one in my 2nd unit when it was working, but the battery door is pretty bad, I can just see it snagging in my pocket.  Do you think I should return it yet again??

Oh and the way I use my unit is as follows: 50% brightness, BT on, IR off. Not much more you can set.  Becuase of all this problems, I havn't even played any games on this unit.  Just used my calender and calculator.

I'm at a loss at what to do/try.  If I could come home with at least 75% battery with no pictures and 65% battery with 20-30pics with flash from work(work is 8 hour day) I would be happy.  Some of you are capable of this, right?

starstreak,

Hey, stick with it. I found that after 3 or 4 days, my battery got much much better. At first I would see quick drains using the cam app. I keep mine charging anytime I am at home or in the office. I don't worry about battery cycles. Yesterday I was out most the morning. I took about 10 pictures, recorded a 50 minute meeting, viewed my pictures, used my PIM apps, and had 95% battery left.

Good Luck

K, while I'm willing to stick with the camera, should I be worried about the battery door? Part of it really doesn't close well. if I knew how to post a picture here I would

15 days?? Woah thats higher than the 12 days I saw posted.

Here's a small clip on what Sony sent to me about my NZ90 battery life.
You can use the SONY CLIE handheld for about fifteen days with a full charge. However, SONY recommends you charge your handheld a little everyday. It only takes a few minutes to generate a full charge if you do it everyday. However, you can save battery power by not using the backlight function or by shortening the auto-shutoff timer. The CLIE handheld is designed to turn itself off after a set period of inactivity. Follow the steps below to adjust the Auto-off after timer.

starstreak, I think you should write an email to SONY tech support regarding your incidents and hear what they have to say.

Oh I have. They are prancing around the question with automated responses for now..

I'm at 100% battery now. With backlight off it says 11 hour use. With it on at lowest its 8 hours. And with it at 50% its 5:08min. And battery dropped to 99%. In the 2 minutes it took me to try each settings.  BT was off and so was IR.

I am still jealous of those getting more hours. :)

stick with it. I keep mine in the cradle when I'm not using it, up to 10 hours showing on the battery meter now

but at what setting? what is it if you turn BT on and backlight for 50%. After 1minute, does it still say 10 hours off the charger or 5 hours?

Hahahahehehe I'm going nuts. that battery door problem? its settled. It broke. I was showing compusa about the door and when one of the sales rep said nah it'll hold, he pushed on the door and it came unhinged. Needless to say they had to swap it out AGAIN!. AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading the box, I can see they are all coming from the same batch. The serical # are all in order. I'm charging this unit up now. Again, dead battery. This unit had better work, I have to mail in the rebate for the memory card.

I keep the backlight setting at it's lowest setting, bright enough for me to see quite well. What is it with you and those battery doors? Mine's flush and well seated. Dont come visit mine! LOL

markga-

even with this new one, its a little warped, but at least it closes.  I can't see using the screen at lowest setting.  It makes it usable indoors but still dim.  Try at 50% and see if your battery is at 5hours at that is the average.  I doubt if even you will hit 13 hours that some users got at the same brightness.

you have no luck do you

you're right! at 50% I'm now getting 4hrs 44min with a full charge

SprSaiyan8- This is the worst luck I had with a pda. Normally would switch brands by now but I really want to stick this one out.

markga- You have a "normal" unit. Just watch and see if you can live a whole day or two or three without charging. If you can, you have a good unit.

Note: 2 or 3 days without charging is using hardly any of the camera mode as that will kill the battery in a day.

Haha.  I guess I'll find out once I get home. Here's something, on the first charge(I'm guessing thats what it is for this battery) it will not tell you how long to charge.

Just shows how much we love our Clie's :D I'd be concerned with the door tho, is the new one ok? I thought my NX was bad, but I use it for 3-4 hours a day and the lowest I got was like 15-20 percent or so. However, that was due to me leaving the screen on 50-60% brightness WHILE VOICE RECORDING for almost an hour. That was dumb. Now I can go all day and have it above 50% playing MP3s, takin pics, and takin notes in class. Not bad for such a powerful device. And in case I do run low on juice, I have the battery extender I got off of ebay to give me a boost :)

Y'all are scarin the heebies out of me with all this battery stuff. My 90 is being shipped as I wait.. and this is just driving me crazy reading all this. Hopefully I can get it charged up good and not worry. but I sit next to my cradle at work all day so it's easy to recharge.

Nice Prelude, Import. (Honda fan too)

The never-ending proliferation of battery threads is the reason that I've not been around much lately.

While it's obviously an important issue to others, to me it's not. My battery dilemna is long gone and I've moved on to learning and maximizing as much of the unit as I can learn to do.

Once the battery obsession dies down, I'm sure I'll return to being a more active participant around here. Until then, I've been cheating on Cliesource with other Clie web groups.

littlesix- don't let me scare you away. I'm just telling what happened to me. If your battery is working ok, then even better! Please tell me/us here. At least you didn't have to go through...um 4 units!.LOL

Starstreak, if I had a problem directly with you - I'd deal directly with you ;) I'm not so timid that I'd post a vague reply in the hopes that you'd catch the drift.

I'm just tired of scanning through the threads and all the talk is about the battery. Just for the hell of it I did a search on "battery" in the NZ forum. The grand total? 143 threads. I don't feel like reading all that, and it's too much to wade through.

I'm still peering through threads that aren't battery-related, but there's just too few of them to hold my interest at the moment.

I know this is an important topic to those of us that are having battery issues, but it's just too much of the same thing over and over for my taste. It'll die down, and I'll make this my primary source of information again but I've been browsing on other sites. They're not as "lively" as this one ;), but they seem to have a more diverse information base than we do here at present.

If something on those site is good reading, post 'em here. I'm new to palm so anything new would be interesting.

Littlesix,

Good to hear that someone else is trying to find other Clie threads.  I guess I am in the same boat now.   I think the battery thing is getting as old as the "brick" posts, "fat jokes" and battery jokes.  Oh well.

hmm, starstreak on a normal day I would use the organizer part, I wouldn't be using the cam except on special occasions (stuck teaching middle school). But the whole battery door thing really has my perplexed, I don't have any bulges there

At least this unit seems to be doing semi ok. I'm at 62% battery. Only used the camera once to take two pictures without flash. I still think the battery score should be a bit higher, but ah well.
