View Full Version : I think that my TH-55/E1 is DEAD

I bought the TH-55 on 26 June. It's now 13 July and it has completely died on me. No hard reset, no soft reset, nothing. The Bluetooth light is the only thing that is on.
Called support - they suggested that I wait for the battery to run down and then try a hard reset. Claim that it's a software issue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Crisis averted. Battery died, now recharging and everything seems to be working! :)
Hope it doesn't happen again.

What was the last thing you installed and do you (or Sony) think it was the problem? I (members) want and need to know, please.

The last thing? I'm not too sure. However, I did have to do a hard reset prior to the unrecoverable crash I experienced.
One thing might be that in my haste to start using the TH55 since I had just replaced my aging NR70/V - I just hotsynced, forgetting that it would start to install all of my old NR70 Palm OS 4.1 files onto a Palm OS 5 unit. After the penultimate hard reset before the fall, I removed the LM/Backup folder in order to create a new one. However, I can't imagine that this would have been the cause.
Strange thing is that the hard reset happened when I pressed the bluetooth icon while in the Data Inport app.
In a nutshell, I'm not sure what happened. No new files installed, didn't drop it, and it wasn't expose to any H2O.
Just hope it doesn't happen again.

I had the same problem.
Perhaps because i made 2 soft reset too much rapidly.
It seems that the only solutions are :
- wait until the battery is discharged. (may be long)
- Deconnecting and reconnecting the battery
- Making a hard reset (caution, to make an hard reset on the TH55, you have to press one of the button wich is under the screen, near the roller, in the same time of the power on)
For me, the third issue has fonctionned.

Really? For my TH55 the instructions say that you need to hold down the power button, use the stylus to press the reset button (hole) to the right of the hotsync port, and then keep the power button held down for a further 3 seconds after having pressed the reset button. After this a message comes up saying do you want to erase all data, that is the point when I press the left jog dial button to say yes.
It's a pretty uncomfortable operation to keep the power button held down while pressing the reset button (which requires some precision and force, at least on my TH55) so I'd be interested is there is another way other than the one described in my manual.

What i said is false :
"- Making a hard reset (caution, to make an hard reset on the TH55, you have to press one of the button wich is under the screen, near the roller, in the same time of the power on)"
What JulianL said is right :
"you need to hold down the power button, use the stylus to press the reset button (hole) to the right of the hotsync port, and then keep the power button held down for a further 3 seconds after having pressed the reset button. After this a message comes up saying do you want to erase all data, that is the point when I press the left jog dial button to say yes."
You have to press the left button wich is under the screen, near the roller ONLY to confirm the Hard Reset.
That's what i wanted to focus, because if you try to confirm the reset with one of the button of the front, the reset is not effective.
I apologize myself

Well I'd imagine it is difficult, for good reason. Hard resets are not something that you should do all the time for obvious reasons. :)
