Now that Sony Clie may be no more, what's your next "move"?

I have been wanting to upgrade to TH55 or TJ37 but was taking my time to decide. Then the news from Sony came along. Now shopkeepers told me ppl who got themselves a TH55 are very lucky.

My friend (IT guy) told me if Clie is to be no more, then there will be no more technical support as well. Urgh...I don't wanna move to Palm because that would mean that my MS and chargers would be useless. :(

yup, face it that's sony for you. Great while it lasted but now you, me and others have a drawer of useless junk once our current clie's flake out.

I'm going to wait until Christmas, or at least after Black Friday. Mabye the T|4 will be out soon, or some other Garnet or Cobalt Palms

Just read abt Cobalt today. It is so much more "restricted" than Garnet, it's stated to be only good for smartphone manufacturers? That really puts me off Cobalt. Anyway, just downloaded the Cobalt Simulator and I will have a go and see how it looks like.

Dunno yet. My T615 is fine for me, though it's starting to look a little worn and I'd like Wi-Fi. I was thinking of buying a TJ37 because it should just run for years, just like my previous Palms/Clies. But given Sony shutting down developer access -- another insult to fairly poor customer support -- makes me think that's just asking for trouble. Better to stay with Palm. I don't want to move to Pocket PC.

I was running Plant Tycoon on the Palm Garnet Simulator and boy, it looks so good on Garnet. I almost rushed out to get myself a T|E, TJ37 or TH55 just to be able to play Plant Tycoon with HiRes.

But going back to to what sdsdsd said, would it be asking for trouble to go for TJ37/ TH55 after so much negative news from Sony? Pls help me analyse the situation here. :(

I look at it this way: no developer support means that very few people will be developing anything Clie-specific. That might not be so bad for applications in general. But any problems the Sony APIs introduce, or any integration issue that comes up ("Gee, this app works fine with Datebook, but I wish it worked with my Clie Organizer!") will get almost no attention. Similarly, if a Microsoft bug fi^h^h^h^h^h^h Service Pack breaks a conduit or Sony's version of Palm Desktop, and Sony is no longer supporting the Clie, where do you go?

I love my Palm because it just plain works. Very little drama, very little fuss. I don't need to make my PDA a "project." If I wanted that, I would have bought a Pocket PC.

I guess I was thinking more in terms of hardwares, no accessories available if say my charger became faulty or my battery just died and so on. I guess with the issues of battery, ppl normally just buy a new pda?! That's what I was told when I upgraded from SJ30 to SJ33 and was planning to buy a new battery for the SJ30 before I pass it on to my bf.

Thing is as a UX50 owner, a TH55 is hardly considered an 'upgrade'. :D

The only real option(s) I see for myself in the future as far as a PalmOS device is concerned are:
Buy whatever OS6 Clie Sony decides to put out...and of course learn Japanese so I'm able to use it. :p
-or- Buy a Tungsten T|4.

...option # 2 looks really good! ;) :D

...option # 2 looks really good! ;) :DLol, actually I was very tempted by my colleague's T|E because up til now I only have a SJ33, so I would drool over even a T|E. But the problem with switching to say T4 is I will have no use for my MS and desktop charger and so on. What am I gonna do with them?

Stick 'em in your shiny new Sony digital camera! lol :p :D

I know what you mean. Thank God I didn't invest too heavily in MS's. I only have 2 (128MB & 64MB), and one of those was given to me. :D

Thing is, I don't plan on throwing my UX50 in the trash the minute the T|4 comes out, so my memory sticks will always work in my UX...which I plan on keeping & using until it drops dead! :p

Well, I dunno abt you but once I have a T4, T|E2 or TH55, I will start moving all my stuffs onto the new PDA. I wouldn't wanna carry two around. So the other one naturally will be redundant. I can always play games on it but I do not need a 128 MS for games playing, do I? So that's my dilemma. I guess I can always pass on my 128 x 2 MS to my bf who still likes his SJ30 very much. ;)

Btw, my bf is very impressed with TH55. But he is not so big on gadgets. I like TH55 just don't like its length.

The newly announced Sony Ericsson P910 smartphone is an option. That's if you're not completely turned off by Sony.

Sony has done everything in its power recently to completely turn me off.

But you KNOW if they came out with a UX70 I'd be there in a New York minute! lol :D

Lol! Winexprt, ur rxn is the same as ClieKun who I have not been seeing in the forums lately. May be his baby has finally arrived. :)

Anyway, back to Sony Ericsson P910. Ummm...I like it but it's not the same because it's on Symbian OS. Also I am not so sure if an all-in-one device is a good idea anymore. I used to wanna wait for such a device. But after I joined ClieSource and got enlightened a lot by many issues, I realised battery life is a big issues when it comes to an all-in-one device. And a phone drains the battery like nothing. Unless they did something on the battery life for P910. Well, that's my 2 cents. :D

This is the slippery slope we've been on since Palm introduced the V series and companies other than Palm brought their PDAs to market. Used to be simple: pilot 1000/pilot 5000/PalmPilot/PalmPilot Professional/III/IIIx/IIIxe/IIIc -- they all took AA batteries and the same cradle. Now everything is different. Not that I mind the change necessarily -- USB has it all over a serial port, and it's nice not to have to recycle batteries every 4-6 weeks. But it was simpler "back in the day." Just the price of new technology, I guess.

well, I for one, am going to wait 12 more months, when my TH55 (yeah, I miss the length of my Nr70 also, but then I decided length wasn't as important as how I used it). I'll start evaluating whats on the market, where things are going, and sometime in the next 3-6 months following, upgrade yet again. :)

Palm IIIxe->NR70->TH55->??

just like wives.... kidding!! kidding!!!! :-)
I am on the 2 year upgrade plan. :D

I don't know about the above....
Now that Sony basically screwed over some of their most loyal customers to their products ..PPC is looking mighty good in compards to yawnOne..err palmOne.

Based on Sony announcements, how can we recommend any Sony PDA. If you dont use the keyboard, you would love the TH55. Personally, I am still happy with it.

Having seen the Sony Ericsson P910 at the product launch last week I can't recommend it. Symbian is a good OS for mobile phones, but less so for PDAs (IMO). The only enhancements over the P900 are a few extra software trials, 64MB of inbuilt memory (which IS a plus) and a qwerty keyboard on the inside flip. The buttons on the keyboard are so tiny that only a small child would be able to press them individually.

If you really don't want a PalmOne device, you'd be better off choosing something running Windows Mobile than running Symbian, I think. :)

I agree with Alsicole that Symbian OS is not as good as Palm OS in terms of PDA. I've played with my colleagues' P800/P900 quite a bit. I've to say I would have fall for it if I have never tried Palm OS. Now I am stuck in Palm OS, I like it's simplicity (that's why I didn't fancy Clie Organiser much) and fast power on as compared to PPC.

What should I do? Stick with SJ33, buy TJ37/ TH55 or wait for a few months? :( Waiting seems to be the easier way out though. :D Not that it solves anything.
