Latest Mapopolis Beta Version 2.02
Version 2.02 of Mapopolis Navigator transparently accesses map data on external memory cards such as SD cards and Mem Stick cards. There is no longer any need to transfer maps to RAM manually. However, for best performance, maps may be copied to RAM.

Has anybody tried this? It would be great if we could save a huge amount of maps on the MS, and not bother with RAM or AliasExt.
Just a Noob :D

Why don't you try it and report back to us? ;)

I love Mapopolis. I was just giving you a hard time. :D ;)

I will try this myself as well. Interesting thing though...I use Mapopolis Navigator 1.35 and I already have all my maps on either my MS or in Internal Media as v1.35 supports this feature.

I've got it loaded on the TH. Everything seems to work fine. It's a little slower , but not by much. I'd get a little clock symbol for second or so when scrolling around the map. The TH isn;t the hottest for Mapopolis anyway. I get some pretty big lags when turning corners, upcoming roads, etc. Such a nice compact package though ( I have the UK version, BTW) and now, all the maps permanently on the card!!!

Ok,
I got v.2.02 loaded, put all maps on MS, but still can't access those maps in Mapopolis. SO I tried moving them all to internal media sys/palm/alias blah, blah, blah. But that isn't working for me. Do I need to move the Mapopolis App. to internal media for this to work??

I wouldn't think so. Do you have your maps in the right folder in your Memory Stick? Should be in the launcher folder.

Yeh, they're in launcher. Now I've got one to show up under UX-50 in mapopolis, which doesn't make any freakin sense since I have a bunch of maps in there. I don't quite get it. The one map that is showing up was imported to the MS by itself, where the others were brought in a group  so that could be the problem...

Well, since I just got my GPS going and one of my few complaints was the map in RAM, I just downloaded beta 2.02 and drove to store.

All in all it worked really well. When you scroll on map and such, you can see it has a slight lag. Also, when you are driving, there is a tiny lag of I'm guessing about 20 feet. So after you come to a complete stop at a light, you'll see it move forward that last 20 feet.

What I really like, is now you have a few more options. Such as, you can now tell the map to orientate itself to the direction you're going instead of just to North. You can also tell it to keep device on for an hour.

One thing that I am curious about is that now you don't have the contiguous option on the maps. I wonder if it will automatically look on the MS for them? Even when you tell it to move map to RAM, it doesn't ask you.

Tonight, I have to drive into a different county. So, I'll check it out.

so far in my testing, it does load contiguos maps automatically.
but i've also noticed that zooming in and out with the ux50's scroll wheel does not work for me anymore. which was a good feature

Ok, I figured out my main problem, for some reason when I was importing the maps into the card the File names were getting some what corrupted. Instead of being "Map-KENT_DE.pdb" it was "KENT~1.PDB. After I renamed all the maps they loaded fine. Which leads to the nice feature of v.2.02.
In v.1.35 the maps could be stored on the card, but still needed to be loaded into RAM for Mapopolis to see them. With v.2.02 the maps do not need to be moved into RAM. Right now I have 13.4m of maps on my MS that run contiguous. There is a slight (5-8sec.) delay when scrolling around my overall map, but at 13.4m, that is expected. The only major down side is I do not have a GPS device so I can not comment on that aspect. And since I don't have GPS I am counting on the Door-to-door directions, which exposses the major flaw, like baseline siad the scroll wheel does not work. With the Door-to-door directions, the scroll wheel used to jump from to the next direction, now I have to hit the tiny up/down arrows on the top right side of the UX screen. I need to find a way to better accomplish this task.

Overall, v2.02 is great even without the scroll. I'd imagine it being perfect (besides the slight lag) with GPS.

Yep, I did confirm that when driving from one county to another it automatically switches maps within the card. Hurray! Contiguous is good. George likes his maps contiguous.

Shady, if you get a GPS unit, check out the Fortuna GPSmart. You'll find my review of it here.
