View Full Version : Help. Anything harder than a hard reset?

Help!! I'm so upset. I was trying a 480x320 solitaire program (need to remember/confirm exactly whose) and it messed up my TH55. After exiting the application my status bar and virtual graffiti area now no longer draw to the edge of the screen, there is a white band about 4 pixels wide all around them. I tried a couple of hard resets but even those won't return the screen to normal. I though a hard reset was pretty severe but that wretched software has obviously done something to the screen that even a hard reset won't fix. Can anyone think of anything else to try? It really bugs me to the extent that I'll probably try to get an exchange if I can't fix it.

First check: did you really perform a hard reset? Did the text "Erase all data? Press left - yes, any other button - no" appear?

Yeah. I got it wrong the first time and did a soft reset, but I've definitely done hard resets now.

Oh, this is crazy. I think all I can do is take it back!

Let me just check I'm not going mad. The virtual graffiti area and the status bar are supposed to draw all the way to the edge of the screen aren't they, and not have a white border around them?

[ The rest of this post edited to remove some almost certainly wrong info about the extent of the problem I had running the pdamill trial on my TH55. My appologies to pdamill. ]

My experience of running the Pdamill solitaire trial was as follows. It appears to run normally but after you hit exit it plays the closing "Thank you for trying" credits and then drops you into the app launcher, but the status bar at the bottom of the screen is gone, it won't display and tapping on the place where any of the icons should be fails to have any effect. I got it back by going to a program (I chose Prefs) that I knew was 320x320 and so would pull up the virtual graffiti area and I hoped the status bar with it; it did. Whether everything thereafter is normal (with respect to borders around the Graffiti area) I still need to 100% confirm but the evidence is mounting that it is and I just started noticing the border because of the status bar mishap and in fact it was there all the time.

All Colour Clies have a white border that goes around the whole screen - People don't usually notice it because most things have a white background, but it is there!

Panic not, it is normal :)

However, it should only be 2px wide, not 4!

As a caution to other, do not let the pdamill trial of Solitair[e]As a beta tester of PDAMill's solitare, I have NEVER had a problem. I'm amazed that you did, with all the people they had running that program through it's paces, and it's been solid as a rock on my PDA. Even installing the incorrect version shouldn't cause something like that.

And if a soft, warm and hard reset don't do anything about the 'border' you're seeing, I have to think it's the one that's supposed to be there. . . do you have any status/VG skins installed?

Oh, for goodness sake. There goes my credibility. The app I tried definitely had something wrong with it because it killed the status bar on exit so that much at least isn't my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm not sure about the rest. After your (Cyker's) post, I looked under a magnifying glass and it does look to be 2 pixels wide. Also, after more research prompted by your reassurance I found a good screenshot in the Palminfocenter review http://www.palminfocenter.com/ss.asp?f=th55r_1_L.jpg that clearly shows the border.

It's ironic that I never noticed the border before, but because of the problem with the status bar I suddenly started noticing it. The problem is that now it's really bugging me, and I literally never noticed it before. The human mind is a strange thing. I guess I just need to go to a store and convince myself that it really is normal, and then hope my brain gradually stops noticing it again.

Re pdamill's sollitaire, there was definitely a problem with the status bar not re-drawing on exit (and after the hard reset I tried it again a few times on the totally blank TH55 and it happened every time) but as far as the residual border is concerned the evidence is growing that my mind has just played a horrible trick on me. I will go straight away and edit my previous post re pdamill (if the system lets me) to be somewhat less alarmist.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the help, and it did help, and also thanks a lot for being most tollerant and patient as I made a complete idiot of myself. I think I'll go to bed now.
