... and as usual, after a while I get stuck! :p
So, for those who are playing it already, I found Greta, but do not have the slightest idea as to where I can go now to move further in the adventure!

If the teleport in the center of the chamber is active, step on it. If it isn't, go explore down the four "arms" of the room... There is a hidden switch in one of them that turns on the teleporter (and releases some baddies, too).
You'll need to do this in the next few rooms, as well.

Thanks for the tip.
actually, as usual (again!) I found the answer a bit after posting my question :D
Anyway, Mr Parks keep up the good work and brings us lotsa new maps/worlds!
My pleasure, Kitsune!
Thank you for playing. Hope you enjoy it!
And thank you for opening this thread. :)

I assume the quest is finished after the princess is delivered to the King? If so, I have gotten through it. But, I still haven't found the orb for the old man yet.
WildCelt
The main quest, yes.
Did you return Greta and Grabriel back to Stephanie? Be sure to talk them several times.
Look for the Orb in the King's forest. You may have to step in something you would normally try to avoid.
Hope you had fun with it!

Yes, everyone is home safe and sound.

Ooo, tricky! I never would have looked there!

I sure did! Thanks for the info.

If you step in something like that in the Ogre Forest, you'll get a treat, too.
Of course, it's one treat to many icky steppings, but ....

Stuck in the "Cult Dungeon", Big room, pushed the buttons on the four walls, and a teleporter with 4 columns showed up in the center of the room. One of the columns is red. I assume I have to get to the teliporter, how do I work around the columns?

Try "touching" the odd one. ;)

I am in the dungeon of the cult. I have gone throught the blue gate(with the apple key) On my left is a green water fountain that poisions you when you drink from it. Straight ahead of me are four holes. The two middle ones open and close, but the ones on the outside always stay open, what next?

Before the first hole, look around on the walls for a secret switch or two.

QUESTION FOR MR. PARKS:
Is there a purpose to the two green altar-alcoves near the exit? And can I finally discard the torn and abandoned skirts? I've tried placing one on the other to no visible effect.
gyffes
Just wanted to make them stand out... to be sure you "looked" at the statue to get to the exit... of course, I did think about putting a "super weapon" in there just for you! :p
As for the skirts, you can dump them, they were only physical clues to go along with the messages when you find them.

Middle door on the left side (if you are facing INTO the king's room). You should get a key (if I remember correctly) from one of them that will open the locked door in the hallway and let you into another area.

HEY ALL,
Make sure that you go to the Redshift homepage (www.Redshift.hu for those that don't know) and nominate them for the award that they are in the running for!!! They have given us a great game and we should all show them our gratitude. You can place one vote per email address per day. I have already put in my 7 for today!
Well, what are you all waiting for? Get a move on!!

I'm having a problem with King's Aide, I'm stuck. And frustrated. And that is a bad combination. I have been thru every part of the town/castle, passages, Cult dungeon, Cult temple at least twice. I have gathered everything from all barrels. I have peeked in every window.
Twice. I even got the orb. The problem is after I rescue/talk to Greta and then go outside I can't figure out what to do. It looks like there should be a teleporter in the forest when I look on the map, but when I go to the spot there is nothing there. I seem to have missed something.
Help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope... Aside from that this is a
kick-a** game! Keep up the good work!

The teleporter is there to take you back should you emerge from the stairwell w/o having finished a certain task.
As you did not get a notice sayin', in effect, "tsk tsk", you're home free. Hope you enjoyed th'Aide.
Where to next, sirrah?

Thanks gyffes, but I'm still not done. I have talked to Greta but not found Gabriel and still havn't found the princess. I'm at a loss and I'm trying to remember if I got any clues where to go to next but can't think of a thing. BTW, I have a pretty strong party. I was in the House of Tricks/Patience/whatever else and didn't have enough cure paralysis potions and my cleric doesn't know that spell so I thought I would take a break and do this quest. Didn't get to it when I started. Anyway, the fighting here was pretty easy. Looking forward to getting back to finishing the battle with Sohl.

Yeah, King's Aide is designed for levels... oh.. 5-10ish. And you REALLY need cure para for Cold Blood...
As to your troubles... Have you fought Arachna? When you take the string of teleporters, you end up in a room ringed with many statues. After those battles, you step back into the teleporter you emerged from and end up going back a room. Look around there.

I am stuck bigtime. Not sure if this is a game glitch or what but heres my situation. I have the Registered version of Legacy. I went to Kings aide at level 4 and replaced one of my characters, talked to the king, chamberlain, etc. I have the royal pass, chamberlains keys and have a couple quests from Kings Aide.
Well, I found it to be a bit tough so I went back to the main world and leved some more.
NOW... when I go back to Kings Aide, everything has been reset!!
The major problem with this area is that there is now a red gate preventing me from entering the castle and everyone talks to me like I have never been to this city before. I still have the 2 quests for this area in my journal but I cannot continue since the red gate blocks my path I cannot restart the conversation with the king!!!
Sooo, is there a way to "Reset" the kings aide quests, without starting a new game all over again???
Please help!

gyffes
09-13-2004, 10:12 AM
err... you can actually SEE the teleporter, as opposed to its just appearing on the MAP?
I can't remember if it stays should you have used it earlier. So it's possible you emerged, hadn't finished, found it there to take you back and then REemerged, so it's there but inactive since it's no longer needed.
Confused?
Bottom line: If you've rescued all the wimminfolk, you can safely ignore the non-teleporter.

Legacy is great - I paid for the original game, finished it, and decided I wanted to install the King's Aide.
I downloaded the file, put it in my Legacy folder, and teleported to the Town of Decrantes, where I am supposed to be able to access it (I thought from the teleporter?).
However, when I step into the teleporter in Decrantes, I don't see any destinations except Decrantes, the second city, and Grendelmoore.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

I'm using an Axim x30 basic, and have Legacy installed to a 1GB Sandisk expansion card.
Just on a sidenote, too, I've noticed that many times the program lags considerably, especially right after having been launched, and sometimes lags right down to a stand-still (forcing a soft reset). I emailed Redshift about it and they told me I should try moving the files to RAM to see if it helps with speed. I should probably do that, but I don't want to eat up all of the RAM, especially having read what I have about the game being so memory-hungry.
Phillip

03-23-2005, 02:57 PM
Hmph. Well, I play on a Clie NX80 with not much free RAM. Used to use PowerRun to move the game to/from a memory stick but I encountered too many errors with that. Purged the handheld of all I could and loaded Legacy and its maps to internal memory and have never looked back. My guess is the card is the source of your problem(s).
Also, there is a "skinny" version of the game -- did Redshift suggest you try that?
I urge you to try the game from internal.
Phillip

<I urge you to try the game from internal.>
Thanks for the suggestion - I actually did that yesterday, and the delay issues are solved with that, but the maps still don't appear the way they're supposed to. I emailed Redshift about it: we'll see what they have to say.

I'm stuck as to how to move past where I am at and I can't seem to view the map on the site.
I am in a room shaped like a plus sign. 2 sides have statues, one a blue fountain, and the other one is the teleporter that brings you to it from I beleive the teleporter in the room with the 4 switches and 4 pillars with one of them being red. One statue just brings up the window for whats on it, the other goes away when you touch it and you fight a spider. You then can touch the person chained to the wall triggering some baddies to kill but I don't know what to do from here and I am stumped. The map shows a spot in the middle like there is supposed to be a teleporter or something. As far as I can tell I have explored everywhere you can go. I have not been able to complete the quests. I see it was pointed out kind of where to look for the one item but finding the people for the others I assume is at some place I've not figured out how to get to.
I also don't know if there is more to do in morah either. In the last section where there is the big room with several doors next to each other and back in the hall the stairs which say something like blocked by a force field or something. I can open the one to the room with all those colored circle triggers which I take the safe path accross to unlock the 2 locks to get the thing behind there. But is there a way to open the other locked doors or go up those stairs?
Barnold
06-02-2005, 03:26 AM
OK, I don't remember the exact order of events in this room (there are more like that to follow), but after interacting with the girl in chains something has changed in the room. Search it again, and you should find one of the statues is gone, revealing more walls for you to explore and tap.
In Morah the stairs are there just to trick players. No treasure there.
gyffes
06-02-2005, 08:40 AM
And the other doors aren't REALLY locked. Strike them and they'll open. That Stewe.. such a kidder.
As far as King's Aide and where you're stuck, usually there's a stone to press at the back of one of the Plus wings, and that triggers the return of the central teleporter as well as several more baddies.

Help - I'm stuck in the cult dungeon and can't get out! i've read the earlier posts on this subject and have tried everything but to no avail...
I am right near the poisoned fountain and the opening/closing holes. I have found the two switches and can get to the point where there are three holes and the outer ones open and close but can't figure out how to get the middle one to close so I can't get any further. I've tried every combination of open and closed for the two switches (and there aren't that many for two switches!) please help!

Hi all,
I've been lurking here for months, always finding the info I need by searching past posts n such, but this problem is one I haven't seen. I finished King's Aide, but made the fatal mistake of forgetting to check my unfinished quests to see if I'd completed all of them. I didn't take anything from Stephanie's house, so I never saw the old necklace, and thus never gave it back to Sarah.
I reloaded the map back onto my T650 and just figured I'd complete it really quickly, but the map has partially restarted! I can't get into the castle as the male guard on the left says speak to my subordinate and the female guard on the right still says she's off at 9pm, but the gate is closed. I have the necklace now, but as an interesting aside, the map totally restarted, too, along with all of the items, as if I'd never been there. I even saw the palace guard right as you start in the forest and re-received the royal papers.
How can I get into the castle to get this quest finished? I'm playing Proving Grounds right now and really enjoying it, in the meantime. Thanks so much for all of your help.
gyffes
06-24-2007, 08:50 PM
Dr Xeno -- you've discovered one of the... bonuses.. associated with the Legacy expansions:
Uninstall & reinstall them and you have a clean slate.
This is nice 'cause you get to fight all the baddies again. Find all the treasure, again. (cheat: Touch all the stones, again).
This is bad 'cause you get to... well, HAVE to... replay the entire game.
To get into the castle, go back to the teleporter, get the missive from the kid there, return to castle gate, get admitted.
BUT... I think you'll hafta see the king, again, to get the mission to rescue daughter to get the keys to get to see the woman and THEN can give her the necklace.
ANDDDDDD... I think that'll leave you with all those OTHER, larger, quests in yer quest log.
So, I recommend that you merely ignore the necklacequest. And toss the 'lace in a handy barrel, somewhere.
ANNND (yet again), may I say how DELIGHTED I am that you managed to get as far as you did via the Wonders of Searching (tm)!

06-25-2007, 10:47 AM
Hi there, Gyffes,
Thanks for all of the help! After reading so many of your messages helping others, I was really excited to see that you were the one who decided to help me. I actually managed to finish all of Legacy 1, Keldark, Klad (not so interesting) and just about all of King's Aide until now by searching...your messages usually were the one's that helped!
Anyhow, I *did* decide to tackle this one, and though you were correct and very helpful putting me on track, it took some figuring out last night as to what needed to be done to get this to work. I managed to finish that little quest without having to redo the whole map. I found out that if I just dropped the Royal Pass, the left male guard acted as if I'd already been inside and had the Royal Passand been carrying them, however, the right female guard that actually opens the door acted as if I wasn't carry them at all and had never gotten my papers. If I was carrying the Royal Pass, they were reversed...either way the door never opened. I uninstalled the map completely, retried and different permutations abounded until I realized that I probably needed to drop *everything* I carried from that map before it completely, and properly, reset. Once I finally remembered to drop all of the keys, it worked! I restarted the map from scratch.
Once I started to go through it, tho, I noticed that I didn't get any of the missions back that I'd already completed. So all I did was go to Stephanie's house, get the necklace n gave it to Sarah, done! :-) Thanks for all of the help, just thought you'd like to know how it actually turned out. Take care...
gyffes
06-25-2007, 12:24 PM
Interesting. Not sure I'd've thought to drop EVERYTHING -- assuming, of course, I'd even be able to remember what I picked up, where. Glad it worked out.
Eventually, I think you'll find yourself no longer looking to the Quest log.. even on maps I'm new to, I no longer do.
Soooo, what level is your party? Where to next?
drxeno
06-25-2007, 01:01 PM
Well, I'm thinking that I'll probably keep playing all or most of the free maps available until I finish all of those or feel the need to play something "meatier." The next purchased expansion would be either the Official Expansion or Revenge, I can't decide. I'd kinda like to play Revenge, since I just did King's and have those characters and that storyline in my head (if out of order), but I'm not sure...what would you suggest?
My party matrix is:
Knight 16 Adventurer 16
Battlemage 16 Swordmaster 17
Kinda high for many of those early free maps, I know, but still fun...I like all of the storylines the best. Are you playing Quest these days...? Take care...
gyffes
06-25-2007, 01:08 PM
Can't play quest -- my leetle Clie's can't handle its requirements.
Mmm.. well. With that makeup, I suggest two things: PAYING for Legend AND Lespasian War. Each is well worth the limited scratch that gets asked and each has terrific storyline.
Lespas is actually designed as a followup to Legend, though by different authors. It's not a requirement that you do 'em in that order, however.
And.. you're a bit magic-lite. It'll only become harder for you as you get higher, 'cause magic causes SO MUCH more damage than and hand weapons can, certainly over range/several opponents.
I suggest your first task is to get a first-level mage (Julius, really, your only option), park him in the back and rampage through Elvira. You'll enjoy the wit you liked in King's Aide, it's free, and it'll allow you to leap Julius to level 10 pretty quickly. Just make sure that before you report to the QuestGiver, you dump the rest of the party in an Inn so ol' J gets all credit, capice?

The teleporters do not work until you've registered Legacy.
If you're asking about King's Aide -- it's free.
If you've played Legacy through to the end of its free portion and haven't yet paid for it, you're a fool.

Not a fool- where I live it's almost impossible to buy things over the internet, the reason I was asking, because I played Morah's plan in the unregistered version.

Right. Sorry. Redshift's had trouble with people stealing The Quest -- and over the years, I've had people here asking for cracked versions of Legacy -- so we tend to get defensive on their behalf. I actually chose fool over far less temperate words, initially.
Wherefore art thou that purchasing via 'net's so difficult?
(oh - and since Morah's Plan was put out by Redshift itself as a small demo map, it might fall under different rules, vis a vis extensions/registration).

My parent's house! When your only 16, and your parents don't believe in purchasing over the "net", then it's pretty much impossible. BTW I didn't take it the wrong way, I assumed it was because of piracy, and I am also glad to say that I don't believe in piracy either, with all the 80 peices of software on my device, not one is pirated.

Brutal. Crying shame, that. It's too bad, 'cause Legacy is such good value for your money: you can replay 'til you to wear out your screen protector. Damn.

Hi Gyffes,
Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I did notice, especially towards the end of Legacy 1, that the magic characters really start kicking butt! I don't mind paying for any of these games, which I have for all of them, as I'm hoping to always encourage more great programming for PalmOS, like Redshift's quality games. I just thought that I'd hit up the free one's, first! ;-) Now that you mention it, changing to Julius immediately is a good idea! Take care...

Hello Gyffes,
I have another question for you...does it matter if my Mage is L1 or L10? I found a female mage that's L10 and she can wear all the great stuff that I had on my female Swordmaster. Also, in your opinion, is it better in the later expansion packs to have, say, an L17 Adventurer with no magic, or a lower level Knight with some magic (but increasing on the little maps)? Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your opinion. Take care...

I started a thread at an old forum (PDArcade) wherein I solicited people's Legacy Tactics, including partymakeup. It garnered many good ideas. Should start such a thingie here..
It's pretty personal, how you form yer group. I favor as much magic as possible -- to the extent of playing 2 battlemages upfront, 2 mages in back (talk about yer firepower!).
The problem with 'renting' a higher level character is of point distribution.
When you get a level 1 character (we'll use Julius as an example), you have his base point allocation. Then, at each level, you wisely assign THREE points to his INT, ONE point to his END. Slowly, he gains more hit points and quickly he gains more mana.
EVERY ROUND, you assign 3-1. NOTHING ELSE.
By level 10, he'll have a MASSIVE mana allotment and decent END (for a mage).
On the other hand, the character you rent at level 10 has had those points assigned, willynilly, across ALL traits -- so your mage will have a higher-yet-useless STR and DEX (ok, next to useless). Lower hit points and far less mana.
The same holds true for other classes, but none as extreme as for the mage (for example, with battlemages, I assign TWO to INT and then either one or two to END/STR as they climb, but still, no DEX).
Thus, it's rarely worth it to rent a level 5 character (I do when I want a 2nd mage 'cause Julius is the only level 1 mage) and never a level 10. IMHO.
As for adventurers: don't play 'em. I see no advantage. Ditto for Highlander (they, in fact, through coding error, did NOT get the bonuses promised them so all they have are deficiencies!). I've dallied with swordsmen but just don't see the benefit -- might as well have a Battlemage who can wear the same armor and fire a few lightningbolts or curses while we're still far away.
I do occasionally have a knight in the front. He's there to wield the big Blades (which, oddly enough, swordmasters CANNOT use...) and he's pretty useless the rest of the time.
SO, to wrap-up, I favor
Knight,Battlemage/Mage,Mage or Battlemage,Battlemage/Mage,Mage. The back two have all the bows and the like. The front two armored as much as possible.
This is a brutal setup at first: ALL your money goes to mana potions and the occasional arrow quiver. Once they're all about level 10, however, your slowly growing stock of mana is up to about 50 each and you have the firepower to take on everyone. One round of CURSE/POISON CLOUD/SPARKS/SPARKS just about kills everything that moves.
Except death dragons... they're tough until you hit about level 30 with this group, esp since the battlemages can' fight their way outta a paper sack, hand to hand.

Hi Gyffes,
Great, thanks this is wonderful. Not sure what I'll do here, but I'll think of something. I appreciate all of the help. So, if you're playing Legacy still, what maps do you still have left? Take care...

Of the maps I've played, I've played 'em all manymany times.
Some more than others as, for whatever reason, certain maps lend themselves to replay better than others.
I try different parties, different self-imposed limitations ("ok, this time, no curse.. no paralyze..."). I'm aided by what's at times a phenomenally poor memory. "Hey, I don' remember that!"
I like the struggle of new parties, so I tend to take a party to level 25, 26, then drop 'em, unless a new highlevel map's come out that needs playing. I just prefer the danger a SINGLE SPIDER presents, the difficulty of balancing paying $300 for a +2 INT necklace or buying 7 more mana potions or, what, 15-20 arrows to yawning, firing off a CURSE/SPARKS combo that takes a Revenge thug from 550hp to 11 in one blow.
Remember running from the Gnome Captain when your mighty knight took a hit that dropped his health all the way to 2? In one shot! I still recall the panic of running through the bartender's catacombs, a spider on my ash, two of my characters dying of poison with each step, desperately trying to figure out which opening led to the damned ladder. Those moments can occur at level 35, they're just few and far between. Esp with EVERYONE in the party capable of raising dead..
I've done everything in King's Aide, I'm about to return the princess, except for the orb for the old man. I'll cover all the areas again. Any place I should Look?

If I am remembering this one correctly, walk some place you normally avoid to find the orb.
I think I did, because I normally do walk there, to clean out everything, (saving before I do of course). I did get something there. Maybe I stupidly lost it or sold it or whatever. I'm going through Elvira now. Maybe I will go back and check the area in King's Aide, or find an old save and go back. Thanks!

can't sell it.
And it's SO nice to hear someone repeating m'words of wizdum... "walk where you wouldn't..."
You actually can see the orb, if you sorta glance out the side of your eye at it...
I got it. Finished. Loading more expansions.

Well, I've resqued the princes and talked (about 6 times) with the mother and daugthers (recieved a ring or something); then I searched for this ***** orb all the King's Forest but didn't find it. Can you help me?
Thanks.
