Still transferring info from SJ to UX. Is moving my datebook and what not as simple as backing up the sj, sliding over memory stick, and restoring? Seems too easy for the apps I'm sharing on the two units. Just not sure of the effects on the OS. Dumb question I know...but help me out. Didn't realize how much of my life I put in this damn SJ.

wait...think I'm just going to beam things. Damn...sometimes desktops are just so much easier to figure out because of their limitations...not used to being so flexible.

Transferring a backup file via memorystick is probably not advisable given that the SJ is an OS4 machine, and the UX is OS5 -- there are probably many differences that would make things wonky.

If I remember correctly, you can just transfer the datebook and other databases on your PC desktop to the folder of the appropriate sync name, then just sync the UX. I could be wrong. I haven't upgraded from Palm to Palm in a long time. I usually do what you just suggested -- beam the info, though I usually just abandon the old datebook info and only beam contacts.

Speaking of memory stick . . . being new . . . feeling dumb . . . etc., I just purchased a 256MB Lexar Media memory stick. When I clicked on card info, it tells me that 64kb has been used with 123.6MB left of 123.6MB. It says I have a SONY 128MB memory stick. When I looked on the stick itself, it says 256MB then says (128MB x 2). What gives? I'm totally unfamiliar with Memory Stick media.

Ah, you fell for the mismarketing scheme cooked up by Sony. Lemme explain:

Memory sticks (the original format) are limited to 128 megabytes because of a design flaw by Sony. Sony redesigned the sticks to allow greater capacities, and called the redesigned ones Memory Stick Pro. But Pro sticks don't work in older machines, so they keep making and selling them. To make up for the fact that the sticks top out at 128, Sony created the Memory Stick Select format, which has 128 megs on two sides, and that's what you have. There is another format called the MS Duo, which is half the physical size of the other formats.

There is a switch on your card that chooses whether you are reading from one "side" or the other, so you can have up to 256 total, but only 128 on one side or another. Note that you are not actually turning the card over or inserting it differently -- just flip the switch and re-insert to access the other side.

This is probably a bummer for you, since it means that you aren't able to keep large files (like movies) and you have to do this little trick to access different portions of the card. I feel for you. But on the upside you probably paid less for it than you would have a 256 MS Pro. And now you know -- in the future, buy a Memory Stick Pro.

Hope that helps.

Well I'll be dipped. Whoodathunkit!? So, when the memory indicates FULL, alls I gotta do is flip the switch for a refill -- kinda like 50 gallon saddle tanks on a truck? Heck, y'all. This teck nolly gee thang has me scratchin' my head.

Thank you "Justa." I can already feel my "noobyness" beginning to wane. :D

or the other use is keep your "secret files" in a side, and the "other files" in the other side, so, you switch between them.

yeah guys...the end result was transferring the datebookDB file, along with todo, address, and memos. Was simple really, but couldn't send the whole thing since the version of these files is newer on the UX. I got it all working now. YAAAAY

"Secret" files. What "secret" files? Now, what makes you think I would have "secret files? I mean, if you KNOW I have "secret" files, then, they're no longer a "secret." Good grief! So much for having "secret" files. :( :D
