Hi, does anyone know if I can use a extended battery pack to operate the UX50? I know the USB port in UX50 does not support charging but if the UX50 will use the power from USB battery pack directly?

The EB40 is for the UX. Do a search and you'll find lots of info!

This simply won't work with the UX50.

As you can see, the USB connector is a full-size one and can't fit into the UX. The UX uses a Mini-USB connector.

Even if you were to find a battery pack with a Mini-USB connector on the end I still highly doubt it would work as I don't believe the UX's mini-USB port is setup or designed to accept a charge.

Looks like you're just going to have to shell out the bucks for an EB40, or stay real close to an outlet. ;)

Hi
How about if I cut off the connector like show in picture from my original AC adapter then connect with battery extender pack like this. Is there will cause any problem or something need to caution with? Thanks

Should work.

I just did that days ago and created a AC adapter plug to USB receptor
"extension cord". Also added a USB plug to the open cable end of the AC adapter.
Now I can use the AC adapter as it was intended and other portable power
sources as well.

You can get a short USB extension cord from cyberguys.com
(pn 131 0938) cut it in half and use them as above.

So you're saying you've enabled your UX to take a charge through the mini-USB port? That's great if true. :D

Sorry,

what I did is to enable powering the UX via the cradle's connector.
You still need the cradle.

There are four ways one can power the UX:

1. very brave souls rewire the UX mini usb port as suggested earlier
by someone to connect the power leads from the mini USB connector

2. via the cradle using the Sony AC/car adapter or other sources via the mod
I mentioned above.

3. still brave souls modifying the EB40 (see mod on another thread)

4. Using the "charge case" from brando

Thanks! Can you provide detailed, step by step instructions how to do this? I'm really interested. :D

Hi
Just to ask few extra questions and hope you can help me to clarify

(1) If you turn off the UX50 then plug in the external battery pack, will the orange LED light on just like when we charge with AC adapter?

(2) There are 3 pins on the connector of cradle, there is one + and two - sign. Which - should I connect to?

(3) As we all know that AC adapter is supply 5.2 V and if we use rechargeble battery 4 unis will be 4.8V. Will the built-in battery in charging if it full? Or shall we use Alkaline which with 6 V? will 6 V too high and damage the UX50?

It possilby would work only if you use the cradle to hook it to. There is no provision internally within the UX50 to charge it through the USB port. The way to charge it is thought the cradle.
