I'm about to but the NavMan 4460 in car GPS system:

http://www.handnav.co.uk/product_details.php?id=5

However, Id let to get a steamlined-looking window or dash mount. The 'universal' mounts all look ugly with unwealdy appearing side grips which frankly, just look a little too naff. What I'm after is an alternative. I know there are PDA holders that have a magnetic base:the Arkon CM217 Universal Magnetic Holder:

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=ARKCM217

Which I was toying with getting.

This may be a stupid question but is the metal casing of the NZ magnetic? I'd rather not add on a lump of steel and add to its already weighty bulk....

Cheers

I might be mistaken, but I think the NZ90 case is made of magnesium, not steel. And it is not very "magnetic", as the internal electronics wouldn't take to kindly to such interference anyway.

Cars are different, but I wrestled with the same problem. I have a 2003 Jetta TDI and wanted to be able to use my NZ90 to check area traffic maps on my commute to and from work.

I tried just leaning the NZ agains the dash behind the gear shift, obviously not satisfactory...

I then discovered that I could hang the NZ on one of my dash vents using the Hotsync cover on the back of the unit. Works very well BUT, the hinge is a weak piece of plastic and it also meant I couldn't plug the NZ into the 12V outlet to charge it.

What I do now is lean it up against the clear instrument cluster between the tachometer and the speedometer. The bezel provides a nice "shelf", and some velcro keeps the NZ from sliding. Most importantly, it's now in my line-of-sight so that I don't have to take my eyes off the road. Here's a link to the traffic app I use. I don't know if it's available for other areas, but it works great here:

thnaks for the thoughts - I was also concerned about strong external magnetic fields and delicate electronics.

The PDA traffic app looks good - nothing in UK similar yet.
