Is there other enhanced calendar software besides AGENDUS for my Sony Clie PDA? If so, what? How do you rate AGENDUS (if you have it)? ..Looking for feedback.

Datebook5 and Agendus are probably the 2 most popular 3rd party datebook replacements. A trial of DB5 can be downloaded at www.pimlicosoftware.com. Do a search, there have been many threads on both of these.

Mark29 is right. I think hherbzilla did a very fine review of the two apps. I have Agendus Pro, and am very happy with it, but DateBk5 is also an excellent--and VERY versatile app. The learning curve may be steeper with DB5, I suspect!

It's worth every penny!
I hear Datebook5 is good too.

Agendus and Datebk5 are both excellent excellent programs worth their costs. I think Agendus is "prettier" and has much tighter integration with contacts. If you get Agendus Pro, it is also nicely integrated with email. On the other hand, I think Datebk5 has more overall "features," has been around longer, has a huge loyal following and even costs less. However, I think it is probably not as intuitive to those that are unfamiliar with it (the User Manual is 112 pages with a little font!) and the user interface is showing some age. Both Agendus and Datebk5 offer free trial periods, so you should definitely install both to see what you like! There are many threads on this forum discussing Agendus vs. Datebk5 and each camp is very happy with their choice -- "Tastes great!" "Less Filling!" :-D

BTW, If you want a free solution, I think ksDatebook with ksToDo with Today 2.1 make a nice suite definitely worth checking out.

Me? I like them all! (Even Clie Organizer, but that's another thread! ;-) )

Good luck.

I know its obvious but all PIMs are tools and therefore you need to have an idea of what you want from your tool. In my case, I use Agendus because I bought it a while ago but I suspect I could have used Clie Organiser to reflect the way I want to do Time Management. For speed of data entry is important (i.e. Templates and Vivid in Agendus) and the ability to quickly visually see (i.e. use of icons) what my future meetinga are aand what tasks are outstanding.

I will "ditto" Wazowski! :D

Test drive (demo) both of them and see which suites your taste/personality. DateBk5 is probably going to be cheaper in the long run because they haven't thus far asked owners to re-ante, as Agendus does all the time! But I have and will continue to use Agendus because the GUI is "prettier," and I like the integration with mail and Mapopolis a lot!!! ;)

I like to use A5 (http://www.a5agenda.com) (freeware).
Click this thumbnail if you want to see a screenshot of it in TH55.

I switched from Agendus to DateBK5 because, in my case, the navigation buttons absolutely DON'T work good in the contacts view....you can only scroll within a TAB..that's all.
Mailed Iambic (bug forum) but didn't get any reply up until today. IMHO the author of DateBK5 is much more focused on quality and ironing out bugs, while the authors of Agendus are more focused on "good looks" but leave many bugreports unanswered.

Don't forget to give Agenda by Mobile Systems a look. They always put out high quality software.

get datebk5, it's way better (at least in "my books") and is cheaper. for $25 you get everything at once, including free updates on the yahoogroups.com and the best support "under the palm os sun" :-) with agendus, you ahve to pay for every minor upgrade, and even if you want to have the bugs fixed you have to pay annually an upgrade fee. hence, agendus is one of the most expensive app in the long term

Tastes Great!

Less Filling!

:p

For a bit of history, it might be worthwhile to note that several years ago, iambic, the developers of Agendus, made some pretty poor decisions, which justifiably resulted in a public relations debacle and earned iambic the scorn of many in the Palm community, and especially the Datebk5 community. Years have passed and iambic apologized shortly after, but for many Datebk5 users, this has been their mantra and they will "never forget." This may explain at least part of the emotion involved whenever anyone asks this question! (Just like some people will never ever use any Microsoft products no matter how good the actual software is, due to Microsoft's business practices! I'm not saying iambic is Microsoft, but you get my drift!) In any event, test drive both products and do plenty of searches -- it will be some interesting reading!

. . . .

Tastes great!

Less filling!

Thanks all for the feedback. Another question, though: When you purchase Agendus or DateBk5 is it only something you can use on your PDA or do you also see it (the weekly screen views, etc) on your PC for updating and then calling for hot sync? ...I received a trial version (limited) of Agendus with the purchase of my Clie and it seems I can only use Agendus on the PDA, not on my PC, right? i.e. date book updates made from my PC have to be done with the standard bare minimum software that came with the PDA, then you hot sync, then you have to go to the PDA to interface with Agendus there? Can someone confirm this?

Both Datebk5 AND Agendus use the 'stock' datebook database . . . anything you enter in Palm Desktop will show up. :)

Both have free trials . . . I strongly suggest that you try them both. Different strokes, and all. :D

If you decide to go with Datebk5 in the end but are lusting after Agendus's address book functionality, give Super Names a download as well. It's been called "the Datebk5 of address books" and having just become acquainted with it I can see why.

I think out of all the ones mentioned Mobile Agenda looks the best, nicely laid out, and has almost the same options as Agendus Pro but only cost $14.95. I'd put Mobile Agenda in between Agendus Standard and Pro versions when it comes to features.

Because I had Navigation troubles in Agendus (left - right buttons were almost useless in contacts) I mailed Iambic about this problem. today I got an answer:

"There is no specific support in Agendus for the left and right buttons Sony included on the TH-55"

Good to know when your about ty buy this software.

In a second post they stated that TH55 support probably won't be implemented. Therefore I'm curious why people like Agendus so much in combination with a TH55 because of the fact that the left-rightbuttons are absolutely useless in this app and the backbutton only closes the app. You can't use it without a stylus.
