I just purchased the NX70 and I am loving it. But the audio player is boring. Is there a player that supports visuals or something?

Unfortunately, no. It's my understanding that Sony is not releasing the specs to allow others to make such apps.

Would love a version of MusicMatch for Palm OS PDA!

Is it possible to use the T665 player on the NX70V?...

most likely not.
at least not without a whole lot of code mods.

Why are you staring at the screen while listening to mp3s? Maybe it's just me, but when I'm listening to mp3s on the NX, either I'm using other apps at the same time, or I have the NX in my pocket. Other than visualizations (which WOULD be cool, but certainly aren't necessary), I don't see what any other audio player could possibly offer over the built-in player. None of the Tungsten players offer increased functionality over the CLIE player.

The only other feature I would want would be to play Audible files. The Palm Audible app does not work on Sony devices.

Gimme OGG!!! MP3 was certainly important a few years ago, but I would love to see (or hear) a modern audio compression appear for my NX, allowing for 64kbps cd-quality audio. Also an equalizer would be nice. About Skinning AudioPlayer: It's possible using Filez, CliéFiles and Constructor for Palm, but it'S a major pain in the *** as well, as buttons are shared between multiple applications. Also, a skin file takes an additionally 170k of RAM (after compression; for some weird reason Sony uses no compression or scanline, switching to lossless OS4 compression decreases filesizeof ALL the skins by about 65%)

Yep, can't even find mp3 versions of my favorite songs on Kazaa anymore -- they're all in OGG now  :)
BTW, ATRAC3 offers similar performance.

I feel like an idiot asking this-- what is OOG?

"Loading ... Loading ... Loading ..."
----Half an hour later----
"Please select the files you want to convert"
-----Two hours later----
"Conversion complete"
-----Another fifteen minutes of searching through my hard drive and a few seconds of transfering to Clié later----
"Can't find any compatible files"
----One hour of manual reading later----
"No compatible storage media found"
----Another hour of manual reading later----
"You need a white MG Memory Stick"
Short Summary:
Check-In / Check-Out. This is my Clié not an airport. And what does >> no storage found<< mean? That's a genuine Sony MS, you $§%§&"
So you hopefully understand that my feelings towards ATRAC3 are ... uhm ... uhm ... I can't come up with a nice term, but you get my point, don't you?
Those were my feelings when I tried

OGG/Vorbis is an OpenSource audio compression that needs about half the bitrate for equal MP3 quality. Music sounds great when recorded with 64k. And 128k is almost lossless (as opposed to 128k standard quality and 320k high-quality when using MP3). All major players, including Winamp, Sonique and WindowsMediaPlayer support OGG/Vorbis, as well as about every CD-ripping tool.
The official page is
http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/
and http://www.vorbis.com/
has some information as well

One last word. Quicktime is supported as well ( http://qtcomponents.sourceforge.net/ ) as any DirectShow compatible media player
( http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediaxw and http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm )

Thanks hansschmucker, I'll definitely consider OGG. Now I also wish that my clie read that type of file.

i always wish there would be more development, but i am usually pleased with everything that I can do now on my NX!

just about the only thing I could ask more of with the audioplayer is OGG support...besides that, I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't want to use anything else, unless it supported more file types.

three words: VARIABLE BITRATE SUPPORT! Don't really care too much if ogg is not supported right now, but most of my mp3s are in VBR and the clie will not play them. Stupid, really.

No, it's not stupid. Sony only half heartedly supports mp3, they want you to use their proprietary ATRAC3 format. This is evidenced by the new personal players that recently were introduced without mp3 support.
Sony only supported mp3, because no one was buying the ATRAC3 format.

I had the same frustrations with atrac & memory sticks. Manufacturers would sell more product, I'm sure, if they got together behind one protocol!
I had problems ripping CD's to am Mp3 format my NX70v would read. I finally settled on MP3 Studio from Ashampoo :D

Audible plans to support the Clie within a few months.

I never have a problem on my Clie n760 with VBR mp3 encoded with CDEX. I usually use 32-96 VBR range for music I want to keep on the MS but it also plays my 96-256 VBR files also.

So did my NR70, but not the NX70. It's also documented in the Sony CD manual.

Not supporting VBR mp3 files is completely stupid. Many, many people use VBR when encoding mp3s. If AeroPlayer or PocketTunes becomes available for the NX series I'm all over it.
Ogg support would be nice too.

I had the stupidity to Purchase a Sony Network Walkman that used Magic Gate (White) MS. Great product crippled by the Digital Rights Management Software, there was so much checking-in and out of files they began to earn Air Miles !
Sony has nailed its audio colours to the mast...ATRAC (it only supported MP3 becuase that was an entry requirement for the first PDA's to get market acceptance). Interestingly the new MS PRO's are all Magic Gate enabled, therfore bringing ATRAC to everyone who buys MS PRO.
If i'm forced to resample my MP3 files from fantastic VBR format to ok CBR just to fit my NX, i may even try ATRAC again if/when i go to MS PRO.
I was dissappointed, but forewarned the NX couldn't handle VBR before buying from these Forums (& Larry). Interesting to see how a Corporation changes the MP3 audio capability through a product line over time NR = VBR, NX = can't !

I would settle for the ability to make a play list, it's a small thing but so out of reach.....

You may call it stupid and you might be right if everyone told Sony to go stick-it with ATRAC3 format. Sony wants to control us, just in case we dare to copy something from one device to another:mad:!

There's a good Article (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.02/sony.html?pg=1&topic=&topic_set=) at Wired (http://www.wired.com/wired/current.html) magazine about Sony playing both sides; digital rights management and making devices that play digital media. There is a big battle going on inside Sony, and the article sheds some light on it and makes some good points.
Whats stupid about the lack of 'visuals' for the NX player is that the previous versions had it and the NX doesnt (isnt it supposed to be an upgrade?). Also, if i turn off my clie and turn it on later and press play on the remote it is in continue not shuffle like i had it when i turned it off. This really sucks. And i havent heard of OGG but it sounds good (no pun intended)

pigburger: The NX player can crwate playlists. It even creates an M3U file ready for playing in Winamp or Sonique. Just Click the button below the AudioPlayer icon (top-left)

Sucks to be me, I don't have that option, unless I have been completely missing something for the past 7 months. Just a random button would be nice.

DOH!!!
Nevermind, I just found the shuffle option, I feel pretty stupid right now, kind of like the first time I had the hold button on without knowing it.....
