Hey fellow NZ clie's users. I have had my NZ for about 6months and learned a great deal from these postings.
I have a question about the Flash Player application. I thought Flash player stuff was like the fun movies or games you see on the internet. I have several Macromedia Flash player programs that play fine on my computer but not on clie. I have tried to copy them directly on my memory stick under MMFLASH. Then try them under the flash player app on NZ, they will not play. Does anyone have a solution or know of conversion program to help?
Thanks for the time,
Gdawg

Well Gdawg300, you guessed right that said program refers so MacroMedia flash data.
But whilst copying data directly onto the memory stick is a cute way to shift lots of data, the PalmOS only recognizes two file type "naturally".
PDB and PRC files. All other file types requires "special registration" by their corresponding application in order to be tolerated/workable on a Palm device. Otherwise they just take up space.
-> Try to install said Macromedia PC files via hotsync to see what I'm talking about.
In short, you need to transform those files in order to be able to play them.
Try the export tool from Sony (not sure if that would work), otherwise do some research on Flash files on PalmOS via Google.
Best example here are the video files for the movie player.
Even so they are bona fide QuickTime files, for some odd ball reason Sony decided they required the extension MQV instead of MOV.
So if you just "drag'n drop" an MOV file over there, you won't be able to play it.
Rename it M?...?.MQV (The ?...? part is an [alpha]numeric sequence, counting up), and it'll play just fine (given the right resolution).
Also, the files need to be in the correct location, if you store them on the MS.
Even VFS allows for great flexibillity here, most programs (specially the ones written by the device manufacturer) only tolerate one specific location under "\PALM\PROGRAMS\<ProgName>" for their data files.
I haven't bothered with the Flash player to much myself, yet, so this is all I can tell you.

I guess I expected too much from the flash player. I did think that some of the video games were set up in flash but have since heard different. I thought that the was a thread a few weeks back from some NZ'er who recommended various games that were FLASH orinient but can't find it now.
Thanks for your response. Haven't found any real answers on the Flash website.

THere should be an update version of Flash player in Sony support (or even newer version from UX or TH). Try to d/l it...
Of course, some flash files are not work in CLIE.

I use my NZ flash player to play Flash (SWF) cartoons, and games.
using a PC, any SWF file you view on a website is stored in your computers "temporary internet files".
So, go to a site that has Flash cartoons, most cartoon sites have lot's of Flash content. Play a cartoon on that site, let it load completely... the SWF file will be stored in your temporary file of your PC. (you can't download the file from the site, it is embedded and protected from download).
Retrieve the SWF from your temporary folder on your PC, and drag that file to your Clie's "MMFlash" folder. It should play great!
go to www.homestarrunner.com for some great cartoons.

Hey Eric,
I knew someone would be able to help. That website site was the prefect testing ground. I play Turkey cartoon all the way through and took me a while to track down my temp internet files. I use CompuServe so it wasn't easy to track down. I was able to go under the perferences screen while log'd on. Then viewed the file and Alpha sorted looking for shockwave flash object. Tracked down the web ext. and the program name.
Do you have any other websites to use? I would love to try some games.
The program I was testing was old cartoon from Romp.com. It was those old BILL & TED videos w/ Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy (FUNNY AS H--L!!). It uses MacroMedia flash but list it as a application under the folder view. Plays fine on all computers. Is there a way to find the file after it plays on the screen like what we did with the temp internet files?
Thanks for all the HELP!!

sorry, but this just not true concerning swf files for flashplayer!
as Eric stated just copy those swf files stored in temporary files of your browser onto your MS in MMflash directory and it will work just fine with a few
exceptions...
Works fine on my NZ even wo updated FlashPlayer!

Hey Eric & Chemman,
That Lord of the Rings was pretty FUNNY but it was soo big, I couldn't play on my clie... how did you do it??? Plus, is there a way to view the other vidoes without having to open each with the next or previous link. I can't seem to get to the homepage by the link on the top of the page. Any help would be GREAT!!!
Thanks again for the responses to my posts,

Hi guys, hope it's not too late to answer.
If you guys realise that Flash Player in NZ and otehr series is version 5.0. This means that clie cannot play flash files developed using Flash MX and above as some of the properties and functions has not been supportted by Flash Player 5.
But i believe most of flash contents in form of cartoon and stuff like that doesnt require a lot of ActionScripting (programming language in Flash), thus it can be viewable by clie.
As for games, all games require logic calculation to make its work and this means that it require heavy AvtionScript. Different version of Flash Player supports different limit of functions. That would explain why sometimes u cannot play your flash games on clie but work perfectly well on PC. It's all about the Flash Player Version.
To date, Macromedia has released Flash Player 7 but it not yet available for mobile device. I really hope that there will make it available on Palm platform as Pocket PC user already enjoy Version 6 on their gadget.
Hope this would help ;)

Hi, I'm mew here and not registered. I just bought myself an NZ90 with a 128 meg mem stick and 3 batteries fro 325 off my dad, he got all that same stuff for 300 on ebay a few months ago, but he didn't like it so he went and got a TJ37. Oh well thats off subject. My question is, when you are playing you Homestar Runner Cartons, are you getting any audio, I've tried several and had no audio. Also, according to macromedias site, if the app or cartoon as mp3 sound it won't work on the Clie, the don't why since they play mp3s as is. So if any one knows how to get the audio to work on flash movies, let me know.

There's a Flash update that you need to find on teh Sony Clie support site and load it. Then you'll have sound with your Flash...

thank you I didn't know if that fixed that or not. I'm installing that right now. Now if only they can update the Player itself to 7 so I can play Trogdor on my NZ90.

I don't want to mess in your family biz man, but do you mean to say that your Daddy actually sold you his NZ90 for a profit?
That sounds a little bit to capitalistic for me man ... :-)

I downloaded the update, I have the .swf files on the MMFlash folder on my memory stick and I still am getting nothing. When I open the flash icon on my NZ it recognizes the files, I get the icons but when I tap them it gies me the screen to play but nothing happens. I hope I am just an idiot and there is some magic setting I need to change. Anyone have some advice? I really appreciate it as I pretty much use my NZ as a desktop replacment and I think playing some homestar would be awesome!
thanks again
