I use the free version of palm reader (I guess its now called ereader) and I've used this reader ever since the original peanut press. I just recently downloaded the newest version for my TG50. What I got was a trial version of the Pro software which reverts to the free version in 10 days. Is the pro worth the $19.95 price? I don't do anything fancy with it -- just read ebooks.
If you want font control then I'd say yes - a big one for me was being able to get rid of the horrible default sony thin fonts and replace them with a nice readable alternative.
Can't think of any other major differences off the top of my head ....

If you order a book from PDM for your first time, don't you get eReader pro for free?

Here is some more information on eReader Pro. I think the dictionary and font smoothing are the only major features on the Pro version.

In addition, if fonts is your concern, you can spend the money on Fonts4OS5 that will improve the fonts in all your applications. Check it out...

I can't remember, but I think you can only change the text/background colors in the Pro version.

One of the other features that is in the Pro version is the ability to at least copy a screen of text as a quote to the clipboard.

I agree, 50% off makes this an even BETTER deal! GET IT!

I have always used the Pro version, and I love it. I too have been using it since it was peanut press.

I bought Palm Reader Pro when it first came out and it was $10. I think it was over two years ago.
The font support is worth it on higher resolution devices since Palm refuses to include a system font beyond the original smal, small bold, large, large bold. Sony did a good job with their fonts, however, Handera did even better. Their eight choices were the best and have been emulated by some major applications. I did a review last year of the differences between fonts on different resolutions. I will see if I can dig that up.
Oh, and font smoothing sucks. I have never liked font smoothing on any application that supported it. It is more like font blurring to me.
The dictionary is pretty good on eReader Pro also. I got the Webster's 11th w/thesaurus on deal a few weeks back. My only complaint is that the reference part doesn't support full screen on my T3. I got rid of Proporta's dictionary program after getting it.
I think the eReader Pro is worth the price and it is an even better deal now. I would get it with the Agfa MonoType fontpack and whatever dictionary deal they are offering if you can afford it.

Me too, even with extra large fonts. Why did they even include that option anyway?

I've had Pro since it came out. Changing fonts and colors is well worth $10. I've gotten use to the font smoothing, but agree I could live with out it.

I was told that eReader and Mobipocket allows font customisation without FontHack123. I found that the freeware version of Mobipocket reader allows that but I wasn't so sure abt eReader freeware version because I couldn't change the font settings. Now you guys just confirm the case. Thanx. I think I will just stick to Mobipocket and WordSmith. But the 50% off was really tempting. ;)

Right now with the $9.95 deal, you can't beat it.
The Free version works just fine too, the Pro just has some more bells and whistles. I know several people that use the Free version and are happy with it.

At the above link you can get eReader Pro for $9.95, plus several free books, and a dictionary. Well worth the price.

Thanks to all your good comments and the special $9.95 price I've decided to purchase the Pro version. What with the free books and dictionary it seems a pretty good deal.

Ironic, but this has the best list of links to fonts I've seen anywhere. Anything that worked with FontHack will be visible in eReaderPro's font list.
Between that and the ability to look things up in the dictionary I think eReaderPro is well worth the whole price. Definitely a must have on sale if you're into eBooks.

You can turn the font smoothing off. Some fonts seem to look better with it, some without.

It speeds up the page turning to turn it off, but I have gotten use to having it on. I agree, how well it looks depends on the font.

I just bought the discounted Pro version - do I need to uninstall the free version of PalmReader before installing eReader? My assumption is yes, but their FAQ's don't say.

Nope. Just install the latest version. The Pro and FREE versions are one in the same. Just feed it your key in the registration screen and you are good to go.

What are the free books that are currently included with a Pro purchase? I saw the list before, but now I can't find it on their site...
