View Full Version : Cannot change skins with my Audio Player

I followed the instructions in the Clie manual but I keep getting
the original skin. When used the MS Gate tool (as described in the
manual) I found two AudioSkin files but could delete only one.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm writing from memory, but from what I recall the trick was to sync only one skin at a time. I think this is what worked for me.

That is what I'm doing :-(
I install ONE skin but keep getting the original one :-(
Twice, I tried to sync two at a time, but only got the second - without any trace of the first. I am guessing that the last one you sync overwrites the previous. If this is actually the case, the one you are trying to sync should normally replace the original skin. So, I'd suggest you to check if you are actually copying the new one to the same destination as the old one.

What do you mean when you say “same destination as the old one...”?
Is there a special destination I need to sync the file to?
P.s., I'm only syncing one file but when listing the files (using FileZ) I can see two AudioPlayerSkin files. One is probably the one I synced and the other is a ROM file that cannot be deleted!

If my memory serves me correctly, you will have to use something like JackFlash to get the original audio player skin moved from ROM to RAM, then you can move it from RAM to a MS or your harddrive (so you won't lose it).
Then you should be able to hotsync the new skin you are trying to use.
Hope this helps.

What I meant was this:
When I sync the skin and go to MS Gate, I see that it is automatically filed under the AudioPlayer folder as "AudioPlayerSkin". If I then sync another skin, this goes into the same folder and replaces the old one, so that there is still only one AudioPlayerSkin file. I was thinking that maybe you may have moved the original file someplace else, or renamed it and that may be the reason why the new file cannot find and overwrite it and you end up with the original skin. Just a thought...

Yes. In MS gate I see only one skin file but with FileZ I see two the one I just synced and the one in the ROM which I cannot touch.
As for removing the skin using JackFlash, I don't think it worth the trouble and risk (not to say the cost) and it looks a bit strange that this is how Sony intended it should work 8-{.
10x for all your help :-)

I think you have to delete with FileZ the audioplayerskin file that is in ram, then copy your new skin from a memorystick. It should be OK
IT WORKED WITH ME!

Well, I am not sure that SONY intended anyone to be able to change skins on anything. That is why other people have written utilities to change your Grafitti and Status Bar skins.
I agree that SONY should have done more to allow us to customize or CLIE's, but they didn't.

I get your point and it seems that I will have to keep the original skin :-(
