Hi!

I'm new to this pda stuff but I just recently aquired a new SJ30 (i know its old and outdated now) but I was able to get it new for $60 canadian. I donno if thats a good deal or not but im pretty happy with it.

Anyway I have been playing around with getting movie clips on the pda and I'am having the exact same problem with that clicking sound. Even though the speaker is very faint I can still make out some of the poor audio in the voices, but there is a rythmic clicking sound in the background.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I also did a search for clieAudio to only find out its only supported by palmos5 which leaves us SJ30 users out of luck. Is there any fixes or other things I can try to get rid of this clicking sound?

Also one quick question, I purchased that sony audio adapter(PEGA-SA10?), would I be able to hear the video's sound in "the way it was encoded" type of sound quality or will it remain pretty poor like the built in speaker- and its far fetched but would anyone know if it by any chance eliminates that clicking sound?

Thanks in advance

Ed

PS: using kinoma player 2 and producer 2.0 (i think) Videos show fine but the audio is the problem

Kinoma Player support audio adapter (according to Kinoma's FAQ). You can use CLIE Audio when encoding in Kinoma Producer, for much better audio during playback.

CLIE Audio is for both OS4 and OS5 CLIEs (w/ MP3 playback support). But OS4 and OS5 CLIEs' CLIE Audio are different. Kinoma only supports OS4 CLIE Audio.

But in Kinoma 2.2, it supports hifi audio (ADPCM), can play very good audio quality.

Thats kind of confusing, what exactly is Clie Audio for OS4 and where would I be able to get it? Because whatever I try now I still get that clicking noise in the background.

Also would that sony audio adapter (PEGA-SA10) stop the clicking noise? Or would it still be there even if I was listening to it with headphones?

Pls pay attention on my previous post. I said Kinoma supports CLIE Audio only in OS4 CLIE (w/ MP3 playback support). Your SJ30 can't play MP3, how can it use CLIE Audio?

The sound problems mostly related to which audio codec you're using. Before you buy audio adapter, try to use ADPCM (only in Kinoma Producer 2.2+). It should be able to play w/ much better audio quality.

Its already using the ADPCM right now. I think thats why its doing the clicking sound to begin with.. It would be great if someone had an SJ30 and could confirm this. I dont want to fork out the money for an audio adapter to find out it has the same problem.

I can answer this.

The Audio does click on the SJ30, no matter what you try. And it gets worse if you use something like FastCPU to overclock the SJ30.

However....

If you get the Audio Adapter (PEGA-SA10) then you get nice lovely Stereo Sound through Headphones, without clicking. There is a catch though. You will need to re-make any movies you've got, as Kinoma only supports one Audio Format at a time. Instead of using the ADPCM option, pick the Clie Audio format. It's the right one for the Audio Adapter, as well as other OS4 Clies (well, the T Series at least).

You might need to play with the video settings and Clie Audio bitrates to get something that works nice on the SJ30 though. Off the top of my head, for decent quality picture and sound, 400bps video (at 12fps) with the max setting on sound seems to be the working limit. Thats for 320x160 video (roughly widescreen). It's quite watchable though.

Again, a note on overclocking. Since the SJ30 has to stay in sync with the Audio Adapter, you cannot be overclocked when you run Kinoma whilst using the PEGA-SA10. It just gets into a whole world of pain.

Hope this helps!

THat helps a lot. Thank you so much - you answered everything i needed to know. It looks like I'll have to get that audio adapter if i want it to be watchable, because right now i can barely hear it and the clicking sound is driving me nuts.

I donno if they still have it but apparently its selling for $49 on the sony website... is that a good price for it or can i do better?

Crud, I just tried to get it, and it says currently unavailable... :(

It looks like I was a day too late or something. And I highly doubt they will have more in stock. :(
