I am trying to install one of those fancy skins...But- it requires that i first install PICTUREGEAR onto my nx....however, I have a jap-clie, and that free software was never included on my install CD.

Anyone kind enough to email it to me?

The file you have is not a skin, it's a picture of the skin. I can't figure hos to make demo versions of skins, so I choose to make a preview pic. To see it on your NX, use CLIE Viewer.

It depends on wether you choose to stick to one skin, or to swap between multiple skin files on a daily basis. And if you can use FileZ and know how to warm reset. (I can help you for that). Basically, you'll need to warm reset and use FileZ when you want to uninstall a skin. When you install, a soft reset will do.

Personally, I am using photoskin (www.raysolutions.com) to manage my skins, because it supports Graffiti and Status. It's shareware. (10$?)

also if possible, if i can buy it direct from japan and pay in yen (i live in tokyo) that is much better...because my wife does not let me use credit-card

:D check visavis.handango.com, and search the skin you want, but I'm afraid you'll have to convince your wife to let you use your credit card...

BTW, I'm a gaijin, too. A different species, maybe.

don't panic. Handango doesn't have a NR/NX category , only 'Sony CLIE' and the file is the same. after unzipping, you should find two folders one labelled 'NR' and one 'NX'. try to guess which is which. ;)

Yes, Hotsync the 3 files, and soft reset. for clieLauncher, shortcut(/) then R on the graffiti area, and then choose the skin from the pop-up menu

In this thread I refer repeatedly to the use of FileZ. Please verify that you are using the latest version (5.22- available here (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=9992))

older versions of FileZ have problems with the Version ID item that can disable the skins (the version ID must be at least 100 for a skin to be enabled-the older versions of FileZ would modify the version ID to 0 when you change the type, creator, and all the authorization bits)

My previous skin was the Panthere and the yellowGlass...

On the other hand i you need it for beta testing i use a french NX70V now.

just re-dowload it from handango with your receipt, the NX skins are in the package (though yellowglass is not updated yet)

Question on removing the skins. Can you use McFile or do you need FileZ? Can you give step by step instructions? I did a warm reset and used filez but was unable to locate the skins in filez.

what skin are you talking about?

To delete a skin file:

1-in the prefs of the CLIE, you assign Filez to one of your hard buttons
2-warm reset: push and maintain the 'up' button, and reset.
3-if your warm reset worked, the graffiti/status area should appear completely white. If it's not the case, you have to come back to step 2-
4-push the FileZ hard button, and delete the skins you don't want, then soft reset

if you have multiple skin files,:
1- to 3- are the same
4-push the FileZ hard button, and change the Type or Creator of the skin you want to disable. :
for example=
Graffiti : sknG/SkAi
Status : ssts/SkSb
just change to lowercase the first letter of the Type of the skins youwant to disable: (That's exactly what Photoskin is doing when 'installing' skins)

I'm sorry you are not satisfied with handango. I had 2-3 refunds when In the first month of my skinshop activity, I can assure you I didn't got the money ;)

As for the customer support, except money issues, which are handango problem, you can e-mail me and I'll answer you in less than 12 hrs.

and for your question about us skins on japanese CLIEs, you can install and use them, but when you tap the buttons, they become offset.
The best solution would be either to make a SIlk Plug-in emulating the US graffiti and making use of the Us graffiti skins, or recompile an US skin with a japanese layout.

no, it's just a hunch from the japanese users manual. it says 'you can add functionalities to clie launcher'...

and there's too much DATA resource for a classic skin.

let me see if this is right-it's using in this order:

index-0 to 4
normal-hex 0 to 255
selected-hex 0 to 255
(all based on a stored palette?)

right? i used that when updating the roses one i did and now the bar colors are shades of purple. i also figured how to disable/enable each section of the skin and icons. not much use there except it would be nice to add that 3rd icon and map it to something, maybe clie files. and maybe turning off the white so a bacground under the program icons could be seen.

the palette is the standard Palm Palette. you can have a look at it (and the hex adresses) in quartus resEdit for example...

and botomarrow will be just below the 6 icons on left. im making notes of whats what so maybe an active skin builder could be made.

that works in (small) with graffiti up.

yep that is exactly it, i just tested it. the layout is slightly different yet. i have found movement of eveything except the container for the catagories (i can move the catagories) and the container for the program icons. if those two can be found some really interesting skins could be made.

(how about having the catagories along the top left to right like tabs?)

the main point with CLIELauncher is the fact that you can search your apps with the jog only. It's something that no other launcher can do, except Rondo on OS4.x

as for the battery indicator... if you think about it, its logical... ;) external circle is divided in 4, the internal in 3 : 4x3=12 levels. when the four external divisions have darkened, one internal divison darkens, and so on... well, ahem, a bit complex... :-/ remember that green is ok, orange is medium and red is no good...

if it really bothers you and other people, I'll make it simpler.

I would like to have enough time to make all the VG and CL skins I'd like to, and if I start making ZLauncher skins, I'll be asked for ML, YShow , LauncherX, Facer, etc., it'll take 2 months to make a skin set...and I have no easy tools on Mac OS to work with.

When you add the fact that the third-party launcher users are only a fraction of the CLIE users (The Maikah YiShow skin I made was not a success), I don't feel compelled to take the step. I prefer to stick to the software that is on the CLIE when you buy it.

karim, just bought panthere and icewind. bit expensive (for a skin IMHO) but truly beautiful. one question though: as i am not sure whether i will stick with clielauncher or use zlauncher instead (just have my nx since a couple of days) i would like to ask whether it would be OK to use graphics from your panthere skin for making a zlauncher version and to even post that skin afterwards.

I don't think you'll find the graphics you'll need to make a ZLauncher skin in my skins. they are too different. But if you do and decide to post them, I'd like to see it before you post it...

I just got the icewind. I really appreciate the quality of the work. I too would like a grey friendly verison. I notice that in the sunlight the darker colors work better for the skin's visibility. I bought the Panzer and the Cutout a while back and like using the cutout because it shows better contrast in sunlight. I really like the new one but would love a darker color for use in daylight. Just a thought. Love your work. Keep up the new skins we will support you.

Karim can you make a colorize theme to mach ice wind.Colorize is an app wich lets you chane colour of all the "windows" that everythig appers in .The latesd version lets you import export themes to clie memo in 8 or 16 bit .Just wonderd if it was possibleot put an exta file in the download from handango

Hi MyhtoFactory,

I bought the Maikah skin, but I did not install the graffiti right way. I am trying to install it now, but during HotSync I got an error message saying something like: "Error launching application". I did a reset but when powering up again it gave the same message. I had to do a warm reset and erase the graffiti skin, and after that the Clie was fine.
Any ideas? Do I have a corrupt file?

I can´t do it either thru the Memory Stick. Funny thing, when I look at the Creator attribute of the file, instead of showing SkAi (which is the one supposed to be) it is showing xxxx.

But now I have another problem for you: the keyboard button to access the virtual graffiti keyboard is not working. When I press it I see it change color, but it does nothing.

I tried the other skins that I have and the system one, and the button in those is working fine.

It doesn´t block the keyboard. I just can´t access it from your skin; when I click on the keyboard icon on the bottom right side of the skin, nothing happens. But it works with all the other skins that I have.

I dont see any code in a graffiti skin that would affect the keyboard.

that's what I thought too, and my skins work on my machine. I'm :confused:

OK, I found the culprit. I am running the SilkletMgr app; if I choose the SilkletMgr silk plug-in for showing date book items in top of the skin, then the button does not work; and that is the same for all skins, not only the Maikah. Sorry for bugging you about it.
