I received a Palm Zire 71 from my husband as a present a few months ago. It is my first PDA, and I still have a lot to learn, but what I would like to know is, what are the capabilities for using my PDA to connect to the Internet, and most specifically to AOL. What do I have buy? How do I set this up?

Thanks in advance!

21 people viewed this thread and not one of you could bother to lend some advice? Interesting considering how many of you listed BIBLE applications as your favorite palm apps, and yet that is not very Christian.

Maybe they couldn't help you. There is no point posting useless information.

To connect to the internet I believe you'd have to have a GPRS Bluetooth Phone and connect, via Bluetooth, to the internet through that. That's the setup I'm planning. Not sure about the AOL though.

If your talking getting on the internet wirelessly, then the above menthioned method is about your only choice. If your like me and want to connect it too the internet through you computer, just because you can, then you need to establish a PPP conection through your USB cable. If it connects through a serial prot than you just need to go into Prefs then network, and make sure it is set to PPP. If it is a USB cable like mine you will need a program call Softick PPP www.softick.com/ppp

First of all, the Z71 is NOT BLUETOOTH capable. Your options would be a phone with an infared port (sucks down the battery fast on both devices!) or a direct cable. Good luck finding the cable

Hi Whateverinny,

If you want to use Zire 71 to use with AOL try this:
http://palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=65E59221-7E95-2C3D-7BED46ABE0B6C2DB&PartnerREF=&prodID=53697

But as others have said, the Zire 71 doesn't have any wireless abilities if you did want to use it out-and-about. Since you didn't say wireless I'm not sure if that was what you meant. If you did want to go wireless you could use a cable to connect with your cell phone: http://thesupplynet.com/

If you wanted to use WiFi at your local Starbucks or McDonald's or wherever you could get a enfora wifi case: http://www.mobileplanet.com/find.asp?

There is a pseudo internet solution as well from AvantGo, iSilo, or Plucker. A keyword search on www.palmgear.com will find them. These solutions actually use your computer's hotsync connection to go on the web and retrieve the latest info from your favorite websites, sorry no AOL but Yahoo offers a mobile site for these retriever services.

I hope this helps get you started and welcome to the community. Sorry it took a while to get some responses, 1source is a little overwhelming since it merged. I don't visit near as much as when they were seperate, I'm not sure but I think my little three month old girl might also be part of the reason I haven't been on the web as much. ;)

One last thing, I hope you don't judge The Book by it's readers. As a christian, I'll be the first to admit we're not perfect, we just realize we need God because we aren't perfect and need his forgiveness and love through Jesus. As Biddlesby said maybe people looking at your thread didn't know the answer to your question. I'm not trying to preach, you brought it up so I just wanted to respond and I sincerely hope that you come to know how much He loves you.

Good luck and enjoy your new Palm. :D

Thank you!

Yes, I meant that I want to go wireless.

I realized that there is AOL software, but I also realize that I needed some sort of modem and that is where I didn't understand how the technology works.

I already access the web and my AOL account via my cell phone, but typing text on a cell phone is painful!

Oh sorry about that. For some reason I had got it into my head you were talking about Zire 72.

You can use your phone as the modem source with a connection cable from
